Metal water bottles - worth it?

I’m looking on amazon and like the fact they keep cold drinks cold. However they seem to be about £20-£25 for the original ones which gets expensive when buying 3!! I’ve seen some for £10 ish too which is still a bit expensive for a water bottle but wondering if it would be as good as the more expensive ones? Can anyone recommend one to me? Are the cheaper ones just as good? Can you get them for less than £10 a bottle?

I've got a chilly which I love. It's great quality, keeps drinks perfectly cooled.
DD had a £5 rose gold one from wilkos. Did the job but not so robust as mine and the rose gold coating quickly started to peel off around the lip.
She wants one from Typo for when she goes back to school in sept.
I put a jug of water in the fridge overnight and fill all the water bottles in the morning.

Wilko £5 ones for me too. They're great.

equuscaballus · 13/08/2020 23:21

I swear my chillys bottle is identical to my Aldi one - Both are fantastic. One is a fraction of the price!

I have about 14million water bottles (kids swear they are definatley lost but seem to appear after bedroom gut out or in bulk from from dad's house about every 6 months or so) I freeze them over night so water is cold for the most part of the day as it thaws. Tesco were selling the insulated ones for about £6-8 though but I'm to tight to buy more lol

I've got a 750ml one from Amazon this week, got fed up of drinking lukewarm water at night in bed. It's great, cost me £14 & has a wide enough opening to put ice cubes in, a flip up mouthpiece with a straw to the bottom of the bottle. I've been filling it with fizzy water & peppermint cordial, still been cold & fizzy next morning.

I also have a huge metal cup that's fab. Simple Modern brand again though I don't think they make them now. It holds 1L and I use it overnight/around the house as it's too big to fit in a car cup holder.

I’ve tried the link above but it didn’t work, sadly. I really love one of the chillys bottles but am going to go for a cheaper version. £25 on a water bottle seems insane to me. I can tell I’ve got old - I’m actually enjoying looking at all the different designs!

Chillys are amazing - we have several as a family. If you put chilled water in and some ice, hours later there is still some ice left.... plus they don’t leak.
I have never put a hot drink it but it believe they keep drinks hot for a good while too....

Whilst £25 is a lot think about how much it would cost to buy a new bottle of water in a shop every day, it adds up AND contributes to landfill.... the cost per use of a chillys is tiny- I have had one of mine for 6 years
SpringSunshineandTulips · 14/08/2020 11:17

I know but I need to buy 3. It’s just too much they do look good though. I don’t tend to buy bottles of water anyway as usually take a sistema bottle out with us but obv they don’t keep the water cold.

My kids have Honey Holly ones from Amazon, they were less than £10 and are great. They last a lot longer than the plastic ones and are better at keeping the drink cool and fresh.

LonelyFromCorona · 14/08/2020 11:19

Make sure they are double walled or they don't keep water cool for that long... (metal is a conductor after all)

Chanjer · 14/08/2020 11:20

You get some very good deals on them in tkmax

SpringSunshineandTulips · 14/08/2020 11:25

Thanks. Will look at honey holly.

My first forray was cheap amazon ones - one OK, the other didn't work at keeping things either hot or cool for long.
Spotted a Swell bottle in a charity shop - with a promo print, so presumably a corporate hand out at a conference - amazing, worth the £2.50!
Found a 24 bottle - also very good.
I do also tend to refill plastic drinks bottles - not ideal, but keeps weight down, and at least it gets used a few times rather than single use. When I'm organised and there's space I shove it in the freezer a few hours before I go out.

Emmelina · 14/08/2020 12:01

They’re amazing, try supermarkets for better priced ones. My 3 DC have broken plastic water bottles in really impossible-seeming ways in the past, so even for the durability and not having to replace every few weeks they’re marvellous!

Rubychard · 14/08/2020 12:10

Me and ds2 have spear & Jackson ones from home bargains. Cost about £5 each and are brilliant. Ds2 puts his in the freezer overnight and gets very cold water in the morning, which stays that temp all day.

CatToddlerUprising · 14/08/2020 12:11

Will- £5, work just as well as the chilly ones

CatToddlerUprising · 14/08/2020 12:11

*Wilko

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 14/08/2020 12:14

We've got Chilly's and DS has a Klean kanteen one. Great in the hot weather when you go out as you don't buy cold drinks. I had a tesco one a few years ago but it didn't stay as cold. I put ice and water in my chilly's one last week to take to work, then accidentally left it in the boot of my car when it was 32 degrees, for nine hours. There was still ice in it at the end of the day

Yetiyoga · 14/08/2020 12:16

My friend bought me a chillies one but I also already had one from wilko for a fiver. Both very similar in my opinion!

AriettyHomily · 14/08/2020 12:17

I've had a few and the Chilly's bottles are the best imo. I have a Wilko one and it doesnt keep drinks cold for nearly as long. The Chilly's bottle can be in the car in full sun and still be fridge cold hours lataer.

Keepitw0nky · 14/08/2020 12:23

Definitely worth it, my favourite are from one green bottle, they do great sales every now and then

JeffVaderneedsatray · 14/08/2020 12:36

We have a selection of metal water bottles. All of them have been excellent at keeping water cool or tea hot.
I have one I got at TKmaxx for under £10 - it is my work water bottle because it has a flip up straw so no chance of spilling all over kids and their work. I also have something Sparrow I got from Amazon for taking out and about. It was about £15 but came with a flip up straw lid and a solid lid plus a carrier.
DD has a Sparrow one too. She did have a Chilly bottle look alike from TK Maxx but the screw in lid broke after about a year.

DS and DH have chilly look alikes from TKMaxx.
I wouldn't spend £25 on one but I wouldn't go back to sistema bottles now.

SoupDragon · 14/08/2020 12:42

We have a variety of brands from TK Maxx. I'm really impressed with them. I feed ice cubes in through the narrow neck of mine and they stay frozen for ages. (I do also have a special ice cube tray that makes long thin ice cubes for this very purpose but the ones the ice maker in my freezer makes are fine)
