i know it's a 1st world thing but i totally hate it,it's so hard to keep cool, sleep, have any energy it's making me feel murderous. Angry
then i read about the floods in wales and know i'm vu, it's so extreme on both accounts, the heat will settle but those peeps will have their lives turned upside down for possibly months.
shut up romeo and get on with it, rant over Smile

*Then there's the constant supermarket deliveries, with their noisy engines that they leave running, bloody awful beeping as they reverse, clattery roller shutters and clattery delivery crates are so bloody intrusive, then we have a builders' lorry delivering at least once a day, and I'm TRYING TO FUCKING WORK!

I was fine working from home until it got hot, I never really noticed the noise.*

I live on a fairly busy road. A month or so ago there was roadworks and right by our house there was temporary traffic lights in place for a week or two. The roadworks I could live with but the constant sound of cars stopping but with their engines on and many of them with loud music blaring was infuriating.

I love it even in London, but do have a garden which is quite abundant. Think it helps

RowboatsinDisguise · 11/08/2020 19:10

Pregnant and just feeling useless here.

I don’t remember suffering this badly when I was pregnant with DS, and we had a really long, hot summer then! I think maybe running around after a toddler makes it much worse!

CharitySchmarity · 11/08/2020 19:13

I hate it too. I currently walk to work (about 50 minutes each way) as I would rather not take the bus unless I have to, and I'm ginger so I don't really want to be exposed to the hot sun for that long. Using sun cream just seems to make me hotter and wearing long sleeves and long trousers isn't much better. The only upside is there's a place on my route where I can pick blackberries from the hedgerow, and when they've been in the hot sun they seem even sweeter and juicier. It was also very hot in my workplace (I'm a lone worker) the last few days, until I discovered a working fan hidden away somewhere today, which will make a massive difference for me.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/08/2020 19:14

All our windows of apartment are west facing. Even with blinds shut from 11am to 10 pm and windows open it is 38 degrees in the flat with 0 wind.

I love summer, but this is killing me.

troppibambini · 11/08/2020 19:15

I absolutely love hot weather when I'm abroad I love being on the beach all day or round the pool but here it's just horrible.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 11/08/2020 19:19

YANBU. I would love to be one of those people that likes hot weather, it must be great to sit out soaking up the sunshine. But I'm a proper winter baby and wilt at anything above about 22C. I was supposed to be taking DS out for the day on the train, but the thought of sitting on one for two hours in 30 degree heat wearing a face mask was more than I could stand. Were going next Wednesday now instead.

fucknuckle · 11/08/2020 19:37

@TinselTortoise sympathies. i have psoriatic arthritis and the hot weather is making my pain worse. i wear a pain patch but they are horrendous in the heat. my arms are in a right state.

so yeah. this heat can do one. i’m sweaty and i can’t sleep (apart from the occasional sudden sofa coma during the day) and just ugh.

my cat just looks like he wants to take his coat off.

missfliss · 11/08/2020 19:53

South coast here. Too fecking hot.

Hate it. WFH in a tiny airless office with blind shut all day.

No sleep at night.

Only nice thing today was the sea swim we had at 07:00

kirinm · 11/08/2020 19:53

I'm in London and wfh. My flat is about 31 degrees and it's hideous. To top it off we are isolating as I have a fever. I can't work our whether I'm boiling hot because of the fever or because of the heat.

PhoneLock · 11/08/2020 20:01

I'm still loving it. Eating dinner outside in the warm is a rare treat in the UK.

Sailingblue · 11/08/2020 20:07

Fed up. The baby is covered in heat rash, all of our bedrooms are 32 degrees. The house is like a sauna. Every year I say we’re getting aircon but never do.

bookworm14 · 11/08/2020 20:09

YANBU, it’s bloody awful. I’m in London and it hasn’t dropped below 34 degrees for days. I have a permanent headache and can’t think properly.

