I agree with you OP. Most here can't be bothered to read and understand the full implications of this.

It gives the government full leeway to put anyone in detention - using the excuse that they "may" have Coronavirus (which could be anyone at anytime).

But as someone said upthread, this power has been in place for months. It's nowt new. The fact that it hasn't been widely used, if at all, tells you all you need to know.
Intelinside57 · 13/08/2020 17:03

That thing about schools - what a load of bollocks being shared by the hard of thinking.
Don't these people realise that schools have been dealing with suspected Corona cases since March? I'm sick of all this bloody scaremongering on social media.

As you say, most can't be bothered to read and understand...

The piece of legislation linked specifically states that:

"These Regulations apply where the Secretary of State declares, by notice published on www.gov.uk, that the incidence or transmission of Coronavirus constitutes a serious and imminent threat to public health, and that the incidence or transmission of Coronavirus is at such a point that the measures outlined in these Regulations may reasonably be considered as an effective means of preventing the further, significant transmission of Coronavirus (“serious and imminent threat declaration”).

Hardly a full leeway or anyone at anytime.

It is a lot of waffle to read through tbf. Can anyone paste the relevant part that OP is terrified by?

daisychain1620 · 13/08/2020 17:20

Does this legislation actually refer to 'Coronavirus - known as Wuhan novel virus'?
Was this novel not a fictional novel? Could've went with Stephen King's The Stand virus and called it Captain TrippsGrin

Oh. It's an OP who lobs in a contentious link and then doesn't come back, isn't it?

Just the link, not even a comment. Apart from the 'terrifying' thread title.

Wind 'em up and watch 'em go.

As if they can afford to do that. It costs a lot of money to detain someone. With our penny pinching lot I doubt they're even enforcing it for actual coronavirus cases who refuse to self isolate. We're barely enforcing fines, unlike many countries. Almost all of those issued here seem to end up being retrospectively waived.

What's terrifying is that we need the legislation. People are free to risk themselves as much as they like but sadly, as with drink driving, some people choose to risk others. Which isn't ok.

The OP didn't say it was terrifying, she said it was TERRIFYING. TERRIFYING is far more serious and scary than mere terrifying. And everyone knows if something is written in full caps it undoubtedly true. Known fact.
Chloemol · 13/08/2020 17:56

Hmm just as TERRIFYING as the stupid post, from someone who obviously hasn’t actually read the legislation, which has been in place since Feb and I don’t see lots of people removed, do you?

Cocklepops · 13/08/2020 18:23

Oh my. OP must be too terrified to reply. Poor dear must be sat under their dining table, shaking like a crapping dog.

Seem to be a lot of posts like this, people randomly trying to cause panic and then wandering off. Does no one just read books anymore?

Originalyellowbelly · 13/08/2020 18:57

Had the same on my fb yesterday, you couldn't believe the hysteria. The government are going to be taking children from school under the guise of coronavirus and using them for their own under age sex gangs. Hysterical scaremongering.

Xenia · 13/08/2020 19:04

Yes, it was appalling in February as is the Coronavirus Act 2020 - the main legislation and all the regs since. I have been against them all although most people seem perfectly happy with them - sleep walking into a police state.

Zeewest · 13/08/2020 19:13

I believe you can still be arrested and hospitalised if you have TB, old legislation to protect the public at large

bingbong1970 · 13/08/2020 19:22

@Timeforabiscuit

Not terrifying no ... How else do you think we are going to keep travel and borders open during a pandemic?
It's not terrifying that if demanded by the state, all adults and children MUST allow biological samples to be taken, and MUST take a Coronavirus test?.

@coconutwhip my DDs father sent me that letter and told me to pass it on to her school. Absolute crackpot. Needless to say I won't be sending any such thing

Gancanny · 13/08/2020 19:47

Oh FFS, there are not going to be concentration camps.

Aside from how ridiculous the very notion of it is, the practicality is that Boris Johnson and his cabinet couldn't successfully find their own arses with both hands and a map - what makes you think they could collectively get their shit together enough to stealthily introduce concentration camps? Fuck me. Butlins has more chance of opening a concentration camp than the fucking government.

Jesus Christ. Does your Mam know you're on the internet unsupervised?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/08/2020 19:50

concentration camps, concentration camps, concentration camps.

It's been coming for a long time.

Hmm

I blame the hot weather.

oakleaffy · 13/08/2020 19:51

@Gancanny

Is this to do with this Pile Of Shite™️ going around Facebook today?

Because if it is then I suggest you don't listen to people who use the words "yous" or "wake up" they're usually huns and full of crap.

A teacher/school cannot two your child for a Corona test or refuse to hand them back over to you as a result of this. You have parental responsibility, some mysterious "they" is not attempting to steal it.

The part if the legislation the meme (and presumably your post) refers to is to cover eventualities where someone in authority may need to take a child for a test and then quarantine/isolate that child, for example children in the care system or residential schools or in young offender facilities.

Bloody farcebook...So glad I came off it with all that hysterical crap posted all over it...Shared by the unthinking, who just press ''Share''.....Some of the stuff was barking mad and verging on paranoia.
