To think Eric Joyce’s sentence is woeful

He is a violent criminal and paedophile the who has just received an 8 month suspended sentence for downloading an image of the worst kind of abuse to a 12 month old baby. The story has gained little traction in the media or online, and I imagine it’s related to his partner, India Knight who is standing by him, despite having a underage daughter herself who is living with Joyce. She's written today about sexual politics at McDonalds. Surely the appropriate thing to do at the very least is have some time off? And he is still tweeting!

DateLoaf · 16/08/2020 07:58

Signed the petition, what was the judge thinking.

AlternativePerspective · 16/08/2020 07:58

While none of us would have him in our home with our children, we are still treading the well-worn path of berating the woman in relation to his acts. If a woman chooses to stay and support a paedophile then that’s no more than she deserves.

He is a despicable human being, that goes without saying. But her support for him makes her equally complicit, IMO.

dalecooper · 17/08/2020 11:04

I do not blame IK for EJ's actions. However I do have contempt for anyone that stays with a paedophile - male or female.

To think we are still expected to read her articles/columns and be amused or nod along or agree that she knows what she is talking about. The woman is disgusting if she treats it as nothing. She needs to see a therapist. He obviously needs to be locked away or have treatment.

SerenityNowwwww · 17/08/2020 11:58

She is accountable for her actions. I can’t see how she could argue that she is staying for the sake of her child. I couldn’t look at a man (in the same way) if he did this.

From what I’ve seen of the offences 17 seems a bit on the old side for his tastes.
He groomed a 17 year old intern, that he had known since she was 8 years old, when he was an MP

Nepotism will keep her job at the ST but her reputation is damaged forever. I can't imagine why anyone would take her opinions seriously again.

BusyDreaming · 17/08/2020 19:52

Eric Joyce’s crime is despicable and his sentence in no way reflects the sheer horror of what he has done and the harm caused to the children involved.

As for India Knight and the wall of silence from the British media, that is sickening also.
India Knight writes vaguely amusing books and columns, couldn’t be smugger while also having zero self awareness.

Her topic for discussion in last week’s Sunday Times was how much she ‘despises’ fake grass.
Seriously, there isn’t an editor, friend or fellow journalist who can’t point out that the use of the word ‘despises’ would be better applied to herself and choice of partner ?

To all her cronies and journalists ( and I think we all know you are - make up and feminism, tragically) who may cast an eye over Mumsnet , you really need to take a long, hard look at yourselves.
By your silence you are complicit in an absolutely appalling crime.
At least Julie Birchill sees it for what it is.

No amount of free eyeliner or drinks with the entitled, ‘elite’ , champagne socialists would put me in a room with Joyce or Knight.

I can only hope that the children in the video watched by Joyce are safe and receiving the support and love that they deserve.

Apocalypsebrow · 28/08/2020 10:42

Very well said

MsRinky · 30/08/2020 14:13

I read an interview today with Andrew O'Hagan in the Guardian, which unusually explicitly refers to his ex-wife India Knight in the context of Eric Joyce's conviction, but also states that their daughter now lives with O'Hagan and his second wife, not with Knight/Joyce. I was very happy to read that.

Lottapianos · 30/08/2020 14:23

Was just about to post the same MsRinky! And yes, I felt very relieved too

VestaTilley · 30/08/2020 14:45

It’s a disgraceful sentence and ought to be reviewed by MoJ.

I don’t know what India Knight can be thinking of.

nosswith · 30/08/2020 15:05

Who are the six of you who think the sentence is OK? Who don't think he should be in prison now.

MrsMcMuffins · 14/09/2020 18:17

So IK chose to live with this peado- criminal rather than her DDShock I cannot believe she still has her column in the ST. I refuse to read anything she writes anymore.
