To be completely bored of the constant coverage of Harry and Meghan

It's just too much! Way too much media focus on a them and all their drama. There's a global pandemic, explosions, oil spills etc. etc. etc. There are so many more important things going on in the World than a bunch of over-priviledged plebs and their family drama. It's not interesting, it's not relevant to the rest of the World and it's not in any way beneficial to anyone to keep speculating about them. I get that some people may find it interesting but so interesting it dominates headlines for months on end?!?

I should point out, I'm moaning about the media's obsession rather than them as an individual couple; whilst I'm not a fan of theirs by any stretch, it's the ridiculous number of articles I've seen about them across different news sites that's bugging me. Surely there's not that much to say about them?!

OP posts:
DirtyBlonde · 12/08/2020 08:05

the posters on here who seem to have nothing better to do than comment on endless thread

That sums up the absolute entirety of MN, and possibly every topic on chat site in the planet!

This is, as one poster put it brilliantly in the past, Starbucks not Party Hall. A bit of whiffling on about tangential matters is the whole damned point!

We all seem to have nothing better to do' whatever we are posting about

00100001 · 12/08/2020 08:07

@Moondust001

You are aware of the fact that you don't have to read the stuff. There's plenty of alternative articles. I seem to manage very well without reading any of the crap. I'm dimly aware of the fact they got married. It's not difficult to find alternative news.
You're only "dimly aware" that Harry is married? Were you living under a rock a few years ago? Confused

I've little to no interest in the RF, but wouldn't be parading ignorance of something that made global news for quite sometime.

It's like saying, you're dimly aware that Brexit occurred, or Donald Trump is US president, or that exam results are a bit controversial right now Confused

jessstan2 · 12/08/2020 08:11

I must say I haven't seen a lot of coverage of H & M recently. You have to look for it to see it. It's been all pandemic in the media though that has faded over the last couple of days.

Austriana · 12/08/2020 08:13

It's because you read the daily mail!

Friendsoftheearth · 12/08/2020 08:15

They are trying to sell a (rubbish, poorly written) book!

How else will they bankroll their billionaire lifestyle? They are caught up in a vicious cycle of needing attention to pay their bills, I expect the coverage to dramatically escalate in the coming months as the bills drop on the doormat.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 08:15

@DirtyBlonde, you've quoted a tiny part of my post out of context. Meghen Markle is specifically targeted on MN, the threads about her outnumber any about a popular culture personality and they're usually negative at best, many littered with racism and misogyny. There is a poisonous obsession with the woman on here and in the country in general, and the media knows it.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 08:19

I agree MouthBreathingRage.

Never in the 16plus years I've been here have I seen a woman knocked down and maligned so much. It is self perpetuating and it is no more than clickbait.

I expect the coverage to dramatically escalate in the coming months as the bills drop on the doormat
What on earth does that mean? What an odd statement coming from no knowledge on the matter.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 08:20

They are trying to sell a (rubbish, poorly written) book!
No, they are not.
They didn't write the book, they don't get the profits from it.

AdaColeman · 12/08/2020 08:21

The people who put the book together were part of the H&M media/press team, so they will have plenty of mates in the press from whom they can call in favours. Hence all the press coverage for something that is actually a non event.
For the newspapers, the “story” is an easy filler, stock photos etc, and also it isn’t death or mayhem, unlike every other story!

tohavetwo · 12/08/2020 08:21

It’s really only the Mail online that does this!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/08/2020 08:23

I've never seen any coverage lately, never mind constant.

Has something happened? Has she bought a new hat? Has he bought a new plum for his mouth?

The plot thinskens . . .

FakeNewts · 12/08/2020 08:24

The problem isn't 'the media', it's the Daily Mail. Meghan has an ongoing court case against the Mail, so the Mail has been running a relentless campaign to turn the public against her. If stories about her bother you then stop reading the Daily Mail. In fact 'don't read the Daily Mail' is good advice in general.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 08:29

So true FakeNewts
The DM are going for the jugular with MM to teach her a lesson. Sensationalist hedlines, 15 articles a day etc etc.

