Metal water bottles - worth it?

I’m looking on amazon and like the fact they keep cold drinks cold. However they seem to be about £20-£25 for the original ones which gets expensive when buying 3!! I’ve seen some for £10 ish too which is still a bit expensive for a water bottle but wondering if it would be as good as the more expensive ones? Can anyone recommend one to me? Are the cheaper ones just as good? Can you get them for less than £10 a bottle?

Oh yes they are brilliant! Your water stays chilled for ages and has no taste - even if it’s really warm. I just got mine from the supermarket when they were on special offer.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 13/08/2020 22:16

What kind of price was your supermarket one?

I have a Chilly's water bottle.

It was actually a gift Xmas 2018 which i requested.

I bought a 2nd one a couple of weeks later to leave on my desk at work and I've bought my nephew one to keep at my house as I was sick of mine disappearing every time he came round.

I love it, and was actually thinking only yesterday that it's the best £25 I've (well my friend) ever spent.

I got mine from TKMaxx, for about £7. Definitely worth it, so much nicer going out and having a cool drink rather than a warm one!

BrokenBrit · 13/08/2020 22:17

I got a half price Sho recently and it is amazing! Keeps water cold all day even if left in the car!

LadyCatStark · 13/08/2020 22:18

100% worth it. But you can get them in the supermarket for £5-£7 and they’re great.

Stamen196 · 13/08/2020 22:18

Has my Chilly's for 4 years and good as new - keeps my water amazingly cold and also hot if I want to put tea in it!

Mine are Morrison’s and Lidl, I think £7 and £3.99. Used them now over a year and I wouldn’t go back

Nottobesoldseparately · 13/08/2020 22:19

Oh, it's been accidently dropped, knocked over, rattled around the car, taken abroad etc etc and it's still like new.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 22:19

I think it was around £9.

Snorlax86 · 13/08/2020 22:20

I got a metal one from wowcher earlier this year and you could even get it personalised, I think for around £10. Wilkinson’s also had a metal one for less than £10 earlier this year.

dootball · 13/08/2020 22:20

They are also pretty much indestructible (depending on the lid type)

The were pretty cheap in Millets the other day (and some other camping shops too)

One thing to note though - it takes a lot longer to call the water down in the fridge!

ArthurShelbysTash · 13/08/2020 22:21

I have one that is a good few years old now. It is battered and dented but well used. I bought the kids cheaper versions from Wilko, I think they were £5. They are good but don't keep drinks cold for as long. Still good for what they cost though.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 22:21

Like this one (but on sale!). It’s small but light to carry...

Procrastination4 · 13/08/2020 22:21

I bought a S’well bottle in Vancouver five years ago. I still use it on a daily basis -actually bought a second one there a year later. They keep water cold for hours and hours-all day long, in fact-no matter how hot it is. So worth it.

Username7521 · 13/08/2020 22:22

I know it Sounds like a lot of money but they survive almost anything (my partner drove over a chilly bottle with our 2.5 ton car and it didn’t break)

Titterofwit · 13/08/2020 22:22

Im a cheapskate and bought 2 bottles last year. One was from wilkos - a rose gold one and a tropical patterned one from Boyes .

The wilkos one is less sturdy and has needed remedial attention to stick the top and bottom back on as there were separate pieces. But the drinks temperatures are the same in both. I like to have tepid water drinks so fill my bottle from the boiling water tap first thing each morning . I forgot to use the water in the bottle yesterday and this morning the water was still hotter than tepid .

I think they were about £5-£7 each.

TeenTraumaTrials · 13/08/2020 22:23

I got one from Aldi a few months ago (less than £5) and it is just as effective as DDs Chillys one.

LionLily · 13/08/2020 22:23

Tesco do a good one for £10, in a variety of colours. The lid comes off and it has quite a wide mouth so you can get some ice in, and you can also see the water level easily if you are diluting cordial etc. The lid is very secure, and shuts with a resounding click. Also has a little lock on the side. It doesn't taint.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/08/2020 22:24

Yes the cheap Amazon ones are absolutely fine, (for example they will hold fall fat milk cold all day, which reckon is a pretty good test)

The best ones are the thermos own branded ones. I picked one up for less than a tenner in a supermarket a couple of years back.

Better for the environment than plastic

MorganKitten · 13/08/2020 22:24

My £5 primark one is great

Skyliner001 · 13/08/2020 22:25

Yes, chillys are good

NannyR · 13/08/2020 22:26

Mine was £5 from Tesco and it's brilliant at keeping drinks icy cold - I filled it with ice and water last night (my bedroom was 28 degrees) and there was still ice in there at lunchtime today.

Nanalisa60 · 13/08/2020 22:27

Aldi have them!! I have a really expensive one that I got a few years ago when they first came out, but I also have one from Aldi, no difference, keeps my water cold all day.
