To think Eric Joyce’s sentence is woeful

He is a violent criminal and paedophile the who has just received an 8 month suspended sentence for downloading an image of the worst kind of abuse to a 12 month old baby. The story has gained little traction in the media or online, and I imagine it’s related to his partner, India Knight who is standing by him, despite having a underage daughter herself who is living with Joyce. @langkaw

Julie Burchill has written some fantastic tweets about the silence from her hack colleagues. She's going to be doing an article on it.
Has she left Twitter? Can't see any pists
MrsKeats · 11/08/2020 16:27

It doesn't matter if she's 17. She's under 18. Hopefully she will go live with her dad if her mum stays with that monster.

I can see them

caramac04 · 11/08/2020 17:22

Signed. I actually feel like vomiting reading about his offences.
Every viewer of such abuse is absolutely as guilty as the abusers and the sentence should reflect that.

VinylDetective · 11/08/2020 23:20

@torpidcrystals

From what I’ve seen of the offences 17 seems a bit on the old side for his tastes.

That's not the issue, the issue is that India Knight's actions are saying to her daughter that it is acceptable to stay with an accuser.

Can anybody else hear the little voice saying "But I love him" - as said by many women to justify why they stay with/return to an abuser? Is that really something that she wants her daughter to internalise?

He's a despicable individual and she's a spineless fool. She has the money and the wherewithal to leave and isn't. I can only assume that she is putting her love for him above anything else. Pathetic.

I completely agree but that wouldn’t have social services all over them.
Patch23042 · 11/08/2020 23:37

It could be that IK has left him or will do so presently. The girlfriend of that nonce footballer whose name I’ve forgotten stuck with him publicly until sentencing. I don’t know why - but it’s obviously a thing.

Julie Burchill's article:

God, that’s no holds barred from Burchill. She burns bridges faster than they’re built, and thank god for it.

VinylDetective · 12/08/2020 16:07

Excellent piece by Burchill. It’s true what they say, you can see very clearly by the light of a burning bridge.

pctmmn · 12/08/2020 16:08

Great article. India knight I've got no respect for, her threads on tattle are interesting reading

KatherineParr4 · 12/08/2020 16:17

Great article from Julie Burchill. She isn't someone I like or admire, but I totally agree with her sentiments.

Saggingninja · 12/08/2020 16:45

Her daughter's father is the writer, Andrew O'Hagan. If I were him, and she refused to leave EJ, I'd be round there with a suitcase faster than a rocket.

dalecooper · 12/08/2020 19:52

Christ is that what it was all about? She had decided to stay with him. Well it would seem that some women can forgive pretty much anything.

I would have packed my bags and been out the door - or rather had him out the door. Can you imagine sharing a bed with a paedophile?

Absolutely revolting.

So much for India being a strong woman. A strong woman would have nothing to do with him and his seedy vile habits.

dalecooper · 12/08/2020 19:56

Also just read Julie Burchill's article and bravo to her. Could not have said it better myself (otherwise would be a famous journo type).

cologne4711 · 12/08/2020 20:04

Wow I had no idea about the case or that it was India Knight's partner. Just been to look at the comments on her "townies moving to the country" article - lots of Times readers were obviously much more well informed that I am!

The sentence is pretty shocking but what's new.

whitershadeofpale · 12/08/2020 23:20

Wow, that JB article certainly hits a lot of nails on the head. It’s a shame that she seems to be really relishing sticking the boot into IK and some comments are too far (particularly the one about her gay ex-husband) as all the stuff about EJ, nepotism wokeness, trans activists and media silence is spot on imo.

OP posts:
dalecooper · 13/08/2020 08:48

Not that I was ever particularly a fan of IK but the fact that she is brushing it under the carpet really turns my stomach. I shall steer clear of her and her cronies from now on - they are a bunch of hypocrites.

Saggingninja · 13/08/2020 18:22

In 2007 Chris Langham was convicted of viewing child abuse images, including the assault of an eight-year-old. He was sentenced to a ten-month custodial sentence (although he only served three) and the Judge said he didn't consider him to be a predator.

That may be by-the-by but if Langham got a custodial sentence why has Joyce been given a light slap? Maybe Langham should have been married to a columnist with contacts?

Gingerkittykat · 13/08/2020 18:37

What does Eric Joyce do now? Is he employed or have his employers turned a blind eye to his offences?

dalecooper · 13/08/2020 20:14

Saw him in Aldeburgh with IK a couple of years ago. Spoke to both of them in a shop. Makes me feel sick now.

BananaPop2020 · 13/08/2020 21:59

@Saggingninja because in 2007, this particular crime was far more unusual. Now, is is sadly commonplace and the vast majority of people that are convicted won’t get anywhere near a prison sentence.

VinylDetective · 13/08/2020 22:03

@Gingerkittykat

He’s got an Army and an MP’s pensions. I imagine their house belongs to her, she sold a north London pile when they moved to Suffolk.
DarkDarkNight · 14/08/2020 00:48

Could she be waiting for the dust to settle before throwing him out - why would she?

He was first arrested towards the end of 2018, that would have been the time to leave him if she had any moral compass whatsoever. She could have released a statement distancing herself from him, said she condemned his actions. I am truly disgusted she appears to be sticking by him and has allowed their relationship to be used to somehow try to mitigate what he has done.

The media in this country is rotten to the core. Any other famous person would have been hauled over the coals for these offences but the reporting has been curiously restrained. Think of the coverage of Ian Watkins or Rolf Harris, it is in stark contrast. The British papers missing an opportunity to tear down an ex labour MP? When does that ever happen? It helps that India Knight’s step father is high up on the board of News Group and she writes for The Times.

This was a serious crime, a video of the most serious category of child abuse that he kept on his computer and accessed for years. Internet searches for young girls. I despair that this has not attracted a custodial sentence. I really hope he hasn’t just been allowed to live in the same house as a vulnerable 17 year old girl.