What gets me is that people actually believe this twaddle and take it as gospel. Gobsmacking.

As my dear old Gran used to say 'there are always two sides to a story, just like a coin*.

However, if you are tunnel vision on Meghan and Harry you won't entertain or even contemplate the other side of the coin.

MakeItRain · 12/08/2020 08:31

I've not seen much coverage about them either, tho I don't read the DM. I feel sorry for them. They just seem like a nice couple trying to get by. Of course they need a high income. They would get hounded if they moved to a little unprotected semi somewhere. Good luck to them. I hope they find a steady way of making a good income and find some peace.

TrickorTreacle · 12/08/2020 08:31

@00100001

Plus sites like the mail will have algorithms to push stories it thinks you'll like, the more you click on Harry and Megan, the more you'll see about them ... It's a vicious circle! Anything to get to you to click on to the next article (and therefore load an as and make the DM more money)
You can get around that by running a sandbox browser. Usually called private mode or incognito mode.
NYMM · 12/08/2020 08:32

I would just skip past any article featuring Harry & Megan.

They're irrelevant to me.

Lifeandjoy · 12/08/2020 08:33

Meghan is mixed race and no amount of claims that “it’s not racism” can hide the obvious fact that the underlying fuel for the hatred levelled at this woman is her blackness. If a poll was conducted, I am sure that the vast majority of people if colour would agree but hey, their opinion does not count. The can only imagine the psychological hurt people of colour must feel when they constantly see this woman being bashed for no reason.

I really hope that black and brown Commonwealth countries withdraw their warmth from this royal institution. The monarchy wants and relies on them for relevance but despise them for the colour of their skin. The queen is only relevant in the UK and the Commonwealth. It’s about time people of colour say ‘no more’ to those who loath them.

Stop abusing Meghan Markle!

1Morewineplease · 12/08/2020 08:35

@TeamWTF

Ultimately, they are irrelevant but don't want to be This. Exactly.
Yep.
Roussette · 12/08/2020 08:35

Laurie that is a really good balanced article.

This from it...

'So, when reading about Harry and Meghan, it really does pay to keep your wits about you. There is a surface level to the story – not all of it untrue – and there are many anonymous sources of varying degrees of reliability to give colour and context. And, in the background, there are quite a lot of worried newspaper executives and former editors, who have absolutely zero interest in treating the couple kindly or even-handedly'

And that is why I do not rely on the DM or DT for my news!

Figgygal · 12/08/2020 08:36

The daily mail coverage is ridiculous but they clearly have their own agenda

I just skip by it whilst getting my daily showbiz fix

NYMM · 12/08/2020 08:38

Stop abusing Meghan Markle!

Confused
Ohtherewearethen · 12/08/2020 08:42

@Lifeandjoy - your comment really bothers me. What you're effectively saying is that disliking anybody who is black/mixed race, whatever the reason, is racism. There are many, many reasons I dislike Meghan and not a single one of them is because of how she looks. I think you're being actually quite offensive when you say can only imagine the psychological hurt people of colour must feel when they constantly see this woman being bashed for no reason.
You seem to think that all people of colour are a single, like-minded group who all must think and feel the same. That is racist actually. I don't feel psychological hurt when I see Priti Patel get a hounding in the press because she is an obnoxious twat and I can't identify with her at all. Same with Meghan really. You can't say that people must like her and daren't say anything about her behaviour just because she's mixed race. Nobody gets to behave his they wish because of the colour of their skin.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 08:48

There are many, many reasons I dislike Meghan and not a single one of them is because of how she looks.

Unless you know here personally, you probably have zero reason to dislike the woman. I doubt anyone would admit to the real reason they don't like Meghan is because she's everything the British Royals aren't (including her skin colour), so they find the most ridiculous, tenuous reasons that usually stem from reading the same bollocks the OP does in the biased media.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 08:49

*her personally. Not wearing my glasses this morning....
