That's it really! I'm not one of these people who scours the internet all day for competitions to enter, but I do enter quite a few and have only ever won a voucher for sports clothes, free tickets to a local attraction and a Legally Blonde wig!! Is it all just a big con/data harvesting exercise or do people really win amazing prizes?

A bike at secondary school. We all had to do an afternoon of sporting activity and be sponsored for it, and for every £5 we raised in sponsorship money we got one ticket into the prize draw. I was notoriously not sporty and had only managed to get my mum and dad to sponsor me £5 between them, so a lot of people who had really put the effort in were pissed off when I ended up winning the bike.

I won 1 can of %5 beer in a church raffle when I was 8. My DM snatched it off me, I was gutted. Then my DF took it off her and gave it back to me, letting me drink it. I was over the moon.
I took a mouthful and had to bin it because it was disgusting. Clearly DF knew this Grin

I put my business card in one of those vase things at an exhibition and won 500 pounds and half a day with a personal shopper at Fenwicks! Was that a fun day. They even provided coffee and fizz.

Jaxhog · 05/08/2020 15:47

I also won (different time) a catering box of special edition dark chocolate and nougat mars bars in a raffle.

Which was great. Except I was the person who persuaded Mars to put them in the raffle!

I also won a competition for the local FC where we had to design a Christmas card. My design was created and put on sale. I received 10 of the finished product to give to family and friends.

I also won the Dux in primary 3. I received a hardback book of classic stories which my DM took from me and wouldn't allow me to have incase I wrecked it. Many decades later its now in my loft in prestige condition, still never been read.

Another time, also on business, I won 4 seats for the O2 in a company's box to see anything we wanted. I took friends to see the Cirque de Soleil doing Michael Jackson. Food and drinks were included too. Brilliant!

I think that's it

As a child I won a book token in a competition in the local paper and they sent a photographer to capture the moment when it was presented to me which seemed a bit much!
As an adult I have won an Easter egg in a raffle and a bottle of wine in a pub quiz both of which were great prizes!

Notgoingouttoday · 05/08/2020 16:00

A wonderful two-week holiday, all expenses paid.

Miranda Hart's autobiography signed by her, it was on here. You had to write a funny incident prior to her Q&A and she picked mine, I wrote about nearly drowning in Portugal HmmGrin

A ticket to see David Bowie st the Marquee Club in Soho, only about 300 people so it was a really close view. I was about 15/16 and in heaven Smile

Popcornface · 05/08/2020 16:44

I won a danger mouse annual for making the best snow flake out of cut out paper.

I came second in a poetry competition when I was 16. There was a big awards do. My prize was a book and money. But it all left a bitter taste, because in my opinion I should have won. The winner wrote his in Urdo with an English translation. It was about sunny days ffs. (Mine was a much darker subject.) All these years later I am bitter about it.

fairydustandpixies · 05/08/2020 16:50

Several meals out, a CD, a photoshoot, fish n chips, tickets to a local attraction - all from a local radio station over a period of 12 months when I got a bit obsessed with entering every competition they ran 😂 I'm convinced I heard the sound of their eyes rolling every time I got through on the phone!

YoTheGinPussyOnThigh · 05/08/2020 17:25

My aunt won a trip for 2 to Venice on the Orient Express and two nights there.

My best prize was from my local newspaper £500 to spend at at a London antique fair. I bought 2 pictures and as this was over 30 years ago they are worth considerably more than £500 now.

Also my consolation prize Shark from Ikea - thank you Mumsnet.

JunoJigglewick · 05/08/2020 17:47

I've won a bagpiping lesson in a raffle (organiser then queried how i had managed to attend the event Hmm) .

Best prize ever possibly a papercut picture that is now on my living room walk. Kids love the weird woodcut reindeer thing I won a year later. It has 3 legs (mum ran it over) and one eye. It has a unique charm now.

WombOfOnesOwn · 05/08/2020 19:08

All-expenses paid trip to Walt Disney World for four people, complete with airfare, all food paid for (abundant food, we could never have eaten it all), airport transfers, even free souvenirs outside our hotel room doors every morning.
