How old is too old to get your nose pierced?

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 10/08/2020 08:50

I am early 30s. Closer to mid 30s.

I have always wanted my nose pierced but never have as it may be frowned upon in a corporate environment. Covid has meant I will now have a career change and be out of corporate and into self employed but customer facing - young people mostly.

Would I be silly to get it done now or should I stop worrying about other peoples opinions because I'm too old for that surely???

I know plenty of people my age who had it done younger that still wear it.

Thanks @QueenOfToast

It's a very strange feeling! I think today is the first day they are able to do it.

@MonkeysAllGoWoo Did it hurt? I'm 35, I would love this done but I'm such a wimp!

OilBaron · 15/08/2020 14:30

It looks lovely by the way Grin

Congratulations and well done Grin

BluePaintSample · 15/08/2020 14:31

It looks fantastic Monkeys.

I had mine pierced when I was 20, loved it but lots of companies were a bit opinionated on the matter so in the end I took it out. That was 20 years ago though. Times have definitely changed.

DoYouLikeDawgs · 15/08/2020 15:14

@OilBaron it wasn't pleasant! It didn't hurt much. But there was an incredibly strange piercing. Your nose has very particular nerve endings doesn't it. It was over quickly. Now it's just a heavy feeling. Definitely recommend.

Finkelbraun · 15/08/2020 15:24

That looks fantastic... it's making me want to get mine (re)done now!

pasteldechocolateconchispa · 15/08/2020 15:28

Do it, screw everyone else, I’m 35 had mine for years, wear a small stud in it, I love it. I catch it in a towel occasionally and pull it out in my sleep when I’m stressed randomly, also have tragus, top of ear, 3 holes in ear and tongue, took my lip piercing out because I had to keep having MRI scans it was getting hard to get in for some reason

In my culture nose piercing (and tattooes) traditionally happens when a woman gets married or has a baby. So it’s fairly common for women in their 30s and even 40s to get them done for the first time.
TomHardysBitontheside · 15/08/2020 15:36

I had mine done when I turned 50. I love it and wish I'd done it sooner.

Mangofandangoo · 15/08/2020 15:36

Do it, you can always take it out 🙂

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2020 15:39

I got mine done at 45 but only kept it for a couple of years. It disappears quickly if you stop putting anything in.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 15/08/2020 15:56

... when the funeral director says "No, we're not doing that."

RuthW · 15/08/2020 15:56

I'd say about 120 is too old.

DramaAlpaca · 15/08/2020 16:04

It looks very pretty, OP.

I've long been tempted to get mine done and I'm in my 50s. The only thing that puts me off is that I had a rook piercing which refused to heal, so I wonder if I'd react the same to a nose piercing.

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 16:37

Just had a shower and towel dried my face. What a twat. It kills. Going to have to be really careful.

EugenesAxe · 15/08/2020 16:39

Ah sorry @DoYouLikeDawgs; if you are the OP no you definitely aren’t there yet! I just meant as an example that it’s something that is not restricted to any age in its suitability.

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 16:39

@GrumpyHoonMain that was a concern of mine. It reeks of cultural appropriation.

OP posts:
MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 16:47

@EugenesAxe that was I! I forgot I had name changed. Don't worry, I knew what you meant! Wink

An expensive day all in all! £65 for nose and helix x 1 with sparkly jewels. Then on the way back I moved out of the way for a police with sirens at a red light. My car was after the traffic light. I have since remembered some people have got fined for that (god forbid points, I can't take any more for working purposes) it was in the town centre so I think that there is a camera thing.

@MonkeysAllGoWoo - it looks great! I had mine done at 16. I’m 33 and I still wear mine (usually a small ring). Enjoy :)

TheGodmother · 15/08/2020 18:20

I was 51

Lovesabadboy · 15/08/2020 21:07

That looks really pretty, @MonkeysAllGoWoo!
Well done for going for it!

I wanted mine doing from about the age of 25, but gave too much thought to what 'others' would think. I used to wear a fake glue-on one for years.
Then, about 4 years ago, when I was 48, I just made the decision one day, booked the appointment for 3 days later and went and got it done!
I absolutely adore it and will never let it close up!
My only regret was not doing it in my 20s.
Funnily enough, no one really noticed because they all thought I had had it done for years anyway!!!

Enjoy!

Another part of your ear may heal without issue.

DD had a scaffold piercing done a couple of years ago (a bar across the top of the ear, 2 holes). 1 of the piercings rejected the bar, and over a few months we could see that the bar was moving closer to the edge of the ear until only a flap of skin held the bar. I helped her remove the bar. The 2nd hole was and is completely fine, she has a hoop in that one now.

I'm tempted to have a nose stud. I currently have 3 lobe piercings and a tragus piercing in each ear. I'm also tempted to have a 4th lobe piercing in each ear, I've got just enough room.

Happyadventurer · 15/08/2020 22:42

I’m 73 and I have a nose piercing. Had it done when I was 50. Never regretted it. If you like it go for it.

Happyadventurer · 15/08/2020 22:44

Oooh, jumped in a bit late and just seen you’ve already had it done. Well done!

80sballetgirl · 15/08/2020 22:45

51 when I had mine done!!!