Izzwizzo · 11/08/2020 20:11

I love it here in the UK when it's warm but this heat and humidity can do one! I'm going to share my best sleeping tip though. A frozen hot water bottle. I fill up my hot water bottle in the morning and stick it in the freezer and an hour before bed I wrap it in a tea towel and stick it on the bed which means lovely cool sheets even when it's boiling hot in our bedroom. I then sleep with my feet on it (weird but makes me feel cooler all over and I can actually drop off) in extreme heat I just cuddle it (so much more pleasant than a hot sweaty DH!)GrinGrin.

uglyface · 11/08/2020 20:14

God, I love summer and warm weather etc, but 32-36 degrees all day every day for nearly a week is a case of be careful what you wished for!

It’s too hot for our little girl to play outside without feeling ill, and her bedroom thermometer was reading 30.4C at bedtime despite having closed curtains and a fan with ice water on all day.

Bring back 22-26 degrees and I’ll be delighted!

IceniSky · 11/08/2020 20:15

WFH sat in my home office at 29deg today. Sweat running down my back, feeling odd and my calves starting to cramp. Hate it. 4 days into a new job so I can't slack off. Dreading tomorrow.

Solina · 11/08/2020 20:18

I hate summer with passion. Nothing good about it. I don't function with heat and humidy, it makes my brain feel like mush and I just feel irritated all day long. So we have portable air con now which is absolute heaven.

Cherry83 · 11/08/2020 23:23

Just walked around the house on the first floor to open all the windows before going to bed...but they are open already...no difference Confused

I love the heat usually but having to wear a mask at various work locations today has been so uncomfortable, struggled for breathe at times. 😷

atvh · 12/08/2020 00:01

I don't mind the heat, but I'm being driven demented by the constant noise, which I don't normally notice because I haven't usually got every window and door in the house open.

Me too @LakieLady. I’m in London and our street seems so much noisier than usual because everyone has their windows open. I’m currently listening to my neighbour having a very long and loud conversation on their mobile phone (from inside their flat) whilst typing this! Not to mention the delightful person who has just pulled up in their car right outside my open window and is sitting there with their engine running.

Plus I have a 15 week old baby and am constantly worrying that the noise from outside will impact on his naps.

I think this heatwave is the final straw that has convinced DH and I to make the leap and move out of the city. I’ve had enough!

Jennygentle · 12/08/2020 00:34

I hate anything above 25 degrees-ish. It tips from deliciously warm to burning hot.
Good tip for sleeping- wring out an old t shirt of nightshirt in cool water, grit your teeth and put it on. Also wet your hair and leave it sopping. As the water evaporates it pulls the heat from your skin long enough to drift off.

ladybird69 · 12/08/2020 01:24

I’m hating this weather. I’ve got a new indoor cat so I can’t have any windows or doors open! As she just wants to escape. I need someone with a ton of ice to fill bath for me as I’m melting here in the SW

Rubyupbeat · 12/08/2020 02:44

Unbearable heat, disgusting, I am a real winter person, I love the cold and the long nights.
We have air con throughout the house and my OH loved to remind me how I was against getting it installed, as it seemed a waste of money, as I now worship it, cool, good night's sleep etc and I don't leave the house when it's intense heat, like atm.

WitchesGlove · 12/08/2020 03:16

I went to the cinema today and yesterday just to spend some time somewhere with good air con!

safariboot · 12/08/2020 03:16

Agreed. I always think weather like this is OK if you can just laze around on holiday, but it's horrible to actually work in. I've been forced to garden in it because our landlord has been on our case demanding stuff is sorted quickly, and the sweat just drips off me, I can't even wear my glasses or they'll get covered in drops.

And we're only going to get more of it. And yet British home design still seems to be entirely focussed on winter warmth. Unless our government makes building for summer coolness mandatory in new homes and major refurbishments now, we're going to end up a country with housing totally unfit for our future climate, and running air con to desperately try and cool down our woolly blanket homes will send our energy usage soaring.

Pepperwort · 12/08/2020 03:24

Hating it here too. It's so muggy and thunderstorms never clear it.
