To book Orlando for this September because its cheap?

Freestyleletsgo · 09/08/2020 10:22

British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

@whatistheworld

OPs attitude and ignorance to travel restrictions into the US and quarantine on return to the UK is exactly why the UK is in the mess it is in re Corona/Brexit etc
It really isn't.
zafferana · 09/08/2020 12:35

One other thing to bear in mind with regard to entry to the US is that with Trump this ban on Europeans entering the country isn't based on real-time information about levels of virus circulating, they're tit for tat. So basically as long as Covid is raging uncontrolled through the USA and citizens from the US are banned from Europe, the opposite will be true of Europeans wishing to go to the USA. Roll on November 3rd ...

@Muppetry76

Morons.

Kids have already missed months and months of school, pandemic hot-spot, hurricane season, Disney parks looking VERY different, border controls if you can actually enter the country and quarantine going in.

Yeah, great idea OP, please don't bring any unexpected souvenirs back with you!

I'm very much on the we-can't-put-life-on-hold-forever end of the spectrum, but even I wouldn't plan to go to Florida this year. Sorry! Personally I would save the money & plan something a bit extra for 2021.

Nanny0gg · 09/08/2020 12:40
**@Muppetry76* Kids have already missed months and months of school,* the maximum any child has missed is 14 weeks, hardly months and months is it.
Some of my grandchildren haven't been to school since March.

It's now August.

It's got sod all to do with Brexit or etc. It's all about covid 19. No one should be travelling to the USA or anywhere else. It's a pandemic and no country is safe. Also we need to protect other nations. It's not difficult just stay close to home.

zafferana · 09/08/2020 12:42

That's true for most DC @Nanny0gg, but there have been the Easter holidays, May half-term and the summer holidays since 20th March, hence the 14 looooong weeks of actual missed schooling.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 09/08/2020 12:44

I wouldn't go if BA were paying me.

I don't think flights will go ahead, so don't waste your time having to mess about with refunds.

What on earth are you talking about?

Parker231 · 09/08/2020 12:47

At the moment you can’t get an ESTA to enter the States as non essential travel is blocked.

MindYourLanguage · 09/08/2020 12:47

Schools in Orange county dont go back until 21st August at the earliest for face to face learning. If parents choose to send their children back, it will lead to an increase, such as those seen in Georgia this week. I would at least wait until we see what happens with schools before I booked to go anywhere in FL.

justasking111 · 09/08/2020 12:48

Not an idea to say Orange county has low cases, what about the visitors what about the R rate where they are from.

Family in Florida, DN gave birth in lockdown, they go out twice a week masked up to shop, Dad is working mum, toddler and baby, are prisoners in a condo. There is a swimming pool in the centre they can only look at through the windows.

They are more gung ho in the US many refusing to wear masks, take any precautions because of their constitutional rights. It is truly terrifying for the sensible ones.

jessstan2 · 09/08/2020 12:53

I got this from gov.uk:

Travel to USA is subject to entry restrictions

British nationals cannot enter the USA if they have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran, Brazil or China within the previous 14 days
If you are eligible to enter the USA you must be prepared to self-isolate for up to 14 days after arrival
See Entry requirements for more information before you plan to travel.

Return travel to the UK is subject to self-isolation requirements

If you’re returning to the UK, you will need to:

provide your journey and contact details
self-isolate for 14 days
Check the guidance on entering or returning to the UK.
........

It's beyond me why anyone would consider it at the moment.

Parker231 · 09/08/2020 12:55

OP - do you have a valid ESTA?

BA have a bloody cheek then to take your money.
IrmaFayLear · 09/08/2020 12:57

Lol at schools being too dangerous but a plane flight back and forth to US is fine!

We go to Disneyworld most years. I think the precautions in the parks/hotels seem excellent (watch many vlogs and listen to several dedicated podcasts) but I wouldn’t get on a plane and trust to the fact that other people would be responsible about quarantining/self-isolating. I don’t believe that if someone had shelled out $$$$$$ for a Disney holiday they would stick to their hotel room or not go if one of their party had a temperature or had been exposed.

That they do, I don't know what the op is thinking of.

This. Last flew them long-haul about 3 years ago. They were rude AF, turned off all the lights on a day flight and then treated us all like nursery children who needed nap time. Then there was T5, never enough staff, no organisation (can't use self-serve kiosks if you're under 18 or with under-18s so lump all UK and EU nationals in one queue with everyone else from all over the world, with about 3-4 staff for 5+ international flights landing in one short period; have to go through security again so if you've bought anything at the duty free shops it's a problem, again not enough staff). NFW.
MorganKitten · 09/08/2020 13:04

I used to live in America, have a ss number, visa, family and friends there, I’d wait a long time. Firstly wait until Trump is out Second corona is rampant there.

tillytoodles1 · 09/08/2020 13:07

I'm not going anywhere this year, I'd be too worried about catching COVID.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 09/08/2020 13:08

What on earth has Brexit got to do with this?

Back to the OP. I don't think you'd even be allowed into the US. I didn't think ESTAs were operating at the moment for this sort of thing, without which you can't go anyway. You'd have to isolate once there, and then again at home. Do you really want to get on a plane with however many other people whilst there's a global pandemic? Florida is one of the worst places at the moment for it. And you'd have to wear a mask ALL THE TIME in the parks, even in the horrendous heat .....

There are so many other reasons that it's just not a good idea at the moment. And I write as someone who's had their 3 week Florida holiday this year cancelled because of Covid.

jessstan2 · 09/08/2020 13:09

Anyone would think it will kill people to not go away on holiday this year.

HannahStern · 09/08/2020 13:10

@Pillypocket666

If you want to go then go. No one else's decision but yours.
Not quite.

Since 16 March, it is not possible for British nationals to enter the USA if they have been in the UK within the previous 14 days.

SteelyPanther · 09/08/2020 13:11

I’m sure the airlines are happy to take your money from you.
Good luck getting it back.

ListeningQuietly · 09/08/2020 13:14

Florida has been decimated by Covid, why would you even consider going?
Decimated means killing 1/10 of the group
Nowhere has had that

But only an idiot would travel to Florida before November
