To book Orlando for this September because its cheap?

Freestyleletsgo · 09/08/2020 10:22

British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

OP would be allowed in if she could fly their now, she would just have to quarantine.
pussycatinboots · 09/08/2020 11:01

There is probably a very good reason it's cheap...😷🤒

Does your "appropriate" cover include COVID?

Thunderlights · 09/08/2020 11:02

This is exactly what Visit Orlando says "it's up to each visitor/tourist to evaluate the risk" and decide whether to visit or not.

Orlando has an R rate less than 1. Florida as a whole has an R rate above 1. Just book it OP.

AnnaMariaDreams · 09/08/2020 11:03

I wouldn’t. We’re hoping Virgin cancel our flights booked for October. If they don’t, we will but waiting it out at the moment!

GabsAlot · 09/08/2020 11:04

thunderlights afaik its essential travel to the US only

i dont thin holidays cover that

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 09/08/2020 11:04

Can you afford to lose the money?

Frazzled2207 · 09/08/2020 11:05

The flights just aren’t allowed in so the company just wants your money which it will then refuse to refund.
BA and other airlines originally said they would fly in July, then August, then September.
I would write off any transatlantic travel until the end of the year.
Even if you are physically allowed in, which is very doubtful, Florida is in a really dangerous situation right now, and you’d need to quarantine on the way back.

That's the "advice" it's a guide, OP would probably not be covered from an insurance point of view if she went now, if she could. However, she WOULD be allowed into the country.
Chickychoccyegg · 09/08/2020 11:06

surely you're joking?its obviously cheap for a reason, how ridiculous to even consider going to Florida in September, if it goes ahead, currently you need to quarantine when you arrive, and quarantine when you get back, with a vastly different experience than usual while you're there.

Thunderlights · 09/08/2020 11:06

Florida as a whole is in a dangerous situation. Orange County which Orlando is in, is NOT OP.

Zany15 · 09/08/2020 11:06

I had hoped that the pandemic might have made people think about how much better it was for the planet when the planes stopped flying. Clear skies, cut in pollution. But silly me being so naive. Clearly a holiday is so much more important to some people.

Mintychoc1 · 09/08/2020 11:07

If your insurance really does cover all eventualities, and you can easily quarantine on return if necessary, then go for it. But be prepared for it all to get cancelled or to be so “reduced” that it’s not much fun.

Frazzled2207 · 09/08/2020 11:07

PS US only allowing international arrivals into 12 airports is a red herring: that means Americans returning from abroad.
Right now NO FOREIGNERS are allowed into the US and there is no date for that to change.

SeaToSki · 09/08/2020 11:07

Unless you are a US citizen or green card holder, you CANNOT travel to the USA from Europe or the UK at all.

If you are a citizen or green card holder then you could fly to Fort Lauderdale and then quarantine for 14 days, and then drive over to the parks.

This started in March, I dont see it changing before September.

GabsAlot · 09/08/2020 11:08

thunder isnt that the point non essential travel is advised against by the FCO- as soon as you land they'll qurantine you so whats the point

mimbleandlittlemy · 09/08/2020 11:09

If a country is on the Foreign Office list for non essential travel only, whatever insurance you think you have won’t be valid. The US is currently listed as being a country that should not be visited unless travel is essential. Plus 14 days quarantine when you arrive in Florida plus 14 days when you get back. Sounds fun.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/08/2020 11:10

Personally, I couldn't think of anything worse than being stuck for several hours in a closed metal tube with recycled air with potentially 100s of strangers, even if strangers are wearing masks the majority of the time (bearing in mind they will have to remove them to eat and drink). And I'm happy to wear a mask in shops etc, for the DD to wear one to school if that means schools open fully... But not an aeroplane.

I fully understand why people are tempted by holidays at the moment. But can't see the attraction of flying.

GabsAlot · 09/08/2020 11:10

mycousins fil owns a hous ein florida even he cant go right now and usually he goes twice a year

Apolloanddaphne · 09/08/2020 11:11

Well I wouldn't but it is your money and your health so crack on if you want to.
