To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

@dreamingmama

I live in a small apartment with 1 toddler. I vacuum every single day? Sometimes twice. I can't stand any bits on the floor, fluff or anything. And my hair fricking malts (wanna shave it off)

And frankly, if you have pets, and you're not vacuuming everyday and you have carpets, that's just fucking unhygienic

More unhygienic than the fur while it’s still on the pet? Why?
Dazzedandconfused · 14/08/2020 20:50

Probably about 2-3 times a week. It's just me and a long haired cat at home.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/08/2020 20:52

It is a bloody hassle.

I'd rather do something better with my time, and honestly, some dust and dog hair won't be the end of me.
@cardibach Cordless hoovers are easy. Literally 5 minutes and downstairs is done.
You still have to get it out, put it away, empty it...
I thin’ this time assessment witnessed in multiple hooverers is why everyone is late all the time. Estimates Of how long things take are wildly inaccurate.

Then I guess it just comes down to priorities and everyone is different
It does. Just those who prioritise cleaning seem to think the6 are morally superior and everyone else is filthy. Because your priority is having things spotless doesn’t mean everyone else’s house is a plague pit.

Deadringer · 14/08/2020 20:56

About every two weeks, sometimes less. I sweep downstairs most days though.

namechangetheworld · 14/08/2020 20:56

I hoover the living room and sweep the kitchen and hall once a day as I have two small children who leave a trail of food and random debris wherever they go. Upstairs, once a week-ish.

Shmithecat2 · 14/08/2020 20:59

@cardibach no one has said they're morally superior because they vacuum more. Some of those who vacuum less have been a bit sneery though, digs about needing to see a dr etc.

anyoldname76 · 14/08/2020 20:59

I hoover downstairs a couple of times a week, upstairs is once in a blue moon, I need a new hoover to be honest, our hoover is so heavy to take upstairs

MilerVino · 14/08/2020 21:03

Once a fortnight if you're lucky. Life's too short. It's just me in the house though. No pets or other humans.

Naticus · 14/08/2020 21:13

When I only had a cordless Dyson not very often, find it really frustrating to use.

Got a Shark about a month ago probably 2 or 3 times a week now, even though it's corded I just find it a lot easier for a start it actually seems to work .

You do t think all those ‘it takes seconds’ posts aren’t implying laziness and dirtiness in people who don’t do it multiple times a day?

What about if you have pets who don't go anywhere near the carpet? Is it still "fucking unhygienic"?
summerblues · 14/08/2020 21:23

I have 2 white indoor cats with litter trays. I have to hoover up the litter they kick out the tray 2-3 times a day. I hoover the hair off the floor and sofas daily aswell, hoover the rugs/carpets every couple of days. I have a cordless Shark so it's easy just to have a quick run around when needed.

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 21:29

@cardibach

You seem very sensitive about people's hoovering habits

I’m commenting on a thread. What do you think it’s for?

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 21:33

@cardibach

Well obviously it's for commenting, duh.

But you seem to be doing 2+2=5 a bit with peoples responses

userxx · 14/08/2020 21:33

You still have to get it out, put it away, empty it...

Eh? Open cupboard door, grab, put it back. That takes all of 6 seconds. I bought a cordless as I couldn't be arsed firing up the main hoover too often. I can't make excuses not to hoover as it's that's easy!

I don’t need excuses as I don’t feel it’s something to feel guilty about not doing...

Nope. Just giving my view and responding to the tone in some other posts.

thisstooshallpass · 14/08/2020 21:39

The ground floor everyday (kitchen and family room) I have two Labradors who shed and if I don't do it it gets tread all over the house. First and second floor once a week.

FedUpofLockdown123 · 14/08/2020 21:40

Why is it ok to shame people for liking having a clean home but not ok to shame someone for living in filth? It's like the Christmas threads where everyone ridicules anyone who buys more than a pair of socks for their child but you never, or rarely, see the opposite.

There is nothing at all abnormal about hoovering daily and does not require a doctor. If anyone should see a doctor it should be the people cleaning their floors once a year but that shouldn't be said should it?

BurtonHouse · 14/08/2020 21:42

I have no pets, grown up.kids who don't live here and a cleaner who comes here once a week, so if you want an honest answer it'd be about once every 3 months 😁

TheMumblesofMumbledom · 14/08/2020 21:44

Christ after reading further comments it would appear I'm an A class slattern 😂

We have a Dyson V11, it sits in the utility room but there's no way either me or him are getting that bastard out after being out of the house for 12hrs plus a day, that's commute and work.

There's nothing wrong with a drag and swipe of dog fur with a clog or flip flop.

Tunnocks34 · 14/08/2020 21:48

I do a shake and vac of the house every Saturday. And then I probably vacuum the living room rug every 2 days.

Cleaner vaccine the house top to bottom on a Wednesday
