Chocolate selection-surprisingly contentious

This has been an argument throughout a 15 year marriage. Selection box of chocolates (in this case, Celebrations) exists in our home. I, a reasonable person, take the ones I like and leave the awful ones to languish until someone finally eats them out of desperation. Husband insists that I am selfish and rude and that one must select blindly and allow fate to decide whether you get to enjoy a lovely Snickers or ruin your entire night with a Bounty.

Yes- blind selection
No- maltesers and snickers first

OP posts:

I'm happy to eat a large sized Bounty, but would ignore them in a box of chocs.
And I would happily eat a whole box of Maltesers, but would be disappointed to have them in amongst my Revels.
I'm weird HmmGrin

@toomanyplants

What kind of maniac thinks blind selection is a good idea? Good lord LTB immediately. Take the chocs with you.

But only the ones you like! 🍫

Happynow001 · 15/08/2020 05:46

@lookatallthosechickens

I should also add that he once suggested we THROW AWAY the flavour guide leaflet from a box of super fancy chocolate last Xmas so that every piece would be a surprise. Absolute monster.

Weirdo! 🤪

timeforawine · 15/08/2020 06:25

Yabu re snickers, urgh. Eat the malteasers/galaxy/mars/milky way. Leave the rest.

BusySittingDown · 15/08/2020 06:39

You are correct OP - everyone always eats their favourites first, your DH is a weirdo Wink.

Having said that, it's alright for me to say as I love them all. If it's sweet and covered in chocolate I'm not fussy. I'm quite happy to sit and eat all the bountys, strawberry creams and toffee pennies (ie. the ones that are always left).

DH and I do tend to fight over the green triangles in the Quality Street though so they're the ones to go first!

Also, how come there are only ever about 3 green triangles and about a bazillion strawberry creams in the box?

HeronLanyon · 15/08/2020 06:43

I want to say yes blind selection. It seems right.

I will say NO. I don’t want an orange cream or a strawberry anything or a fudge or toffee penny etc
etc etc.

I want what I want and if there isn’t something I want I’ll go without.

beautifulmonument · 15/08/2020 06:45

I'm sorry your husband is mad

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 15/08/2020 06:46

I’m with the OP on the snickers. I’m not sure my family are even aware there are Snickers in boxes of Celebrations cos I scoff them. Bounties..meh! coconut is all bitty and gets stuck in your teeth.

InfiniteSheldon · 15/08/2020 07:04

We have a tin each as neither of us doing sharing very well Hmm then we might swop or if I'm honest trade the leftovers. We also have his and hers crisps, snacks and most importantly wine. I'm thinking this may not be normal now I'm writing it down.

BusySittingDown · 15/08/2020 11:54

@InfiniteSheldon I like your style! A box each. Makes complete sense!

Lweji · 15/08/2020 11:56

LTB and find someone who prefers Bounty to Snickers.

Or mail your Bounty to me.

We do this, especially the wine because I am not fond of red wine and DH isn't that keen on white wine. I will drink red if that's all there is though
Spied · 15/08/2020 12:02

Pick your favs first. Obviously.
In our house the Snickers and Mars are always left at the bottom until someone ( usually me) eats them just to get rid.
Teasers always go first!

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 15/08/2020 12:05

Well I think that you may pick your favourites but ONLY by shaking the box to find them (assuming upright cardboard box rather than larger tin type). What you cannot do is empty the whole box on the table, take all your favourites and put the rest back in. That is CHEATING. (And I only do it if no one is looking).

FlySheMust · 15/08/2020 12:09

Send unto me your Bounties.

SquirrelFan · 15/08/2020 12:33

How did he choose you? Hmm

mmgirish · 15/08/2020 12:36

Blind selection! I think this man needs some kind of therapy. Throwing away the chocolate guide is one of the worst suggestions I've ever heard. LTB.

Soconfusedandlost · 15/08/2020 12:57

I agree with selection by choice. To really be controversial, put the chocolates in a tray of brownies just before putting in the oven. No one knows what they've hot till they bite the brownie

peony68 · 15/08/2020 13:05

Why are you even sharing the fact that you have a box of chocs with your husband ? These obviously need to be stowed away in your best hiding place and surreptisiously eaten when he's not looking , this completely erases the need to have a discussion about them !!! Don't forget a late night run to your wheelie bin to dispose of the evidence / wrappers !!!!

BaconsLaw · 15/08/2020 15:51

Entirely your fault, op.
