To think Horrid Henry needs taking into care

What a god awful programme! a badly behaved child who gets constant negativity and no love and support from his parents, who clearly favor his brother, great viewing for kids!!

no wonder he misbehaves so much when the sun appears to shine out of perfect peters rear end according to his parents. peter used to grind my gears admittedly.

Morgan12 · 11/08/2020 09:34

Yep his mum is an absolute cow.

GinDrinker00 · 11/08/2020 09:36

YANBU. It’s banned in my house, even the books. It’s not often I ban things either I just find it full of negativity!

aceofspades987 · 11/08/2020 09:41

It's the worst. Perfect Peter can fuck off too.

Love51 · 11/08/2020 09:42

That's the point isn't it? That as a child you always think your parents are favouring your sibling? It is seen from Henry's viewpoint.
Disclaimer: I'm basing this on the books which are funny.
I have also commented to my child that Henry's parents are a bit unfair on him. Most parents in books are absent or flawed, otherwise everything would be like Topsy and Tim.

AlwaysLatte · 11/08/2020 09:43

Ha my two love this show, and the books. I feel sorry for Henry though - gets attention for only the wrong reasons.

heyfrog · 11/08/2020 09:43

It's a dreadful programme. Think it's the only thing we used to ban when my kids were little as we could see a real correlation between them watching it and poor behaviour.

steff13 · 11/08/2020 09:54

It's not a common show here (US) but it is on Netflix. My daughter and I watched a couple episodes and then turned it off. Henry's parents are awful to him! Is it any wonder why he's "horrid?"

Whatafustercluck · 11/08/2020 11:00

I've had this discussion with my 9yo ds (who loves HH) and his view is that HH's parents are awful to him and it's no wonder he misbehaves. There's a pocket money episode which exemplifies this.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 11/08/2020 11:27

"Taken into care" really? I grew up in care. Do you think his life would be any better in a children's home or with foster parents?

Saucery · 11/08/2020 11:29

The tv show is awful. Only one I ever banned. DS’s behaviour used to nosedive after watching it and not after anything else. The books have more subtlety, so they were ok.

sst1234 · 11/08/2020 11:31

Wow, the world really has gone mad, if this is what we take offence at nowadays.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 11/08/2020 11:31

I know we shouldn't take kids TV too seriously but Horrid Henry is banned in our house for this very reason - his parents are vile to him and constantly show open favouritism to Peter, I don't think it's especially nice for children to watch a character (albeit a cartoon one) being treated that way

GlummyMcGlummerson · 11/08/2020 11:33

I'm sure there was an episode where the teacher was coming round to meet the kids and the parents made them act differently and lied about their upbringing - definitely a red flag that IRL children's services would take an interest in

Saucery · 11/08/2020 11:34

No offence taken, sst. It was a crappy, shouty, unsubtle adaptation of a set of books the author said she wrote because she was never that sort of child and wanted to explore her inner ‘Henry’.
Hmm

Ishihtzuknot · 11/08/2020 11:34

I’ve said this since the first time I discovered it. His mum is a bitch who favours his brother and blames him for everything, the poor thing. Why anyone thought it good tv/book for children I’ll never understand. Yes I know it’s not real but the person who came up with the storyline is pretty awful as it’s sadly reality for some children and shouldn’t be put out there as entertainment.

sitckmansladylove · 11/08/2020 11:36

My ds enjoys the books - whatever keeps in interested in reading makes me happy but I do agree there are a few messages in there alright.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 11/08/2020 11:40

DD loves the books but we've had many conversations about how awful all the characters are. Poor Henry is nearly the best of them.

Bootskates · 11/08/2020 11:49

I have said this so many times! I do let DD watch it but we have had conversations about how unfairly Henry is treated.

The mum is awful. Any kid would act out with parents like that.

TheGreatWave · 11/08/2020 12:09

One day he will grow up and form a gang with Naughty Norman Price, can you imagine?

sHREDDIES19 · 11/08/2020 12:25

My boy loves the books and the TV programmes; I don't mind watching them with him either from time to time! Kids are capable of a bit of reflection on character flaws just as much as adults and this I encourage.

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 12:28

I suddenly have the urge to write a fan fiction of all the Horrid Henry characters as teens in some sort of dystopian society where it's very Hunger Games like or zombies roaming the streets.
Could someone with good writing talent do it for me please Grin

plus3 · 11/08/2020 12:30

We used to love the HH books - DC could always see how unfair life was for HH & were always shocked at how PP got away with everything ...both teenagers now & beautifully behaved !!

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 12:32

Or....Horrid Henry The Next Generation.
First book came out in 94. He is about 10 years old so now he would be 36. What is 36 year old Henry up too?

Soubriquet · 11/08/2020 12:34

My dc have started to eat chi this and I hate it

Peter is insufferable “I’m behaving aren’t I mum?” With such a smug look on his face

Whilst Henry causes complete havoc, he gets grounded...yet always seems to get what he wants anyway.

Perfect lesson for kids. Act like a dick and you will still get rewarded
