i know it's a 1st world thing but i totally hate it,it's so hard to keep cool, sleep, have any energy it's making me feel murderous. Angry
then i read about the floods in wales and know i'm vu, it's so extreme on both accounts, the heat will settle but those peeps will have their lives turned upside down for possibly months.
shut up romeo and get on with it, rant over Smile

I absolutely HATE the heat too, glad I've found "my people" on here, having been laughed at for most of my life for loving the cold. I much prefer frosty days, and never ever complain of the cold or the rain or the winter gloom. We can always warm up/put on a jumper/switch on the lights but can't get the temperature down....
UK will have to get used to building with air conditioning as we're only going to get hotter, for longer, in the future.

I have blinds and curtains drawn to keep out the sun. I also have portable air conditioners which are awkward things (and noisy) but they do help. I used to live down south and the heatwaves were awful; recently moved further north and I'm delighted that our temperatures are always a couple of degrees cooler, even on hot days.

Roll on winter...….!

YANBU. Swollen ankles, sweaty underboobs and a rotten headache. What's not to love? Sweaty, sleepless nights? No appetite? Pah!
The butter has melted and, worse, so has my chocolate.
Its uncivilized is what it is!
And the cat is casting disgruntled glares at me for refusing to turn the sun off for him. Poor kitty.

Feellikedancingyeah · 11/08/2020 14:07

YANBU it's spoiled our plans. Wanted to do something fun with the kids but it's now too hot for that particular activity. I've got some lumpy midge bites that are driving me mad and it's too hot to get any restful sleep.

AlwaysLatte · 11/08/2020 14:12

Luckily we've chosen the week that's 34 at home to a coastal place that's 22-25 at the moment, and breezy. It's lovely - I really don't like it too hot!

Minai · 11/08/2020 14:16

It’s horrible here in South London. I think I could almost manage if it was a dry heat but it’s horribly muggy and makes me feel claustrophobic like I can’t catch my breath. I’m so hot and sticky it’s ok for about 2 minutes after having a cold shower but then straight back to hot and sticky. My house is a mid terrace and very well insulated and can’t seem to lose heat so when we have days and days of this heat it never cools down and it’s currently 30 degrees in the bedrooms and my toddlers are as unhappy about it as me. I’m a northerner living in London so I really don’t remember it being this hot growing up, it feels so much hotter down here I am dreaming of being somewhere cool. Hoping for some thunderstorms soon!

rosegoldwatcher · 11/08/2020 14:40

If I was young and lived by the coast I would love the sunshine and the heat.
But I am an oldy and live just about as far away from any bit of the UK coast so I don't like it at all.
Luckily we have a rowan tree in the coolest corner of the garden, where the sun can't get me.

A tower fan is just about making sleep possible.

LittleRed53 · 11/08/2020 14:49

I completely hate it too. I'm fed up of feeling like I need a shower all day long (and with a 2 month old EBF baby I'm lucky to get away log enough for just one!), fed up of stir crazy kids because it's too hot to play outside, fed up of how guilty I feel putting my poor DD in a bedroom that's 28 degrees even when the velux is open overnight... And very fed up with what a miserable cow I know I'm being, but I just can't cope!

I never complain about rain or wintry weather, so I think I'm allowed to bitch about this evil heat Angry

KipperTheFrog · 11/08/2020 14:50

The difference between here and many other hot countries is the humidity. It’s like 81% humidity at the moment according to my weather app!
I love the summer, I hate being cold, but this is a killer at the moment. Especially trying to keep my 6 and 3 year olds out of the midday sun and hydrated! I can’t exercise myself because it’s too hot. Grumpy, old, DDog is struggling too.

pastapestoparmesan · 11/08/2020 14:56

I’m a hater. I woke up this morning with sweat literally running down my face and I felt ill. I’m not ill, my body just can’t cope with the heat. I also hate coats and rarely wear one, maybe a gilet if it’s freezing or a raincoat if it’s pouring. Because I hate umbrellas too!

Tumbleweed101 · 11/08/2020 14:59

I enjoy it on my days off but not when I have to work as my workplace is hotter than my house and the outdoor space has less shade. But it’s only a week or so and then it will cool back down. I find being able to sit out in the evenings lovely and also early mornings.

