To think schools should not reopen in Sept?

I think that schools should not fully reopen in September and instead be partially reopened to some years. It is just not safe enough to reopen yet. I'd say December at the latest for full reopening. If they can't reopen other smaller places, how can they reopen schools with 1000's of kids? AIBU?

Things have to go back to normal at some point. It'll be much worse for everyone if we don't.

No, Schools have to go back in a sustainable, safe fashion that minimises the risk of them shutting. As it will be much worse for everyone if we don't

FilthyforFirth · 09/08/2020 18:34

So home school yours then. So sick of this attitude. Kids are barely affected physically by this virus, yet are bearing the brunt of the side effects.

DS is only just turned 3 so not at school yet. But I really feel for parents of school age children. The virus isnt going anywhere and we simply cannot write off an entire generation of people keeping them away from education.

Your argument makes no sense. There will be no material difference from September to December. What you really mean is keep them off until there is a vaccine, which is bloody ridiculous.

Frazzledmum45 · 09/08/2020 18:36

I think kids need to go back to school in September as they’ve already missed out on far too much Education.

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 09/08/2020 18:38

@FrippEnos

I'm not saying they don't...

merrytombombadil · 09/08/2020 18:42

I can't speak for anyone else's kids, but my kids are better off at school (and they are the most precious thing in the world to me so I have read every bit of research I can lay my hands on to reach that conclusion)

ChocolateOO · 09/08/2020 18:43

I just think if it's safe to open then let us drop off and pick up the kids as normal.

What's annoying is they are acting like it's so dangerous that parents can't enter the playground, but they don't want is to worry about sending our kids. Not looking forward to September because it's far from normal still.

It's either safe or it isn't.

Part time would have been safer for the first term!

Ilikeviognier · 09/08/2020 18:45

It’s impossible to do “online learning” with a 5 year old, whilst simultaneously working a stressful and busy job. Lockdown was next to impossible as it was.

So yes schools need to go back in my opinion. People who don’t like it should keep their kids at home.

crimsonclover · 09/08/2020 18:50

I agree that opening schools is a risk - not to children and most parents, but to vulnerable parents, vulnerable teachers and grandparents. I simply don’t believe the narrative that of all the virus’ going around only this one isn’t spread by kids. There also seems to be a bit of a media blackout on cases in schools already. We need to weigh the risks against our own circumstances and make the choice that works for us. I’m happy to have my kids back but I totally understand others choosing not to.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/08/2020 18:56

There were more cases recorded in schools in July than care homes according to the very knowledgeable people on the data thread.

Livelovebehappy · 09/08/2020 19:04

Those parents who don’t want their DCs to go back to school should just home school. Problem solved. Everyone else can just get back to normal life.

Parker231 · 09/08/2020 19:05

There were only eight Covid deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

LaurieMarlow · 09/08/2020 19:06

What are children and working parents meant to do until then?

She has no answers to that.

Netflixbinge · 09/08/2020 19:08

@Devlesko I admire your confidence and ability to shrug it all off.
It must be easy being you.

Parker231 · 09/08/2020 19:11

Most of our work involves regular international travel which obviously we can’t do at the moment (am really missing my travel to clients). No one has been furloughed and we are all working from home. It’s now been decided that we would be better in the office to help team work on projects. This change has been delayed until the start of September to avoid for everyone’s children to be back at school. Wfm won’t continue after the start of the new term.

Maryjane3227 · 09/08/2020 19:14

Make it optional for parents, make sure staff with compromised immunity are safeguarded by being responsible from home for online/blended learning resources.
Get the kids back in wherever possible.
I'm a teacher. I need to get my Year 11s and 13s back on track. I know most students need and benefit from the routine.
Rotas/half days, anything but some kind of routine is needed.
This stand-off was bound to happen . The government are incompetent and the unions know it. Hopefully, enough teachers will be prepared to go back..

Sunrise234 · 09/08/2020 19:16

I did think there would be more staggered starts. I thought in secondary school year 11s and 7s would go back first for a week or 2 so more time can be spent on them and then opening it up for the other years.

luckylavender · 09/08/2020 19:21

@Sunrise234 - have you any idea how hard that would be for schools to organise? They're not magicians.

Noextremes2017 · 09/08/2020 19:23

What has our stupid fucking Government done to make people so fearful?

Oh yeah - lied to us like Johnson always does......

FrippEnos · 09/08/2020 19:23

Maryjane3227

If you are a teacher you will know that there is no "hopefully" about it.

Pretty much all of the teachers will be in with a smile plastered on their face pretending that everything is absolutely fine.

And those children that will struggle will be looked after pastorally and those struggling with the work will be given the extra hours after school (even thought they won't turn up and the parents will complain about getting home) and we will continue to do all of the usual to the detriment of our own health.

And yet people will still moan and think of us as the enemy like the good little sheep that they have been brainwashed to be.

FrippEnos · 09/08/2020 19:25

@EuphegeniaDoubtfire

I apologise, I jumped the gun slightly and didn't read fully what you posted.

Sunrise234 · 09/08/2020 19:29

@luckylavender
Most schools have those years go back a day earlier than everyone else and I thought it would be easier having less pupils in whilst the staff are getting the hang of the new rules.

Pixxie7 · 09/08/2020 19:33

Schools have got to go back, unless you have kept them in all the summer they are probably no more at risk than everyone else.

FrippEnos · 09/08/2020 19:36

Sunrise234

Actually it would be fairly easy for schools to do. But bojo and his team of untrained monkeys have stated that schools will be fully open from the start of term.

mbosnz · 09/08/2020 19:36

FrippEnnos, I know it must be hard, but please believe that there are parents and students that see the efforts and hours teachers put in, to their own and their family's detriment, and appreciate them with all their heart.

And get righteously fucking furious about how poorly schools are funded, how badly teachers are treated politically, and think it's totally shit. You are given a crap deal, and then blamed for not winning the jackpot with it.

FrippEnos · 09/08/2020 19:37

mbosnz

Thanks. It is appreciated just to be seen.
