To be completely bored of the constant coverage of Harry and Meghan

It's just too much! Way too much media focus on a them and all their drama. There's a global pandemic, explosions, oil spills etc. etc. etc. There are so many more important things going on in the World than a bunch of over-priviledged plebs and their family drama. It's not interesting, it's not relevant to the rest of the World and it's not in any way beneficial to anyone to keep speculating about them. I get that some people may find it interesting but so interesting it dominates headlines for months on end?!?

I should point out, I'm moaning about the media's obsession rather than them as an individual couple; whilst I'm not a fan of theirs by any stretch, it's the ridiculous number of articles I've seen about them across different news sites that's bugging me. Surely there's not that much to say about them?!

OP posts:
Moondust001 · 12/08/2020 07:05

You are aware of the fact that you don't have to read the stuff. There's plenty of alternative articles. I seem to manage very well without reading any of the crap. I'm dimly aware of the fact they got married. It's not difficult to find alternative news.

Ohtherewearethen · 12/08/2020 07:12

Ha ha it seems the competitive 'haven't seens' are out in force! It's ok to admit you know something above being 'dimly aware' that a member of the royal family had got married. In fact I'd suggest it to be most unusual to be ignorant of the huge row surrounding them leaving the royal family following the treatment Meghan received by the press and accusations of systematic racism. All these people far too clever and fancy to read a few of the crappy gossip rags now and then. It's not unintelligent nor ignorant to read many different news sources.

positivepixie · 12/08/2020 07:14

In response to your question OP - BBC news and The Guardian. The fact that you’re relying on DM and The Telegraph says it all.

BeChuille · 12/08/2020 07:17

I agree. I know longer care. Harry's lecturing is still being reported
Meghan's court cases and law suits are covered.
The book is dredged up on a slow news day.

I cant wait until they are like david van day and teresa bazaar from Dollar.

JinglingHellsBells · 12/08/2020 07:17

I've only seen it online in the Mail.

The journalist who has written the book is a young 'un and trying to make a name for himself. No credibility in my eyes.

positivepixie · 12/08/2020 07:18

@Ohtherewearethen errrr, not ‘clever and fancy’ just consciously avoiding the newspapers/channels that focus on stories like this when there are so many other things going on in the world. Of course I’m aware of H&M and the appalling treatment she received (at the hands of those newspapers I don’t fund!) and if I want to read about them, I know I can find news - I just don’t click on the DM online everyday, doesn’t make me ‘fancy’, it’s just a choice.

lifeafter50 · 12/08/2020 07:21

YANBU - utterly sick of the whiney, entitled pair hogging the headlines. I don't bother reading about them but their pics are unavoidable.

BeChuille · 12/08/2020 07:25

@TeamWTF

Ultimately, they are irrelevant but don't want to be This. Exactly.
This is the absolute crux of it. Eventually their platforms will dwindle.

It's not just their lawsuits, they havent thought through any one meaningful concise achievable objective for change and yet they continue to tell the world what to think about climate/race/social/privacy/media etc

They will wake up one morning and realise there is no reaction. Their followers are following somebody relevant now.

And im not anti m&h, i wish they would hurry up and have some insight.

WinnieTheW0rm · 12/08/2020 07:25

The Guardian has little coverage?? Are you reading a different one?

The book:

www.theguardian.com/books/2020/aug/10/finding-freedom-by-omid-scobie-and-carolyn-durand-harry-and-meghan-and-the-making-of-a-modern-royal-family

Links to other articles:

middleager · 12/08/2020 07:31

Hilarious that OP gets a hard time for reading the "wrong" media and then somebody cites the BBC!

OP, you should be reading The Guardian of course. Doesn't matter they, and the BBC, don't know what a woman is.....

jolokoy · 12/08/2020 07:31

It's the newspapers that are the issue. Newspapers are mostly celeb gossip. You can't get any sort of information from them. I totally include the Guardian in this! The Guardian is one of the worst offenders!

If you want news without this sort of boring wittering on about random actors and models you need to read weekly type magazines instead: The Economist, The New Statesman, The Spectator, Private Eye.

