i know it's a 1st world thing but i totally hate it,it's so hard to keep cool, sleep, have any energy it's making me feel murderous. Angry
then i read about the floods in wales and know i'm vu, it's so extreme on both accounts, the heat will settle but those peeps will have their lives turned upside down for possibly months.
shut up romeo and get on with it, rant over Smile

Rosebel I haven’t lived in the UK for a few years but still have my hometown in Surrey on my phone weather app and from what I can see, it’s been pretty constantly hot since about April. And as we know British heat is very different to heat elsewhere. I certainly was a moaner whenever it got to 25+ because I found it so humid and smoggy. No breeze, no air con, houses not built for it. I envy people who aren’t bothered by it but it certainly used to get to me and bring my mood down considerably 😅

SerenDippitty · 13/08/2020 12:10

Had a thunderstorm here last night but it is still horribly muggy and humid.

Pepperwort · 13/08/2020 12:15

Why do people always moan when it gets hot? It's a few weeks a year if that.

Because it makes some of us ill. Have you heard of heatstroke and heat exhaustion? I get heat exhaustion easily. A few weeks of it could give me full on heatstroke. I feel very sorry for anything with fur.

Burnthurst187 · 13/08/2020 12:23

It's raining hard where I am and I'm over the moon, it's so cool now Smile

Neron · 13/08/2020 12:46

As I said earlier in the thread, it's not just a few weeks, it's been months and since April. I have a nice tan from all the sun.
On another note, I've just hung a wash out. Bound to rain now Grin

dalecooper · 13/08/2020 12:57

We complain because we are just not equipped forit in the U.K. Houses don't have air-con. Many of us are pale-skinned, fair people who simply cannot handle the sun. I burn easily, come out in a heat rash after too much sun (too much sun is about half an hour), and just cannot cope with it. I turn into a vampire skulking around in the shadows not going out of doors unless I have to. If you are lucky enough not to be bothered by the sun then how wonderful for you.

Change17 · 13/08/2020 13:05

Neron it may just be a few weeks but after that, it’s months of grey drizzle damp gloominess. So not exactly a nice consolation prize at the end of the heat wave suffering 😅

Rosebel · 13/08/2020 13:25

It's already a lot cooler today (where I am) and I'm so depressed. I have a feeling summers over so image they'll be a lot of happy MN on here.
I hate the cold weather and rain which generally last a lot longer than nice weather. Often our summers are pretty rubbish.

dalecooper · 13/08/2020 13:32

We STILL have not had rain where I am. They keep saying thunder and rain is coming. That has been on the forecast for the last four days. Even my 9 year old is desperate for the rain to come.

LakieLady · 13/08/2020 13:33

Not to mention the delightful person who has just pulled up in their car right outside my open window and is sitting there with their engine running

I think that when people leave their engines running for more than 30 seconds when parked, it should be legal to open the door, remove their keys from the ignition and lob them into the wide blue yonder.

Mrs Over-The-Road's BF stayed over last night. At 6.34, he started his noisy diesel Merc, the loud music came on and he made a phone call, clearly audible because he opened his window so we could all hear how important he is (not) as he conducted a conversation with his voice raised, presumably so that he could be heard over his music. All this was approx 20' from my (open) bedroom window.

His life expectancy goes down by at least a year for every night he stays.

I love it! Those of us that suffer more than average when it’s cold have to cope with it for months at a time without threads and FB posts validating how horrible it feels.

Less than a week of heat and we’re made to feel selfish for being properly comfortable for a few days because other people don’t like it. 🤷‍♀️

safariboot · 13/08/2020 13:43

Air conditioning will become essential in homes in coming years. Installing it is expensive and disruptive though, and it will only increase our energy use.

The fact that we don't have weather like this for months on end is probably why so many of us dislike it. Humans will acclimatise to hot weather, but a week or two isn't enough to do that, we're still adapted to Britain's usual temperate climate.

And it's worth remembering that heatwaves kill. In the USA and Europe alike they are the biggest weather killer, killing more people than floods or storms.

Are you on the right thread? I don’t think anyone has said the people who like hot weather are selfish, it’s not like a person controls the elements

lol - i know - we are so SELFISH
