My maid has just informed that the pool boy has fainted in the heat.
Was IBU to make him work today or should he just suck it up? After all, the kids will be hot after badminton lessons so will need the pool to cool down and there were LEAVES in it!!!

Sparklesocks · 12/08/2020 11:42

I’m really tired - just the worst sleep I’ve ever had in my life! I won the euromillions last night just couldn’t drift off because I was so excited.

leafeater · 12/08/2020 11:43

@Finfintytint

I was discussing this with my pool boy the other day.
I love this GrinGrin

YES! THIS!

BertieBotts · 12/08/2020 11:45

It's because in British culture you're not allowed to overtly say "Everyone be impressed, I have a massive house/salary/penis" so you have to complain about the thing that is great just to show that it's such a burden to have it.

The real purpose of this is not to have people sympathise about the complaint but for them to marvel at what an amazing thing you have.

tohavetwo · 12/08/2020 11:45

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 an old flat mate actually used that once - ‘I just want to be able to out with my friends without men pestering me, it’s so hard getting so much attention’

(I’d never seen it happen and although she was pretty, not stop you in your tracks!)

That's not really stealth boasting though, is it? That's pretty overt boasting Grin
imapenguin · 12/08/2020 11:50

I have a massive penis 😂😂😂

I love the ones when people ask for lunch box ideas on social media and someone comes on with a box full of hummus, tomatoes and carrots.

Whynotnowbaby · 12/08/2020 11:56

t's because in British culture you're not allowed to overtly say "Everyone be impressed, I have a massive house/salary/penis" so you have to complain about the thing that is great just to show that it's such a burden to have it. This

I live abroad and the biggest culture shock is how keen people are to tell you about their successes, assets etc. British people don’t but still want to so they have to use the stealth boast instead. I think it’s a natural instinct to show off which gets squashed out of us in childhood but never really goes away!

Frokni · 12/08/2020 12:00
  • Chipped manicured nail in front of Porsche steering wheel "urgh, anyone know a good manicurist?"
-" DD15 is about to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in her seasonal solo performance but DS19 is lead in his RADA production at the same time across town. DH is finishing the house in Paris so can't make it and the driver has a night off FFS. WWYD? DD15 OR DS19 performance?" -Should just read, "both DD and DS are doing performances at opposite ends of town and Dh is out the country..."

It's about putting in details which boast about what you have and turn the positives into a problem purely so they can boast online. Most of the time they are BS. I will say, the stealth boast has been done by my mums generation for a long time. They kinda started it, the boomers. Mum still does it now Confused

CatkinToadflax · 12/08/2020 12:00

There was an amazing thread on here a few years ago where the OP was asking about hiring a full-time nanny because the OP struggled to wake up in time for the morning school run and then didn’t want to be inconvenienced by the afternoon school run so she could carry on shopping/at the gym/at the spa. As far as I remember she was completely genuine! Confused

MoreListeningLessChatting · 12/08/2020 12:05

How much chlorine should I add to my Olympic Swim Spa? Obviously I don't want to add too much and dry out my skin.

It was a mega bargain with 10% off at the moment so only cost me £37999. I mean that's less than I spent on my second round around car.

listsandbudgets · 12/08/2020 12:07

Or I wish my neighbours would resurface their front drive..I.live in a wealthy neighbourhood and they're bringing down the tone. We spent thousands redoing ours last year. I know they don't earn as much as we do but they could still make an effort surely?

TheSunIsStillShining · 12/08/2020 12:20

As non-british I have to thank all of you fr clarifying this for me in such a picturesque way :D

x2boys · 12/08/2020 12:23

I remember one thread about what does being skint mean to you ,the answers ranged from searching down the sofa to get enough money for a loaf of bread, too anything less than £10,000 in my current account and I start to worry ,you have to love Mumsnet sometimes😂

Brilliant!

Most people know what a stealth boast is.

Is a stealth boost a typo or something different, OP?

cringeworthit · 12/08/2020 12:28

There's so much pond weed on our lake that the swans are finding it difficult to swim about.

Shall I get someone in to clear the weeds or should I try and persuade the swans to move to the other lake which is a lot bigger?

TeenPlusTwenties · 12/08/2020 12:34

On the education boards:

  • My y6 DD just got 117, 118 and 120 for her SATs? Is that OK, I don't really understand how it works.
  • Disastrous GCSE results! I'm really cross with DS. He got 3x9s, 5x8s and 1x7. The 7 was for Drama - we made him do it much against his will as he is very shy and has a stammer and we thought it would be good for him. I'm really worried the 7 will stop him from doing Maths at Cambridge.

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2020 12:44

@BaitandSwitch

I can't seem to put on weight, no matter how hard I try.
That's definitely not a stealth boast. It's a problem quite a few people face.
SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 12:48

I worked with someone who had just bought a new house... ‘Oh it’s nice but I have all those five bathrooms to clean...’ also a dad at school who was living in a very very posh part of town (company was paying) ‘I really don’t like all those flights of stairs’ (this was a 3 story townhouse in a gated community in millionaires row).

AlCalavicci · 12/08/2020 12:55

@WeveGottaGetTherouxThis , very funny .I have a image of a boost creeping out of a cupboard so it doest get eaten

Now can someone do something about the sea , it's rocking my yacht and it's getting hard to dictate to my secretary this reply
