What a god awful programme! a badly behaved child who gets constant negativity and no love and support from his parents, who clearly favor his brother, great viewing for kids!!

@heyfrog

It's a dreadful programme. Think it's the only thing we used to ban when my kids were little as we could see a real correlation between them watching it and poor behaviour.
We had this with Gon

Ds started to behave incredibly badly after watching Gon. He head butted and bit because Gon did.

It was banned very quickly

FinnyStory · 11/08/2020 12:37

Mine are almost adults now but I banned it. You could see my two filling the roles. If DS1 was "naughty" DS2 would go out of his way to be extra good. I can't think of anything else I ever banned.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/08/2020 12:48

I banned it too. DD (who is incredibly well behaved and lovely!) thought it was great but her behaviour went off a cliff after watching it. Interestingly, SIL banned it for her ds too - he is normally what we might call a 'spirited' child and they definitely have a more relaxed parenting style than dh & I, and they still thought it was terrible.

@bookmum08

Or....Horrid Henry The Next Generation. First book came out in 94. He is about 10 years old so now he would be 36. What is 36 year old Henry up too?
Educational Psychologist or PRU senior teacher. He will be very inspirational, energetic and his services will be in great demand. His hair will still frequently be tousled. His own dc will attend a mix of Forest School and home education activities.
Streamingbannersofdawn · 11/08/2020 13:38

We love HH. I found it interesting that both of my children picked up that his parents aren't nice to him and favour Peter.

I once got the dreaded call into the classroom when picking DS up once though. Apparently he had called a girl in his class a "Mouldy old weasel". During the subsequent talk about this with him it transpired that he had heard the phrase in the HH book the teacher was currently reading them! (I did rather feel it could have been worse).

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 13:41

Saucery what's Peter up too?

VictoriousSockPuppet · 11/08/2020 13:48

@bookmum08

Saucery what's Peter up too?
whispers Drugs. shakes head sadly

Henry has married moody margaret, obviously.

MumsyMumIAmNot · 11/08/2020 13:50

My son loved HH 😂 I liked it to. Was better than that in the night garden crap.

Saucery · 11/08/2020 13:51

He got as far as Uni but didn’t have the resilience to motivate himself as he’d always been told he was absolutely the bee’s knees. Completely floundered in an environment where not everybody bolstered his ego and left after 2 years. Still too full of himself to contemplate getting any job he felt was ‘beneath’ him he lived at home for a few years doing bugger all and living off his parents. They indulged this for a while and made excuses that he’d always been of a rarefied, delicate disposition, but even they started to get fed up of him.
Several failed relationships later (who wants to live with a goody-goody Manchild?) he began to cop on to the fact the world did not, in fact, owe him a living. He now volunteers at his local food bank and supports himself mostly by doing gardening. The pleasure one gets from a hard day’s work with the feel of mud and slugs between your fingers was late in dawning on him.
Family get-togethers can still have a bit of an atmosphere, but such is Henry’s generosity of spirit that Peter’s occasional barbed comments never hit home now.

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 13:54

Saucery Grin that's brilliant.

Saucery · 11/08/2020 13:57

@bookmum08

Saucery Grin that's brilliant.
I’ve known a few Peters in my time Grin Grin DS can be anything he likes as long as he’s not a Peter.....
PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/08/2020 14:04

Hate him hes a whiny little bastard.Ds behaviour declined when he was allowed to watch that.We soon banned it!

TyroSaysMeow · 11/08/2020 14:12

DD loves the books. I tend to get distracted by a discussion of interpersonal relationships and how everyone's behaviour affects everyone else's, so they're quite educational in a way. And from HH she learned that a screen ban as punishment was totally normal and stopped totally kicking off whenever this happens.

We're still arguing over whether HH is going to marry MM when they grow up.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 11/08/2020 14:13

Peter is a whiny, smug little arsehole who I want to thump. I also want to thump his parents.

Golden Child much?!

Both my DC picked up on it too, I've now banned it purely because it gives me the fucking rage.

GoingtotheWinchester · 11/08/2020 14:14

Can’t bear it. My boys aren’t allowed it - only book I banned Confused

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 14:23

I can't see Henry and Margaret ending up together. Everyone probably jokes about them getting together ("girl next door type thing") and they probably have a awkward moment together at one point but they most likely agree that "no this is just wierd".

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 14:27

Actually Susan is probably in prison for snapping and running over Margaret in a road rage incident. Susan claims it was an accident yet witnesses say she strangely sped up the closer she got to Margaret.

Skysblue · 11/08/2020 14:28

My son’s school show this program regularly (rainy lunchbreaks etc). Made me so cross. Is shit behaviour to show to a child.

Covert20 · 11/08/2020 14:30

But surely that’s the point Of Horrid Henry? He isn’t a bad egg, his parents are unfair? My five year old can work that one out...

BertieBotts · 11/08/2020 14:34

It's very dated.

bigbluebus · 11/08/2020 14:39

DS loved these books growing up. They were all the more amusing to DS due to the fact he was at Primary school with a real life version of Henry and Peter characters and their dreadful mother.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/08/2020 14:42

Ah they've probably tried all the happy clappy parenting and now they are just at their Witt's end trying to get him to behave 🤷 social services wouldn't bat an eye.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 11/08/2020 14:45

I hate Perfect Peter.

cologne4711 · 11/08/2020 15:02

It's very dated

Why does that matter? Does everything have to be current?

Bizarre to ban it, there are so many other awful things like letting 11 year olds play computer games that re designed for 18 year olds plus but people are worried about a kid who actually wasn't even that naughty? Admittedly my knowledge is mainly from the film, which may have been a bit different to the books/cartoons.

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 15:09

cologne in the live action film Henry is actually quite sweet and a lot nicer.
In the cartoon and books he needs to be left in the woods to fend for himself or if we are lucky - eaten by wolves.
