British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

Probably won't help travel in a months time but FWIW the signs are that the US State Department is moving away from a blanket ban on foreign travel for it's own nationals, so given how politics work and reciprocity who knows how things will shape up over the following few months.

www.state.gov/lifting-of-global-level-4-global-health-advisory/

There's certainly talk of more airports than the current gateway 12 being open to inbound international flights by/at the start of the winter season.

Ilikewinter · 09/08/2020 14:22

Haha,i needed a laugh today. You might be able to get a flight and insurance but your ESTA isnt valid so you wont even be getting on the plane!

Durgasarrow · 09/08/2020 14:30

Ummmmmm.... OP. Four words. Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Or do you just hate your life? Or does your Google not work? Or did you just wake up from a coma? Or is your first name Vector? As an American who loves her country, let me be frank. I would strongly advise anyone with a brainno, anyone, because other people in your country matter, too to stay away from our shores, especially the parts that are SWIMMING IN CORONAVIRUS until this monster is contained. Because you don't want to end up like us. This is a freaking nightmare. And you all deserve to live.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 09/08/2020 14:32

A friends son is at an American Uni and he apparently can not fly directly from UK to US to go back to Uni.
He is now having to travel somewhere that you can fly to US from and stay there two weeks before travelling to US.
I don't think it's as easy as just flying over on holiday.
I'd avoid it-rules and regulations and Covid are all in a constant state of flux at the moment and it seems unlikely to actually happen...

mina57 · 09/08/2020 14:36

regarding covid 19 yesterday we had almost 9000 new cases and thats only those able to get tested
187 deaths yesterday
regarding hurricanes the season runs more or less til nov and can extend past that
i have been thru many hurricanes and they are not fun
even if you were allowed to come would you risk being evacuated into a shelter with dozens of other people/heat/lack of food and water/no power
and our shelters are dealing with keeping prepared for distancing.when a storm comes and if there is major rain on top of the wind nobody goes anywhere
saw a an 800 pound motorcycle float a few years ago, parked in a garden as you call them, imagine if it was a human or even a car.
i have seen dozens of yachts and even a cruise ship turned over and piled on the beach
hurricanes are deadly, along with the virus we are fucked anyway
even if you were allowed to come why would you

SeasonFinale · 09/08/2020 14:37

So please do tell who is underwriting the insurance? Because .....

SecretWitch · 09/08/2020 14:42

Please rethink your plans. My son lives in Orlando. The Corona Virus is out of control in this state. He is just 23 but has several friends who have had the virus and have become very ill. One of his friends has had lung problems for three months. The governor of Florida is an idiot who cares nothing about the health of his citizens or visitors to his state.

My niece is in Miami with OH a toddler and a baby born in supposed lockdown, it is frightening for them and us.

A cousin of mine in Houston had to be evacuated during Hurricane Harvey and her video footage is scary AF! The water was rushing, the current was extremely strong. She and her husband were evac'd to the convention center and man, it was dire. Noisy AF, lights on all the time, choppers flying over constantly, state troops enforcing things. It was not a situation I'd want to be in.

Yy, the power gets shut down and often the water, too. The humidity goes through the stratosphere, it's shit, literally. The flood water is not only dirty, but host to water moccasins, venomous snakes, spiders, balls of fire ants, all sorts of debris. We 'got lucky' in that the storm didn't strike our windows directly but to the side, because if it had and we'd not boarded up (lots of people have metal storm shutters now), the windows would have been history.

The hurricanes also spawn tornadoes. Those are even scarier, IME.

clipclop5 · 09/08/2020 15:08

USA is the world’s covid hotspot and is coping extremely badly, i’d be surprised if flights to/from the UK were even running in September. We are thinking of booking Orlando for next summer and we are still hesitating as to whether things will be ok there or not by then, never mind in a month.

YABVVU and stupid to even think of going there at the minute. Go to somewhere in Europe, far safer.

Haenow · 09/08/2020 16:02

You won’t be let in! 🤦🏻‍♀️ YABU

gingerbiscuits · 09/08/2020 16:21

Seriously?? No. Just no.

