Holiday cottage asked to take rubbish to tip?

We have just begun a UK SC holiday as a family. Upon arrival we were asked to dispose of all our rubbish at the local tip? The owner has said this is part of their covid measures. DH are a bit confused as to why we cant use wheelie bins and let bin men take stuff? We can't understand why we need to take time out of our holiday to visit a tip. Also our local tip is stringently checking people's proof of addresses if you want to access it and it doesn't take general household bins (to my knowledge) only stuff that can be recycled including electronic goods, white goods etc. I know we have driven 2.5hrs from our area to be on this holiday so perhaps this area has very freely available tips. AIBU to think this request is OTT and grossly inconvenient for us? Wanted to check with others in case we are being total CFs for querying this.

Use the bins, don't bother going to the tip.

Yes, ours is still book only with proof of address, and you can't anything sooner than a week ahead.

That's bonkers. Not necessary plus you almost always need to be a local resident to be allowed access.

Query it. I'm asking people to put their rubbish in the wheelie bins outside the holiday house, so the cleaner doesn't have to have to do it. That's so she's limited in what she has to touch. Having to take it to the council tip doesn't make any sense at all.

Are there normal wheelie bins outside? I'm wondering if for some reason the landlord isn't allowed to use them, or is charged a fee or something, and is trying to avoid this.

But then this is Mumsnet where a lot of people think it’s reasonable to do a 3 hour deep clean after a weekend stay at a holiday cottage including mopping floors so you might get some odd responses

Nah, dont do it.

I’ve been to cottages where you’re asked to take your recycling to the nearest centre as the owners either don’t have the facility or don’t want to pay for it, but never asked to take all the general rubbish away with us.
I’d be binning it so the cleaner doesn’t have to touch it, but not taking it away with me.

@ScribblingMilly well yes that's what DH and I were saying! We are more than happy to empty all the house bins (kitchen. bathroom etc) into wheelie bins before we leave- in fact we tend to do that as standard anyway whenever we go SC. This request just seems so odd! Unless they like the wheelie bins empty for new visitors and so usually get cleaner to remove wheelie bin waste? Property let is Fri-Fri so there would be some waste in wheelies from our day of departure, unless it perfectly coincides with bin day...

Thanks everyone for your response- glad we aren't being unreasonable to query this further. This is our only holiday this year (I know that in current circumstances we are v lucky to be getting one at all) and I am really not happy to be spending time driving around with DCs in car hunting for a tip we may not even be able to access.

Did it state this at the time of booking? If not then tell her jog on.

No, I wouldn't be doing that. If you can use the wheelie bins at home, you can use them on holiday.

@LagunaBubbles there's not deposit (that I can recall paying anyway!) as it's an airbnb. So hopefully that won't happen...

@Royalbiscuit no it didn't. Owner is super lovely so I am very loathe to cause any awkwardness/conflict as we do just want to enjoy our holiday... but it seems general consensus is in line with our thoughts that this is a ridiculous request.

That's very over the top and I echo others in thinking you wouldn't be able to access the local tip anyway. If you're staying for a week that's potentially quite a lot of rubbish. I wouldn't be wanting to cart smelly food waste /bin juice around in my car either. Emptying the bins into the wheelie bin is a perfectly reasonable request, this is not. There's no way I'd do it.

How bizzare! I'm bemused at being told we must clean our cottage on departure, strip the beds, leave it as we found it etc because of Covid, whilst vacating an hour at 10 am. I'm wondering if I should set my alarm for 5am.

Are you sure the wheelie bins belong to the property?

A friend of a friend's parent has a holiday cottage that they don't pay council tax on I believe and as a consequence they so not have bins to put rubbish in. Or it's something like that, can't go into detail as potentiallt outing, but essentially, people staying there need to take their rubbish away themselves because the owner is too tight to pay for a bin collection. Not sure if property is air bnb, holiday cottage or just used by family.
