Chocolate selection-surprisingly contentious

lookatallthosechickens · 14/08/2020 21:01

This has been an argument throughout a 15 year marriage. Selection box of chocolates (in this case, Celebrations) exists in our home. I, a reasonable person, take the ones I like and leave the awful ones to languish until someone finally eats them out of desperation. Husband insists that I am selfish and rude and that one must select blindly and allow fate to decide whether you get to enjoy a lovely Snickers or ruin your entire night with a Bounty.

Yes- blind selection
No- maltesers and snickers first

Have children and train them to like the horrible ones

This. We have a bounty eater but better than that, we have 2 out of 3 dc who eat salt and vinegar crisps first which is a definite win.

Glamazoni · 14/08/2020 21:57

I eat the ones I like. The rest often end up being given away or put in the bin! My neighbour is thrilled when I give her a whole box of all the leftover Bounty bars after Christmas.

TinyTornado · 14/08/2020 21:59

@MrsGrindah

You are wrong for describing Celebrations as chocolates. Chocolates come in a heart shaped box with a ribbon attached. Then you eat the ones you like the least FIRST , leaving all your favourites till last. And the best ones have a double layer so you can do it all over again.
What kind of ‘fruit’n’job’ would do this? Absolute lunacy! With Chocs it’s get the best ones and stuff them down before some other swine eats them first. Either that or you live in a very civilised house where no one pinches your chocolate!
AnotherEmma · 14/08/2020 21:59

I think there should be some kind of dating app that matches people up based on their chocolate preference compatibility.

For example, I could definitely live with you @DeeTractor because my favourite is maltesers followed by galaxy and mars, and I don't like bounty or snickers.

Now if I could find someone who also hates purple Roses (Brazil in caramel) I'd be sorted.

Lozz22 · 14/08/2020 22:00

I like all celebrations chocolates. Don't like the strawberry cream ones in roses though but I like the purple one in quality streets. I very kindly swapped the strawberry cream ones out of mine for my exH purple ones whilst he was at work. Might have also stuffed a few green triangles into mine at the same time 😅

sleepyhead · 14/08/2020 22:03

Both ways work for me. I like them all, but my favourites are the bounties & snickers that end up getting left anyway.

My favourite Revel is the coffee one.

YummyInMyTummy · 14/08/2020 22:05

Definitely pick the ones you want. Bounty and Snickers are disgusting and should be left to rot at the bottom.

Moltenpink · 14/08/2020 22:05

Back in my day, chocolates came in two layers. The top layer had to be cleared before the bottom could be opened. Sometimes finally someone would force down the dreaded coffee, only to reveal that the second layer had already been breached! The unwanted second layer chocolates would be left to go white but never binned.

MrsGrindah · 14/08/2020 22:10

@TinyTornado Are you referring to sharing chocolates? I’ve heard of that before but not sure what it is.

Wingingitsince2018 · 14/08/2020 22:11

Definitely pick out the good ones, that doesn't make you a bad person.

Putting the wrapper BACK IN THE TUB so I think there are loads left, only to scrabble around and find yet another god damn strawberry cream however, makes you a monster.

Darker · 14/08/2020 22:13

Sick to Lindt

AnotherEmma · 14/08/2020 22:17

Putting the empty wrapper BACK IN?!
Anyone who does that deserves to be shot.

ODFOx · 14/08/2020 22:27

Offered one out of a tin at someone else's house? Say thank you and take the one off the top. (With your DH on that)
In your own house with your own tub? Eat the ones you like best. (So you are both right in different circumstances).

I don't like the Maltesers and I'd never, ever go for a purple monstrosity.

We'd have to compromise over the Galaxy's but I'll take all the Bounty's and Snickers.

gobbynorthernbird · 14/08/2020 22:32

@EuphegeniaDoubtfire

When I go to my ostentatious house, I nick all the green triangles before my dad gets to them.

You snooze; you lose, pal.

I really hope that isn't a typo and you do have an ostentatious house
AnotherEmma · 14/08/2020 22:32

@EuphegeniaDoubtfire
Definitely compatible enough to consider a date Grin

MoggyMittens23 · 14/08/2020 22:35

@Glamazoni you just chuck perfectly good chocolate in the bin?

UnfinishedSymphon · 14/08/2020 22:38

Bounties are the best!

DappledThings · 14/08/2020 22:41

Bounties are the best ones. Snickers and Mars are the worst. They are always the ones to be left till last at home or at work

CoRhona · 14/08/2020 22:49

...enjoy a lovely Snickers or ruin your entire night with a Bounty.

YABU. Snickers are revolting, Bounty bars are lovely!

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/08/2020 22:53

I don't like any of them, so in my house you can have the whole tub.
You'd better not touch my cheese though Grin

Glamazoni · 14/08/2020 23:08

Glamazoni you just chuck perfectly good chocolate in the bin?
No, just the coconut ones.

Youcunnyfunt · 14/08/2020 23:27

OMG. My boyfriend suggested I was evil for picking the best sweets last night. He also suggested that I should "have my fair share of bad ones". Shock

WHY WOULD I DELIBERATELY EAT BAD SWEETS?!

Skyliner001 · 14/08/2020 23:32

No

Sholmit · 14/08/2020 23:50

The orange ‘Quality Street’ always go in the bin.