TeaLibrary · 09/08/2020 16:33

I'm sorry OP. I dont think its a good idea at the moment. Maybe wait until next year or after ?

notimagain · 09/08/2020 16:36

i’d be surprised if flights to/from the UK were even running in September.

They've been running throughout the covid "crisis", albeit in very reduced numbers - some categories of travellers have been allowed to travel between the US and the UK.

Aragog · 09/08/2020 16:45

We were in Orlando and the parks for hurricane Charley.

In the theme park area not much was really affected tbh.

We had to leave the parks early - about 2pm. The parks reopened at 10am the next day, with all rides and attractions open as normal. The drive back to villa was a bit hair raising as the wind and rain really picked up.

We were in a villa and had no real issues. We lost the tv signal for a while in the evening and I think the phones while down a while. The next day some signs and lights on the roads were down etc too.

Worse part was that it brought all the ants indoors - to such an extent the next day we had to move to a new villa!

SecretWitch · 09/08/2020 16:56

@justasking111, it is all very scary😔. My son and his friends all work in the service industry and attend university. Nobody is really talking about CV19 and young people.

I’m sending best wishes to you and your family💐

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 09/08/2020 17:08

OP I live in the US and I wouldn’t travel here just now. The covid19 situation is a mess and getting worse daily. Cases are increasing in most states. Where I live we were in lockdown, then it’s gradually been eased, then restrictions tightened again, and now it looks like we’re heading back into lockdown again. Other parts of the country are the same.

DrManhattan · 09/08/2020 17:17

Another Darwin Award winner.
Also where are you getting that travel insurance from?? I would be carefully checking the terms and conditions.

HoldMyLobster · 09/08/2020 17:32

A friends son is at an American Uni and he apparently can not fly directly from UK to US to go back to Uni.

This is no longer true - students are in the group that is now allowed to enter the US.

uk.usembassy.gov/information-for-nonimmigrant-visa-applicants-following-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/

"[NEW] I have a valid student visa (F-1 or M-1). Can I travel to the United States?

If you 1) hold a valid F-1 or M-1 visa, 2) are traveling from the UK, Ireland, or the Schengen Area, and 3) have not been physically present in Brazil, Iran, or China within the last 14 days, you do not need to seek a national interest exception to travel to the United States. If your visa is still valid and you intend to resume your studies or undertake Optional Practical Training (OPT), you can travel directly to a United States Port of Entry to apply for admission. Admission to the United States is a matter for CBP officials at the U.S. Port of Entry and all travelers are subject to questioning. No assurances are given in advance."

notimagain · 09/08/2020 18:09

@HoldMyLobster..

Yep, ESTA isn't the be all and end all - there have been exemptions for various individuals entering the States on certain Visas throughout all this ..and those exemptions and conditions have been changing.

Section 2 to the original Presidential proclamation contained the original list of exemptions, it's fairly lengthy:

www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-coronavirus-2/

As you say the rule for F-1 and M-1 visa holders have changed since May.

Because Brazil has no covid at all and is coping brilliantly Hmm.

Flights have been running the entire time and also between the UK and Canada, all over, really.

cakecakecheese · 09/08/2020 21:10

My flight to the US in November has just been cancelled so book whatever you like it'll be unlikely to go ahead...

From The Telegraph - four months into a sustained outbreak, the US is about to hit an astonishing milestone of five million confirmed infections, easily the highest in the world.

Parker231 · 09/08/2020 21:19

Sorry - presses send too soon - Health officials believe the actual number is closer to 50 million, given testing limitations and the fact that as many as 40 per cent of all cases are asymptomatic.

Cryalot2 · 09/08/2020 21:31

Op go if you want. Re covid , you could catch it anywhere, yes you will likely have to isolate .
I think it is something we are going to have to live with. I also think that if you are meant to get it you won't be run over by a bus, so to speak.
By all means go and have a good time . Just take precautions and carry hand sanitizer and a face mask at all times .
