To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

My cleaner does it weekly. I try to do it every couple of days in between that but in reality I might manage to do it once.

We have a super shedding dog, two cats and three super messy children. And I have a chronic health condition. The two don't go together well, but life is what it is. The children are all healthy and happy and that's what matters.

Shesingsshangrila · 14/08/2020 20:30

Our cleaner does it once a week. And we run the Dyson cordless around the dining room/kitchen probably once a day to get the copious amount of food ds drops as he eats..

Hyperfish101 · 14/08/2020 20:33

Twice a week. Need to do more now I have a dog.

JunoJigglewick · 14/08/2020 20:34

I should probably Hoover more often - youngest DC incapable of eating without spreading crumbs in a large circumference around him. I generally vacuum a couple of times a week. DH might do it once a week in a very showoffy and performative way.

I a week the kitchen (wooden floor) most days.

Upstairs may be visited by the vacuum each month. Depends if I can face kicking the Lego and playmobil out the way.

Mummadeeze · 14/08/2020 20:34

Once a fortnight, when the cleaner comes.

dreamingmama · 14/08/2020 20:35

I live in a small apartment with 1 toddler. I vacuum every single day? Sometimes twice. I can't stand any bits on the floor, fluff or anything. And my hair fricking malts (wanna shave it off)

And frankly, if you have pets, and you're not vacuuming everyday and you have carpets, that's just fucking unhygienic

RiftGibbon · 14/08/2020 20:37

Once a week in well-used areas unless someone's coming over to stay.

dreamingmama · 14/08/2020 20:37

And we don't wear shoes in the flat either, that's a whole new issue in itself

Marmunia1975 · 14/08/2020 20:39

Four times a week. I like a spanking clean house. Bathrooms five times a week. I go through so many audiobooks when cleaning.

FippertyGibbett · 14/08/2020 20:40

Once a week right through, and the kitchen every day.

pinky987 · 14/08/2020 20:42

Either everyday or every other

PaundryLouder · 14/08/2020 20:42

Once a week.

megletthesecond · 14/08/2020 20:42

Try to do it once a week. No pets and a no shoe house. Mostly hard floors too.

cardibach · 14/08/2020 20:42

@AriesTheRam

Once or twice a day.Ive got a cordless dyson so its not any hassle I just whizz round.
I don’t understand this. It is hassle. You have to get it out. You have to ‘whizz round’ - it’s not a whizz. You go over every inch of your floor. You have to put it away. At some point you have to empty it. Do it if you want, it’s your house and your life, but don’t pretend it’s nothing.
angelfishrock · 14/08/2020 20:43

every other day. used to do it less often but since march the DC are at home and I am WFH. creates a lot more mess than in non Covid times

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 20:43

@cardibach

It takes less than 30 mins, its really not a hassle.

topcat2014 · 14/08/2020 20:45

Robot Hoover's people!

bengalcat · 14/08/2020 20:47

Weekly - have three animals .

pontiouspilates · 14/08/2020 20:47

Vacuum and mop every day. Thought that was standard.

cardibach · 14/08/2020 20:47

@Awkwarddough

Dyson V11, 1-2 times a day in the living room and kitchen. The rest of the house maybe once a fortnight 😫

Moving the toddlers toys and Hoovering the living room just makes everything feel so put together and it literally takes 2 minutes!

No, it doesn’t. Two minutes is nothing. You might (maybe) be able to put your child’s toys away in that time, if they aren't spread out too far and you have very good storage actually in your main room. Getting the hoover out takes time. Putting it away takes time. Emptying it takes time (not needed every time, I m ow, but sometimes). 10 mins maybe. It’s ok, do it if you want but I’m fed up with people suggesting these jobs take time amounts if time so that everyone who doesn’t do them multiple times a day must be lazy.

I have things I’d rather do with the 30 minutes for at least 13 days of 14.

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 20:48

For all those that love clean and have hard floors, I've recently purchased the Vax hoover and mop 2in1 and its AMAZING

userxx · 14/08/2020 20:48

@cardibach Cordless hoovers are easy. Literally 5 minutes and downstairs is done.

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 20:49

@cardibach

Then I guess it just comes down to priorities and everyone is different

ThisLittleLady · 14/08/2020 20:49

3 dogs and seven cats and you don’t hoover at least once a day?! That sound pretty gross actually. I have a dog and hoover at least once a day downstairs. He not allowed upstairs so they get done every second day normally. All that pet hair and dirt, and fluff, and dry dead skin, and anything they’ve brought in in their paws, what about crumbs in your kitchen? What about when you brush your hair?? You must lose a couple of hairs when you brush? Sorry. I find that quite horrible. Is there an extreme reason you can’t hoover every day??
