Well clauses such as 'A person removed to or kept in a hospital or other suitable place under this regulation may be detained there for a period not exceeding the permitted period of detention' do seem rather draconian and I imagine that, if we went back to early February when these regulations were published, they would seem rather over the top and lots of people would be saying 'nah, it'll never happen'.

But skimming through the regs now, it all seems quite reasonable.

Because if it is then I suggest you don't listen to people who use the words "yous" or "wake up" they're usually huns and full of crap.

A teacher/school cannot two your child for a Corona test or refuse to hand them back over to you as a result of this. You have parental responsibility, some mysterious "they" is not attempting to steal it.

The part if the legislation the meme (and presumably your post) refers to is to cover eventualities where someone in authority may need to take a child for a test and then quarantine/isolate that child, for example children in the care system or residential schools or in young offender facilities.

I haven't seen those yet. Someone posted it to the school FB group, I've commented that school are welcome to keep my children for two weeks and I'll send them in with an overnight back when they start back next week

Considering the amount of nonbelievers in covid and the anti mask brigade, this legislation is absolutely necessary. I see nothing frightening in it as long as we abide by the law.

I really am not getting that it’s scary for us as law abiding parents.

It gives the government full leeway to put anyone in detention - using the excuse that they "may" have Coronavirus (which could be anyone at anytime).

I'm getting a sense of deja vu. I'm sure I remember a very similar thread some months ago. I think it was about the same piece of legislation. OP posted about how terrifying it was without elaborating.

I'm sure I read months ago that the government was giving police the power to detain anyone they thought might have Coronavirus - is this the legislation for that? I was always amazed that no-one seemed to notice or care.

Ah! The time to worry about such legislation is when it stops being a response to COVID. It is temporary and yes, could be abused at a later date, not repealed, misused etc.

But at the time... meh! - with an added air of caution, cos, you know, governments

But to get het up about it now... when various legal entities already have it in their radar (along with all the other emergency legislation), when we had weeks of media hype about it, hours of real time HoC discussion etc.? You have missed the boat, I think!
