To book Orlando for this September because its cheap?

Freestyleletsgo · 09/08/2020 10:22

British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

@cakecakecheese

My flight to the US in November has just been cancelled so book whatever you like it'll be unlikely to go ahead...
Some are cancelled multiple times due to not enough people on them, but they're still carrying on.
Parker231 · 09/08/2020 21:37

Op - do you have your ESTA?

cologne4711 · 09/08/2020 21:42

I thought non essential travel to the USA was currently banned

This, I would have thought, is the salient point. You can't go.

BA may well be flying but they won't be taking holidaymakers.

cologne4711 · 09/08/2020 21:44

By all means go and have a good time

Why do people keep saying this? You can't travel to the US for a holiday because they will not let you in!

uniglowooljumper · 09/08/2020 21:46

If you have a US passport or greencard, that's all they ask as you fly out. Similarly, if you are returning to the UK, they ask if you have a UK passport or permanent residency visa at check in.

Lelophants · 09/08/2020 21:48

Confused Cheaper then not going at all? What happens when you lose all your money and your insurance is invalid because you booked during a pandemic?

Have you see what's happening in Florida?

I need to go to bed.

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/08/2020 21:49

Are you a US citizen or do you have.a green card? I suppose things might change between now and September but right now, if you have neither of those things you won't get past immigration.

macaroniandpizza · 09/08/2020 21:55

I was meant to be in orlando in may and it got cancelled, i then rebooked for january 2021 but then cancelled that too as especially with it being america and the whole need for iron clad travel/health insurance cover i wouldnt want to be stuck over there by any means. I will go back one day as the parks et al will be there when i do but i want to be there to go back too

BritWifeinUSA · 09/08/2020 22:02

Unless any of you are US citizens or green card holders you won’t be able to board the flight as it stands right now and I don’t see that changing any time soon. My mum was supposed to visit us in May. We are assuming she won’t be here now until next year sometime.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 09/08/2020 22:34

I wouldn't go in Hurricane season.
My sister had a holiday to Florida booked for this November. It was cancelled. So she is hoping to go next April.

TitsOutForHarambe · 09/08/2020 22:47

Roll on November 3rd ...

Don't want to piss on anyone's parade, but I will eat my hat if Trump isn't given another 4 years. Can't see Biden beating him, and almost every President in modern history has done the full 8 years. Trump's support base are still going strong.

Houseplantmad · 09/08/2020 23:05

Don't book OP as BA will not fly there by then and you will lose your money or be given a voucher which is nigh on impossible to use.
In any case it's a foolhardy idea. We're all having to forgo things we usually do but that's the only way we're going to get rid of the virus.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/08/2020 23:09

Don’t waste your time, they won’t be flying there anytime this year.

mrsbyers · 09/08/2020 23:17

We were due to fly 4th Sept and flights all cancelled last week - foreign office still advising only urgent travel and very feee flights , cases on the rise in a lot of states - you’d be mad to even try

mrsbyers · 09/08/2020 23:18

Incidentally BA refunded this trip twice with zero issues , talk of voucher only is not accurate at all but advice above still stands

SoupDragon · 10/08/2020 00:19

I agree. BA refunded my flights and the cost of seat reservations with no hassle whatsoever.
SoupDragon · 10/08/2020 00:20

(I still wouldn't book to go anywhere though!)

notimagain · 10/08/2020 06:21

BA's refund system has (fortunately) improved over the last month or two.

BA have slowly been trying to increase operations to the States as there is some demand, though not a lot, from US citizens and the various groups/visa holders who have exemptions to enter/leave the US, plus there's a high freight demand (only carried underfloor on the passenger flights).

thepointsguy.com/news/ba-flights-july/

As stated upthread last I heard earliest possibility of Orlando being a BA destination again was winter season, which doesn't start until October.

AFAIK no sign of the ESTA scheme being up and running again in the very near future, so travel by Brits for holidays in the US is still a distant prospect.

Parker231 · 10/08/2020 08:14

We want to visit family in Colorado but can’t see that happening this year with the US having so many cases and no sign of getting on top of managing the transmission rate.

KitchenConfidential · 10/08/2020 08:26

The problem with getting refunds from BA is you have to speak to them and their phone lines are so busy/under staffed it’s taking days to get through.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 10/08/2020 08:46

I rang BA for a refund on August 1st. I had to wait about 20 minutes to get connected to a human being but after that the refund was very straightforward. I had a email confirming cancellation and refund whilst still on the line and the money was back in my bank by the afternoon of August 3rd.

KitchenConfidential · 10/08/2020 10:47

Cobwebs have you got a secret phone number I can have please, because I (and the many others recounting tales on social media) have taken hours and days to get through? In fact I am bracing myself to have to do it again today!!!

itsaratrap · 10/08/2020 10:48

Maybe it’s cheap for a reason?

If this is real, just don’t get some people.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 10/08/2020 10:58

It was just the number on the website. ( 0800 727800) I checked my phone records and I was on from 16.56 for 25 minutes. Perhaps it was less busy because it was a sunny Saturday afternoon?

India999 · 10/08/2020 11:02

My family live in Orlando. Don't go, it sounds horrific.
