How old is too old to get your nose pierced?

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 10/08/2020 08:50

I am early 30s. Closer to mid 30s.

I have always wanted my nose pierced but never have as it may be frowned upon in a corporate environment. Covid has meant I will now have a career change and be out of corporate and into self employed but customer facing - young people mostly.

Would I be silly to get it done now or should I stop worrying about other peoples opinions because I'm too old for that surely???

I know plenty of people my age who had it done younger that still wear it.

Celebrated my divorce with a nose stud at 50. Plus a helix and traigus. Love them all. In a ‘serious’ job with no issues - why on earth would there be? Do it!

Joolsin · 15/08/2020 12:01

@Craftycorvid

Squashyhat. It hasn’t caused me any bother with my reading specs so far, and I’m always taking them on and off. Got my piercing done aged 51. Do it, OP! Grin
I'm also 51 (and a half!) and strongly contemplating getting one!
Bagshot · 15/08/2020 12:06

I'm in my early thirties and have had my nose pierced for a few years.
There are silicone flesh coloured piercing studs available if you ever felt the need to disguise it or had a scan.

Bagshot · 15/08/2020 12:12

Just to add, make sure it's done with a needle not a gun. Let it fully heal, before changing your piercing. My nose piercing (years later) will still start to close and heal itself within a few minutes if I take my piercing out. I wear a hinged tiny nose ring or a curved L shaped nose ring. The risk of it falling out is massively decreased.

QueenOfToast · 15/08/2020 12:27

I've ALWAYS wanted my nose pierced but after turning 50 in July I'd pretty much decided I was too old. However if @squashyhat can do it then so can I!

I haven't RTFT yet, but would be interested in recommendations of places to get it done. Central or North London are both easy for me to get to.

QueenOfToast · 15/08/2020 12:27

Also, @MonkeysAllGoWoo you're so young, you should definitely get your nose done.

Butchyrestingface · 15/08/2020 12:30

How old is too old?

When you’re in full rigor mortis.

Although, having said that, if you’re planning on an open casket... 🤔

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 12:31

I start a new job in 6 weeks. The team leader has it but she's Asian. I'm white. I'm outside the place now. Shitting it.

Got mine done at 28 and still love it now at 35. Go for it!

Whatisthisfuckery · 15/08/2020 12:33

Never too old imo. Nostril piercings hurt though, and they’re an absolute bugger to heal. I’ve had it done three times and never managed to heal the bugger. Septum piercings on the other hand look wicked, don’t hurt and are much quicker to heal.

If you do get your nostril pierced, DO NOT go anywhere that uses a gun. If they even suggest it walk away and go elsewhere.

zafferana · 15/08/2020 12:36

Whatever you do at whatever age some people will disagree with you. Do you care what other people think or would you rather be free to do what you want to do? Your choice.

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 12:40

Currently queuing outside the local recommended place.

15 mins as limiting people in and there is a group of 3.

I may shut myself.

Just paid for my helix x 2 (£45 🤮)

Worlds most indecisive person.

JammyHands · 15/08/2020 13:02

Blimey. I’m 58 and would if I wanted.

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 13:44

15 mins my arse. Just out.

Wohoo! 🥳 How did it go?

madcatladyforever · 15/08/2020 13:51

Never, I have a tiny one in and I'm 58. I choose a tiny tiny coloured glass one at work but you can also get a transparent plastic one if its not allowed at work.

MsEllany · 15/08/2020 13:52

I wouldn’t do it after I was dead but before is fine.

RiteAid · 15/08/2020 13:53

Any time between the ages of 16 and death it is perfectly acceptable. Outwith those limits I’d have to take a view. Enjoy!

Grapewrath · 15/08/2020 13:56

I got mine as a teen and still have it at 40. I have zero intention of ever taking it out

MorganKitten · 15/08/2020 13:58

I had mine done for my 30th. But please go to a tattoo shop for the piercing or a decent piercer, with a needle not a gun!

MaMisled · 15/08/2020 13:59

I'm 54 and two wee ago I stuffed a frozen strawberry up my nose to numb it and protect inside my nostril, and pierced it with a needle! Tiny gold and cubic zirconia stud in there and I love it! Obviously wouldn't recommend doing it like I did!

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 15/08/2020 14:18

@Butchyrestingface it was the strangest feeling ever. Didn't like it. Now it just feels heavy! I'm so glad I did it. I nearly wimped out but I text DP and asked what he thought. He said hasn't got an opinion on it. Sorted.

I didn't want an awkward conversation when I got home. Over the years I have turned up with two cars on finance as a surprise and many a tattoo or piercing. I didn't want to do it again.

@MaMisled that sounds brutal!!! Was it horrendous? You're very very brave.

That looks gorgeous @MonkeysAllGoWoo

This thread has totally inspired me! So I googled and found somewhere close to my work to have it done, but according to their website they're not doing nostrils yet. I will pop in on Monday to talk to them and look at the jewel options 💎
