To think that it's really hard for someone over 35 to bake?

I just can't seem to cover my eye bags? See pic.

I've tried putting foundation on but not by my eyes, then using concealer around the dark bits but it always goes crepey and then adding loose powder on top of that basically equals crusty eye area. I love watching MUA stuff and they seem to do it no problem but I look terrible.

Snorkeling goggles?

kateluvscats · 03/08/2020 18:17

No one over a certain age should wear powder unless you like the flakey creased look

gobananasgo · 03/08/2020 21:29
Biscuit
Wilko312 · 03/08/2020 23:38

ocado?

Sooverthemill · 04/08/2020 09:15

@Wilko312 it's a biscuit, it's a symbol of sympathy

HeronLanyon · 04/08/2020 09:46

sooverthemill once I realised it was not a flower but a biscuit (took some time!) I’ve understood and definitely seen it used as ‘that takes the biscuit’.
I may have risen to the bait here ?? Confused

PregnantAndTiredMum · 04/08/2020 09:49

It's definitely not a symbol of sympathy.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2020 09:58

The biscuit is a sort of passive-aggressive 'no comment'.

It came into being after Gordon Brown did the web chat and wouldn't answer what was then a standard question "what is your favourite biscuit". This may have been one of the earliest occasions when Mumsnet got mentioned in mainstream media.

MrsToothyBitch · 04/08/2020 10:14

I also thought this was a cake thread. I was panicking at my supposedly rapidly decreasing number of years left with a whisk in my hand. Grin

Agree on the baking- looks incredibly unnatural away from lit-for-recording-or-photography lighting. I'm 30 but I don't like my under eyes. Good moisturiser, and pinky concealer works best for me. I do use quite thick foundation but I have very thirsty skin no matter what I put between it & the make up so I need a thicker one to have some staying power! Was gutted when Laura Mercier stopped doing their pinky-toned paint pen concealer, that was the best ever for popping over & under make up!

Sooverthemill · 04/08/2020 10:18

Ah well there you are me thinking the best of people. Been on MN since 2006 and I thought it was nice. I'd like a jammie dodger myself

Sooverthemill · 04/08/2020 10:18

Yes I remember the Gordon Brown chat. And the biscuit comment but I still didn't think it was unkind. I am old

lifestooshort123 · 04/08/2020 10:24

Baking biscuits??
Silly question but, as covering things up with makeup often draws attention, could you learn to live with the bags?

Ninkanink · 04/08/2020 10:28

The biscuit can signify sympathy, particularly if offered with a cup of tea and/or flowers. However most of the time it’s definitely not sympathetic!

ConfusedDotty · 04/08/2020 10:31

Thank God this thread is about cosmetics.

I had to have a quick glimpse at Sky News to make sure this wasn't yet another lockdown/Coronavirus restriction aimed at the over 35s. I thought Boris had well and truly lost his marbles for a bit.

HeronLanyon · 04/08/2020 10:31

Oh thank god about the biscuit. I’ve never received one on here (cue loads now!?) but I’ve engaged with them when someone has in my view been wrongly issued with one. How embarrassing all round it could be if that had been wrong. Except some will be issuing them as sympathy judging by this thread.

Of all the emojis to have uncertainty about !

Sooverthemill · 04/08/2020 11:34

Thank you @Ninkanink I'm pretty certain they sued to be sympathetic in the olden days before my brain fog set in.

Sooverthemill · 04/08/2020 11:36

@HeronLanyon I tend not to use emojis because the are so small and I often simply cannot see what the age and also I do not know what most of them mean. I get the smiley face ( I used to have smiley patches in my trousers when I was 13 in the 1970s) but the other ones? No idea

Looking at the bottom of this page a biscuit means no comment. Who'd have thought? The green one I thought meant you felt sick...

Ninkanink · 04/08/2020 11:51

@Sooverthemill it doesn’t even really mean no comment anymore, I don’t think...it’s more in the vein of ‘your opinion is so utterly ridiculous/your position is so completely unreasonable that I’m not even going to dignify it with a response’. Or something like that.

augustusglupe · 04/08/2020 11:56

I was coming on to talk about Domestic Science lessons and why on earth did they stop them...but saw the thread is about makeup!?

MotherofPearl · 04/08/2020 12:03

@Ohnonononononono Grin

burritofan · 04/08/2020 12:11

In the context of this thread, the Biscuit actually means "try glueing two jammy dodgers beneath your eyes to detract from the bags", and should actually therefore be two BiscuitBiscuit

Ninkanink · 04/08/2020 12:41

I want jammie dodgers...
