Chocolate selection-surprisingly contentious

lookatallthosechickens · 14/08/2020 21:01

This has been an argument throughout a 15 year marriage. Selection box of chocolates (in this case, Celebrations) exists in our home. I, a reasonable person, take the ones I like and leave the awful ones to languish until someone finally eats them out of desperation. Husband insists that I am selfish and rude and that one must select blindly and allow fate to decide whether you get to enjoy a lovely Snickers or ruin your entire night with a Bounty.

Yes- blind selection
No- maltesers and snickers first

Never pick your favourites first! In my world, the bounties are always left, which is great because they're my favourites and no one else's. Therefore, I get to eat as many as everyone else, until left with the bounties, then no one wants them - except me! Grin

Staffy1 · 14/08/2020 21:16

I would have voted YANBU but YABU about your rating of snickers and bounties.

Poshjock · 14/08/2020 21:17

Shock what kind of a mad man have you married?! Only a crazy person would throw away the map.

Raella50 · 14/08/2020 21:18

YABU to buy Celebrations. Roses are the way! Grin

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 14/08/2020 21:18

Sweet jesus, I've just read your update Shock. The man is a monster.

Mummadeeze · 14/08/2020 21:19

I would be picking out the Bounties to eat first because I love them. Surely it balances out with personal taste!

Whatsissname · 14/08/2020 21:21

@TestingTestingWonTooFree

If I was a bad person I would tactically eat the ones we all liked first leaving the ones that I like and DH hates to the end.
This. Does that make me a bad person? Grin

If your partner insists on a 'blind selection' I suggest you shove a handful of drawing pins in the tin. They may reconsider their approach after a couple of 'bad picks'. Wink

Ohtherewearethen · 14/08/2020 21:34

Argh, I didn't know how to vote. On one hand, I am definitely guilty of diving in for the Maltesers first but ultimately, deep down, I think I know that's wrong and that lucky dip is fairer on everyone.
As for throwing away the menu from an unknown box of luxury chocolates, that is crazy. In my experience they always try to make the shittest ones look the best. I've been stung too many times by an attractive looking coffee cream to go bareback into a box of chocolates now.

AnotherEmma · 14/08/2020 21:38

@toomanyplants

What kind of maniac thinks blind selection is a good idea? Good lord LTB immediately. Take the chocs with you.

lookatallthosechickens · 14/08/2020 21:41

@Ohtherewearethen “bareback” lol!

I still suspect he memorised the flavour guide and then wanted to throw it away so he could get the pralines and caramels while I ended up with fruit creams. Absolute hypocrite 😹

TheSoapyFrog · 14/08/2020 21:44

Yep Maltesers and Snickers first. Kids have the milky ways. Bounties are the last ones to go.

AnotherEmma · 14/08/2020 21:44

OP I take it your husband is a fan of Revels?

I'd buy him those and keep the celebrations to myself

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 21:45

I've never known the phrase LTB more fitting for a thread

Madness

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 14/08/2020 21:45

When I go to my ostentatious house, I nick all the green triangles before my dad gets to them.

You snooze; you lose, pal.

Sweeptheleg · 14/08/2020 21:47

YABU cause snickers is always left last in my box (of celebrations that is) along with mars.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 14/08/2020 21:47

Have children and train them to like the horrible ones. We have a bounty eater and a Milky Way eater in our house.
They’re even better with the miniature heroes. One likes the creme egg ones and the other likes the fudge. Eclairs get saved and sent to FIL.
If we have a third child, they’ll be trained to have the Mars and but I’m too concerned for their teeth to push eclairs.

jerometheturnipking · 14/08/2020 21:47

If I wanted blind selection I’d buy a bag of Revels.

Although YABU because Bounties are amazing.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/08/2020 21:49

Celebrations are known as "Commiserations" in this household, as there are so few good ones.

netflixismysidehustle · 14/08/2020 21:50

Milky Way and Maltesers are top dog here.

Bounty and Mars are the ones always left over.

Jaxhog · 14/08/2020 21:52

If I was a bad person I would tactically eat the ones we all liked first leaving the ones that I like and DH hates to the end.

I guess that makes me a bad person.

DarkMintChocolate · 14/08/2020 21:52

I would refuse to eat any, if I had to eat Bounties. I cannot stand the combination of chocolate and coconut!

I would just go out and buy a box of mini Green and Blacks for myself, while he got on with the Celebrations!

DeeTractor · 14/08/2020 21:55

Bounties are the best. Maltesers are the most overrated sweets on Earth and Mars bars are absolute shit.

I don't mind the snickers.
