To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

I aim for once per week. I rarely actually do it though. But I'm a slattern!

theconstantinoplegardener · 14/08/2020 19:52

Gosh, only once a week here, and we have three long-haired children, a dog and a cat. The carpets really could do with being vacuumed twice a week though Blush

Shmithecat2 · 14/08/2020 19:55

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

It's a home, we live in it. We work, there is no housewife in residence justifying their existence with daily chores.

My house is a home too. One that I'm proud of and like to keep nice. I vacuumed every day when I worked full time too Hmm

Gomezzz · 14/08/2020 19:55

@clary

"You are not more virtuous because you have less dust on your floor."

That is very true. Equally you are not more worthy because you have more dust on your floor and you used the time to "read a book or write a letter" as that stupid rhyme says.

I hoover that often because I like my house to be clean (the other people in it are rather messy and hoard stuff so it will never be tidy). But if you don't feel like that, it's fine. Neither of us is better tho.

Yes that was my point. I actually quite like cleaning so I'm not trying to justify myself, but I'm not about judging others. I think beyond keeping things sanitary and safe is personal preference.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/08/2020 19:56

Is vacuuming the new towel washing?

year5teacher · 14/08/2020 19:58

Probably every day but not a full hoover of everywhere, just where it needs it - cat hair!! We also have a robot hoover that goes every other day.

@slatternissima

Have NC to tell the truth, which is that I Hoover when my parents visit. Which is once or twice a year. Other than that, I wait until the mood takes me, which it doesn't.
Not sure if you’re being serious or not, but six months to a year of dirt and dust can’t make for a very pleasant living environment.
GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 14/08/2020 20:09

Daily downstairs weekly upstairs. The damn Dalmatian sheds glitter constantly 😂

Chocolate1984 · 14/08/2020 20:09

I really don’t know how people get away with hoovering a couple of times a week. I hoover everyday, sometimes more than once. We always seems to have bits of something on the carpet. Right now I can see flakes of bark from a stick my daughter found earlier & crumbs.

Awkwarddough · 14/08/2020 20:10

Dyson V11, 1-2 times a day in the living room and kitchen. The rest of the house maybe once a fortnight 😫

Moving the toddlers toys and Hoovering the living room just makes everything feel so put together and it literally takes 2 minutes!

cherrybakewells3 · 14/08/2020 20:10

Who has the time to hoover 3 times a day! Their life must revolve around cleaning. Twice weekly sounds perfectly normal to me. DP hoovers thoroughly every Sunday but I pick up the cordless one for ease once or twice through the week mainly in kitchen/living room.

Oblomov20 · 14/08/2020 20:14

Once a week. You all sound like you have high anxiety that requires a GP consultation.

MrsJBaptiste · 14/08/2020 20:16

It’s usually a couple of weeks between hoovers, sometimes three

Feeling a bit lightheaded... 2 or 3 weeks? 😯

I do the whole house once a week but the downstairs most days. No little kids or pets but I hate bits on the floor!

I can see some of that stuff too. I get away with it by not caring of it stays there a bit longer!
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/08/2020 20:17

Probably once a fortnight unless guests are due. But then we have no resident children or pets any more.
For those odd bits on the carpet I have a brilliant old-fashioned carpet sweeper. I would call it my best buy in years - except that I didn’t buy it - I nabbed it from a friend who was going to chuck it out.

fascinated · 14/08/2020 20:18

Honestly, why not just lose outdoor shoes and save hoovering so often?

Shmithecat2 · 14/08/2020 20:22

Because it's not just about what indoor shoes bring in. Hair, skin cells, dust mites. I don't want those hanging around for days on end.

vanillandhoney · 14/08/2020 20:24

No outdoor shoes in this house. I still hoover twice a day because I have a dog (who doesn't wear shoes, obviously), three cats, plus DH and I work in outdoor jobs that means we often come home covered in dust, dog hair and dirt.

Plus I like living in a clean house. I don't like mess - it stresses me out.

ShopTattsyrup · 14/08/2020 20:24

Only got the living room downstairs so maybe once a week. Upstairs less so but it gets less thoroughfair so as far as I'm concerned doesn't need it ;) We do have a cat but she's not exorbitantly sheddy

Scissor · 14/08/2020 20:25

I will just say as the child of a twice a day hooverer from the 70's..it was a very stressful upbringing ..I have raised mine on much less and they are all now grown and healthy..I have a collection of hoovers that are where they need to be ..I only currently only like the Sebo.

PhilCornwall1 · 14/08/2020 20:27

Every day here for downstairs, could end up being twice sometimes, upstairs every other day. I do it before starting work, doesn't take that long.

xxxJess123xxx · 14/08/2020 20:29

Once a day
