To book Orlando for this September because its cheap?

British Airways is insisting that it will be flying to Orlando on the 1st September however right know the US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
We usually go to Orlando every year anyway.
Staying onsite and the parks have massively reduced capacity.

The weather and hurricane season aspect wouldn't bother me.

Ordinarily kids missing a week or two of school wouldn't bother me. I teach and still don't really have much issue with the odd week a two a year, in non exam years, tbh. However this year is different due to already having missed being in school a lot, and the two week quarantine needed after.

Apparently no outbreaks in Florida have yet been attributed to any of the theme parks, though it could just be time.

I assume the theme parks are fairly okay places right now if you don't mind the masks and other restrictions, I've been to a theme park during recent weeks and felt pretty safe with the stuff in place - and would assume Disney and universal to be ultra careful in comparison.

Lots of insurance now covers COVID once more.

However, not many cover you for when foreign office advice is essential travel only. And there is no way I'd visit the US without fully covered insurance.

We love visiting America and love the theme parks, but I wouldn't be heading there right now. We are not even sure it's going to be likely for at least another year personally.

Latest from CDC www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-other-countries.html , you cannot enter the USA unless you fulfill certain conditions. A holiday doesn't count.

I love Orlando, we’re booked for October. I cannot see it happening. We had a cruise booked from Miami, which was cancelled a couple of days ago.

You need to wear a mask round all the parks (not just in the rides - which is not fun in 29 deg.

Silvercatowner · 09/08/2020 11:15

I wouldn't consider getting on a plane at the moment. The only 2 bouts if illness I have had in the last 5 years (I'm generally very healthy) were clearly caught on long haul flights - stomach bug and some sort of throat thing. And those were before Covid...

AlternativePerspective · 09/08/2020 11:15

This is just a windup right? I mean nobody actually thinks it’s a good idea to travel to America, surely?

I get that people want to go to the local, and even the beach over here in lovely weather. But wanting to actually travel to a country where the infection rate has hit five million this week?

Are people really that thick?

ajandjjmum · 09/08/2020 11:24

Don't rely on BA flights! They cancelled DD's return fight to Rome next week, just a couple of days ago.

And also cancelled our flight to Australia in December, but the return is still scheduled. They presumably expect us to swim there!

They'll take your booking and your money, then cancel, and tell you that you can have a voucher. You don't have to accept, but they certainly won't make a refund easy.

Wherrsmaclickypen · 09/08/2020 11:24

@Apolloanddaphne

Well I wouldn't but it is your money and your health so crack on if you want to.
But its not just the OPs health.

What part of this do people STILL NOT GET?

YABDU, op.

amusedbush · 09/08/2020 11:25

Florida has been decimated by Covid, why would you even consider going?

We were supposed to be in London this weekend for a short break and BA cancelled our flights from Glasgow two weeks ago, so I certainly don't think a US trip next month will go ahead!

allyouneedis · 09/08/2020 11:26

We had our Orlando holiday cancelled in July and know people who have had October holidays cancelled so I wouldn’t risk it myself to be fair.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 09/08/2020 11:27

I could understand this is the intention of the trip was a big family reunion or to visit a sick relation Or medical treatment or a job interview but to visit theme parks? Seriously?

Crack on OP.

Sparklesocks · 09/08/2020 11:27

It seems like a huge gamble - even aside from the Covid numbers out there and the risk at the moment it’s not looking likely you’d even be allowed in?

Lindy2 · 09/08/2020 11:29

In case you haven't worked it out it is cheap because most people don't want to travel to somewhere where the risk of catching Coronavirus is so high. Getting ill with a potentially serious virus isn't usually a holiday highlight.

Sunnydayhere · 09/08/2020 11:30

I suspect you won’t be able to go/come back seamlessly.

Monetary considerations.

Insurance companies will take time to repay, if at all and may well hide behind incomprehensible small print.

If you feel you can tie up your money for a while/afford to loose it then go ahead.

Health considerations.

You may well end up bringing back presents to your friends and relations that you didn’t buy in a gift shop.

#don’tkillgranny.

Other destinations are available. We’ve just come back from foreign climes - Wales. Really nice there, uncrowded, weather a bit iffy but no hurricanes.

Roselilly36 · 09/08/2020 11:31

I wouldn’t consider it tbh, someone I know has just returned from Europe, wearing a mask for 3hr caused her stress, US length of flight & back on the red eye, no thanks. I don’t think US will accept, non essential UK travellers in any case, of course the airlines will try to sell flights & holidays, they need the income.

ballsdeep · 09/08/2020 11:32

Florida is the epicenter in the US. No way would I risk it

jiffyjackfruit · 09/08/2020 11:32

It's most likely to be cancelled and the chances of you losing money are high, it's also hurricane season, your children (if school age) will be missing school time at the start of a school year and if none of that was enough we happen to be in the middle of a pandemic.

BeeTrees · 09/08/2020 11:34

Travel ban from UK.
Virus.
Airports.
Airplanes.
But if you can truly relax out there then knock yourself out and go

m0therofdragons · 09/08/2020 11:35

The UK isn’t flying to Orlando until October except for essential travel so how exactly are you getting there? We were supposed to fly out end of August but we’ve moved it to next year. The only options we had was re schedule for after 31 October or refund.

araiwa · 09/08/2020 11:35

I wouldnt go if it was free..

Thisismytimetoshine · 09/08/2020 11:37

US will only allow international arrivals into 12 airports and Orlando isn't currently one of them.
Do you not see any correlation between this and the fact that the flights are cheap? 🤣

themummyway · 09/08/2020 11:38

Florida is the epicenter of the virus in America right now. I was listening to a podcast about it a few days ago

The US has also just hit 5million cases of the virus.... I would steer clear, personally as it's a shit show over there and if you get sick? You're finished love

AttilaTheMeerkat · 09/08/2020 11:41

You are a UK citizen?. No citizens from the UK, Ireland or any part of the EU are permitted into the US at this time and there is no sign whatsoever of Mr Trump reversing such a proclamation.

Such arrivals that you mention in your initial post are only for returning US citizens and people with green cards.

You will not be travelling to FL in October in any event due to the travel ban. If that BA flight does run it will be operate as a cargo flight with all the seats taken out.

Wherrsmaclickypen · 09/08/2020 11:43

Have to say from the various similar questions and 'go for it' responses on here, there really needs to be a very urgent mindset shift from 'what are we allowed to do/what can we get away with/what isnt going to cost us money, disappointment or general inconvenience' to

'what more can I personally possibly do to help eradicate this deadly global pandemic*'

*Y'know, that thing with nearly 20 million confirmed cases and over 700k deaths? (Both highly understated, by all accounts)

Lemons1571 · 09/08/2020 11:43

BA want your cash in exchange for a voucher. Is basically how it’ll pan out.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 09/08/2020 11:44

Your ESTA application will be denied. No ESTA = no travel to the US.

Even now US citizens can only return home through designated airports; those are the 12 you referred to in your initial post.
