To book Orlando for this September because its cheap?

Freestyleletsgo · 09/08/2020 10:22

British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

Seriously? One of the most affected country to another just for cheap holiday?

Chestnut234 · 09/08/2020 13:25

Here are the current projections for Florida. It looks like the covid situation is projected to worsen by December. The red line showing 60k deaths is based on continued easing of social distancing. The brown and green lines showing 15-20k deaths assume the reintroduction of mandates if daily deaths reach 8 per million.

God loves a trier OP. If you reckon you can beat Covid you should absolutely go just hoping you don't live near my town when you get back

Chemenger · 09/08/2020 13:39

We have visas for the US, DH works their normally, and we cannot enter the US at the moment. Green card holders can return from the U.K., but nobody else can go there from here (unless they are a US citizens).

giggly · 09/08/2020 13:40

Dont be so fucking ridiculous

wheretonow123 · 09/08/2020 13:41

Since you go there every year can you not give it a break this year and support some businesses at home?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 09/08/2020 13:42

@Wherrsmaclickypen

Have to say from the various similar questions and 'go for it' responses on here, there really needs to be a very urgent mindset shift from 'what are we allowed to do/what can we get away with/what isnt going to cost us money, disappointment or general inconvenience' to

'what more can I personally possibly do to help eradicate this deadly global pandemic*'

*Y'know, that thing with nearly 20 million confirmed cases and over 700k deaths? (Both highly understated, by all accounts)

I'm with Wherrsmaclickypen on this. Look at the Bournemouth (and other) beaches. And the North-West of England.
Figgygal · 09/08/2020 13:42

You would absolutely insane to go there
Have you seen the news on his Florida is impacted at the moment

Sunrise234 · 09/08/2020 13:52

If you don’t have a school aged child surely it would be easier to just wait until restrictions/quarantine have been lifted and go during term time when it is cheaper and quieter.

I personally wouldn’t book anywhere where there’s a possibility I may have to quarantine in that country for 2 weeks and then quarantine in my home country for 2 weeks after.

Sunrise234 · 09/08/2020 13:53

Great point!
It is not like it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for you.

uniglowooljumper · 09/08/2020 13:55

I'm a triple national but never understood why the fuck anyone would want to go to bloody Florida in Summer. It's so damned hot! Mercilessly hot and humid and it's hurricane season. Ever been through one of those? The power goes out and there's no A/C, it's shit. Wait and go next Spring when the weather is so much more bearable. Disney is shit, go to the keys instead ;).

Honestly, though, it's not decimated by Covid. I have family in a similar state it's pretty much business as usual in places and mask-wearing is at a huge percentage of compliance. It has an enormous population.

longwayoff · 09/08/2020 14:01

Don't forget the medical insurance. You could all cross your fingers as well.

user1468538201 · 09/08/2020 14:02

I've friends living there and they are scared, they tell us that the ignorance regarding the virus is shocking and that the residents are choosing to ignore what's happening around them. They are a married couple in their late 40's and early 50's, no children and so are packing up their home and returning to Ireland for 6 months to see if things improve. We were meant to visit them this year but obviously that's not happening now. They have a house here in Ireland to quarantine in and we will deliver shopping etc to them when they arrive. Their business employees a considerable number, between WFH and onsite managers they should be able to continue it but they certainly wouldn't encourage travel to Florida at the moment.

MrsKeats · 09/08/2020 14:03

Florida is basically one of the world epi-centres of COVID. Don't be daft op.

Chickychickydodah · 09/08/2020 14:04

Just No !

Floralnomad · 09/08/2020 14:04

Unless you are certifiably insane I really can’t imagine why you think this is a good idea .

Horizons83 · 09/08/2020 14:04

I'm afraid I cannot see things getting better in time for a trip in a few weeks. The theme parks are gearing up for shorter opening hours, I would not be surprised if they shut again.

You say you can get appropriate insurance but surely it would not cover anything COVID related, and as a regular visitor you know what a nightmare the cost of medical treatment would be if you are not covered.

I own a property in Orlando which I was meant to visit in March.. I am desperate to go but I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't be going until 2021.

I would only go last minute, and only if you are genuinely covered for all medical bills.

2bazookas · 09/08/2020 14:06

You must be crazy.

Coronavirus is out of control In USA, and Florida is a hotspot.

I've been to Orlando eight times during hurricane seasons and the worst we got was a tropical storm. Plus some of us like the Florida summer heat!

I would love notice more to book a cheap Disney holiday right now but I would wait at least a year. I imagine they'll have to close again at some point this year.

CuppaZa · 09/08/2020 14:10

I wouldn’t go to the US (especially Florida) even if they paid me
Absolutely ridiculous idea Confused

Confrontayshunme · 09/08/2020 14:10

I lived in Florida and have many friends there. None of them are using their season passes this year. If the people who live 20 minutes from the parks aren't safe, them certainly it isn't great for travelling 8 hours to get there.

kissmysass · 09/08/2020 14:13

I don't see why you're asking tbh.. USA aren't allowing Europeans in. Book as many flights and park tickets as you want, they won't let you board the plane.

uniglowooljumper · 09/08/2020 14:18

I've been to Orlando eight times during hurricane seasons and the worst we got was a tropical storm. Plus some of us like the Florida summer heat!

I lived in a hurricane zone (ah, the 'cone of uncertainty') for 24 years, only went through one hurricane - category 3 - and that was enough for me! Fuck that! I have a sister still there, been through several now, just not something I'd want to repeat. That heat is dire. Anyhow, the park is mask compulsory and no eating or drinking unless you are sitting down, and no ride photos unless you're wearing your mask. The idea of wearing one all day in 40 degree heat gives me the pips. I had a hard enough time breathing through one in that heat in a car park.

But alas, again, you can't fly in if you don't have a US passport or green card so it's a moot point for the OP.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 09/08/2020 14:20

We were meant to be going at the end of March for 3 weeks. Needless to say, it didn't happen and we were absolutely gutted.

That said, I wouldn't go again now if it was free. Hell, I wouldn't go if you paid me. The USA has completely lost the plot and Florida is one of the worst places in the world for COVID right now. While I don't doubt that Disney are doing as much as they can to limit spread, its still to much of a risk for me.

You could get it, and not get a bad case and your holiday is still ruined, you can't get on a flight back for weeks until your clear etc.

And if you end up needing hospitalisation, the lack of ICU beds right now is very scary.

Plus, is your travel insurance likely to pay out if you go, and end up in hospital. As far as I can tell very few British companies are at the mo for American travel, and believe me its not going to be cheap holiday then!

OMGisthisforreal · 09/08/2020 14:22

Regardless of US ‘rules’, the U.K. Foreign office stipulates only essential travel is permitted to USA
But perhaps the equally important consideration is that if you book flights with BA under the current circumstances it will permit you to exchange the tickets for the same monetary value to use within a specific timescale .... however, the danger is that nobody knows what price airline tickets will be next year so your £* spent buying tickets now when x amount gets your family to Florida may well not cover the inevitable price increase in flights when restrictions are lifted and it may price you beyond your budget then you could effectively lose those funds as you won’t be entitled to a refund (unless your specific flight is cancelled)
The airlines, especially BA will have to bump lost income by raising flight ticket prices, so beware!