LakieLady · 11/08/2020 15:01

YANBU.

I don't mind the heat, but I'm being driven demented by the constant noise, which I don't normally notice because I haven't usually got every window and door in the house open.

Every fucker in my road seems to have a noisy diesel, they all seem to have really loud music on in their cars so every time someone arrives or leaves I can hear booming bass, and if one more person stops to have a natter or take a phone call right outside my house so that it sounds like they're in the room with me I may just have to kill them.

Then there's the constant supermarket deliveries, with their noisy engines that they leave running, bloody awful beeping as they reverse, clattery roller shutters and clattery delivery crates are so bloody intrusive, then we have a builders' lorry delivering at least once a day, and I'm TRYING TO FUCKING WORK!

I was fine working from home until it got hot, I never really noticed the noise.

Jellybeansincognito · 11/08/2020 15:10

I hate it, trapping us all in our homes again!

cancelculturemeinyellow · 11/08/2020 16:30

I love an oh so british debate about the "best weather".

Nobody is BU to like or dislike any kind of weather. The hot weather brigade will insist that they're perfectly comfortable sweating all night with a fan on and blistering their skin in the heat, and the cold weather brigade will insist that they can go out in snow in shorts and not so much as shiver thank you very much.

Can we all agree that incessant rain is shit?

Miriel · 11/08/2020 16:41

It's horrible! I had a relative invite me over so we could sit out in the 'lovely sun' and chat. No thanks! I'm indoors with the fan on. I'll sit outside in the evening when it's cooler than being inside.

I'm trying to lose some weight and exercise is also horrible in the heat. It's just too much.

WhosThatGirl89 · 11/08/2020 18:23

I'll also add my hair is now down to my ass and I can't stand having it down in this heat. I can't wait till Thurs when I'm getting it chopped off to a bob !

I keep holding up my ponytail and considering one big SNIP! ShockGrin
wrexham · 11/08/2020 18:36

To me it's the humidity and that buildings are not designed for 30C.

WhosThatGirl89 · 11/08/2020 18:39

chavvysexpond I've had this much chopped off before. It is such a relief! I've always got it in a bun atm

Kitkat05 · 11/08/2020 18:42

@attillathenun I agree with you. My house thermometer is showing 30 degrees!

Kitkat05 · 11/08/2020 18:43

@WhosThatGirl89 cutting my hair to shoulder length was the best thing I did in life! :)

annabel85 · 11/08/2020 18:44

@SuzieCarmichael

I also hate it. I can cope with a couple of days of it, or if there’s a cool breeze overnight and temperatures drop below 20. But it’s been a week of this now - and too hot at night - and I am so bloody sick of it that yesterday I was on Rightmove searching for houses up north .... 😂
It's surprising the difference in the weather between north and south.

Today is the hottest it's been in this spell where I am in the north west and it's 25 at the moment compared to 33 in London. It felt hot to walk in today but glorious weather to sit outside a cafe or a beer garden.

It's very rare it gets to 30 here but it seems to regularly down south in the summer. I wish we had a bit more sunshine but I don't envy Londoners when it comes to the higher temperatures.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 11/08/2020 18:47

YANBU. I wouldn’t normally complain but with wfh I don’t have air con during the day like normal. My flat is a hot air trap and I could hardly concentrate during a client call yesterday - I had sweat running down me and my concentration was going due to the heat. Today I tried going to a Costa to work for the air con but obviously that doesn’t really work at the moment either. I agree it’s no biggie in the grand scheme of things but welcome the safe space for a little rant!

ChavvySexPond · 11/08/2020 18:51

Same. It's the only way.
kemosabeimalone · 11/08/2020 18:54

I hate it too - I have a NB and its making me anxious all the time that she's going to get seriously ill from overheating / dehydration.

We are in London and literally camped out over a fan while I try to make sure she's getting enough milk (bf). I felt like I could feel a dip in her fontanelle earlier which was really disconcerting. This week has been a complete right off in terms of getting anything done - the house is a tip- normally id put her in the sling and get on with things but I'm worried its too hot for that atm!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/08/2020 18:56

It was 24 here in Scotland today, I can't even cope with that. I can not wait for the cold weather to come. There is nothing good about really hot weather. Absolutely nothing.