AhNowTed · 12/08/2020 07:36

It's basically the Mail. I have the app and 'only' 10 stories today including the main story. Yesterday about 15. But presumably that's what their readers want.

Nothing in the Guardian.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 07:42

Ultimately, they are irrelevant but don't want to be.

Huh, isnt it ironic how much they have in common with the posters on here who seem to have nothing better to do than comment on endless thread about Meghan. I'm sure they hope that Kate or even the Queen are secretly on here, and will be given an OBE for their sleuthing work on just how MM brainwashed poor Harry away from his definitely not toxic family.

The media isn't forcing anything on people. They know many of the population are desperate to have a froth over Meghan Markle and whatever imaginary way she gave our precious English Rose Kate a nasty side eye this week, no matter how much those same people sniff and follow it with 'not that I care about them, or their lives of course'.

At least the OP has the decency to admit they have been reading the DM even if they're not smart enough to make the correlation between hearing to much about Meghan Markle and reading a paper that has a history of hating women and minorities.

LaurieMarlow · 12/08/2020 07:47

I haven’t seen anything in weeks OP. Stop clicking on them and they’ll go away.

And in what universe is starting a thread on AIBU an appropriate response to being ‘bored’ with something? That’s asking for it. Just get on with your life.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 07:48

Frenchpastry Totally agree but it is easy to avoid if you don't read the DM (they are ridiculous with their 20 articles a day) and the DT (clickbait for a failing newspaper) and ditto on the threads on here where it is an echo chamber and disagree at your peril.

I agree that it takes away from PAndrew. It's no wonder things have ended up like they did, the RF have not helped them, yet protected Andrew and these continuing articles in the rags keeps andrew out the limelight. How lucky the RF are to have H&M as scapegoats.

If you want something more balanced about them than the vile DM, try this article from the Independent.

Ohtherewearethen · 12/08/2020 07:50

I'm sure they hope that Kate or even the Queen are secretly on here, and will be given an OBE for their sleuthing work on just how MM brainwashed poor Harry away from his definitely not toxic family

What an infantile comment. You appear unaware that people each have their own minds and are allowed to form opinions. Some may differ from yours. You clearly also have nothing better to do than get upset that people have a different opinion on Harry and Meghan from you. Maybe you shouldn't take comments from random people on Mumsnet so personally.

LaurieMarlow · 12/08/2020 07:54

You appear unaware that people each have their own minds and are allowed to form opinions

People’s ‘opinions’ are never formed in a vacuum. They are strongly shaped by their own innate prejudices and what they are exposed to.

Behavioural economics 101.

Most people blissfully ignorant of all this of course.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 07:54

@MouthBreathingRage
brilliant post.
I wish I was as eloquent as you.

Fairyliz · 12/08/2020 07:57

Well I’m loving reading all the daft things about them. It takes my mind off all of the we are all going to die of COVID-19’ articles.

I don't think I've seen anything either, sorry OP. I just don't read that kind of thing and choose to ignore stuff about the royals as it doesn't interest me. Just read something else.

Toptotoeunicolour · 12/08/2020 08:00

It is interesting how Meghan is treated versus Andrew but I think the answer lies in Andrew's willingness to lay low and do nothing, speak to no-one and basically hide. He is trying to fade into insignificance. They are not, they are releasing videos harping on about eco industries and how we are all latent racists etc. and ridiculous books so they are aiming for fame, but basically just make an ongoing hash of it. For some, the horror of watching the train crash that they are is really compelling but there is a high chance he will not be able to deal with it and will suffer terribly.

monkeyonthetable · 12/08/2020 08:00

I haven't seen a single news item about H & M in months.
Change your news feeds.

Samcro · 12/08/2020 08:02

sadly there are some people that are so obsessed with slagging Meghan off that they will do anything to find some thing nasty to say about her.
I don't read the papers(apart from a local one) so don't see all these things.
Just the obsessive trolling and hate on here and another forum.

Sidewinder30 · 12/08/2020 08:02

You read the Daily HateMail. This invalidates your complaint.
