To think that it's really hard for someone over 35 to bake?

I just can't seem to cover my eye bags? See pic.

I've tried putting foundation on but not by my eyes, then using concealer around the dark bits but it always goes crepey and then adding loose powder on top of that basically equals crusty eye area. I love watching MUA stuff and they seem to do it no problem but I look terrible.

Apparently salicylic acid on the under eye area before you apply any products is the key!

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2020 15:10

apparently it's supposed to give you a ceaseless under eye

Now I'm trying to work out if that's an autocorrect or what the OP actually meant to write. It looks like English words arranged into a sentence, but I have no idea what it means.

But I agree that this new craze for trowelled on make up looks ridiculous in real life and natural light. Don't the people who do it realise that they're frightening people every time they go out in public?

Grin sorry creasless!

Yep, I thought it was about middle aged cake makers too.

I am 49 and I make an excellent Vicky sponge.

Hoppinggreen · 03/08/2020 15:13

I’m 48 and my orange scones are much sought after

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2020 15:15

Needless to say, I also thought it was about the type of baking that leads to sweet things to eat.

I'm 46 and my Millies cookies dupes are legendary.

Pukkatea · 03/08/2020 15:16

Baking is absolutely not for anyone in real life - it's for instagram (and originally drag). The more product you put under your eyes the more dry and lined they will look. Pointless technique promoted by instagram makeup artists to try and sell you 'baking' powder.

EggBoxes · 03/08/2020 15:18

I think I was 35 when I stopped wearing make-up.

Fairylane · 03/08/2020 15:18

I’m late forties and I have tried it successfully. You need to use a rich moisturiser under your eyes before you start. It works for me: good for photos/tv when you want heavy makeup. It’s not the look I prefer on me in real life and far too much faff in any case.

I bake cakes a lot too.

Di11y · 03/08/2020 15:20

Perhaps more suited to the style and beauty board, no idea what you're taking about!

I'm now imagining mothers of teen/young adult DDs getting all confused when their DDs start talking about buying or using baking powder, pointing them towards the baking cupboard, offering to add some the Ocado order or anticipating the lovely cakey creations that their offspring are about to come up with.

Only to be disappointed when all the DDs produce is some eyerolling from behind the clown make up.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 03/08/2020 15:20

Its really hard for someone over 35 to bake without putting on weight.

Polnm · 03/08/2020 15:22

Kitchen aid and aga - perfect every time

1WildTeaParty · 03/08/2020 15:22

Aged brain struggling to keep up. I now get 'baking' but am worried about @Hoppinggreen s 'orange scones'. Is this 'baking' with a tanning agent? What part of the face is a scone?

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 15:23

Me too !

CrystalMaisie · 03/08/2020 15:23

I bake cakes and my oven is really filthy, they are still delicious.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/08/2020 15:24

I noticed about a year ago how old and wrinkly I look when I do this now ( I'm 45 )
Less make up is the key!
FWIW a little bit of the right coloured blush really detracts from eye bags

Ninkanink · 03/08/2020 15:25

Mmmmm I fancy a banana, date and walnut loaf...

Nacreous · 03/08/2020 15:25

@BarbaraofSeville Do you have a recipe for the dupes? They sound amazing!

I am 26 and also thought this was about cakes. I thought maybe it was going to say you couldn't learn to bake after 35?

megletthesecond · 03/08/2020 15:26

I also thought it was about cakes.

IRL people don't look good with flawless make up though. It only looks good in photos.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/08/2020 15:27

I had no idea what you were on about but Yeah, I've had the same problem since about the same age.

ginghamtablecloths · 03/08/2020 15:28

I'm of the opinion that where make-up is concerned, especially under the eyes that less is more. A little dab Oil of Olay then light foundation is all that normal women require surely?

I'm 65 and my cakes are fab I tell you.

Ninkanink · 03/08/2020 15:31

Oh also, please stop obsessing about supposed eye bags and doing ridiculous things with powder to try to counteract them.

Firstly, you hardly have any, and secondly, what’s actually wrong with them? You’re not supposed to look 20 years old when you’re 35/45/55+ and more importantly, women of whatever age do not have to pay a perceived ideal attractiveness tax in order to occupy their space in the world!

I really do fancy a cream tea now, with freshly baked scones!

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2020 15:34

Indeed it does.

@Nacreous

I can't remember where I got my recipe from, but either of these look very similar.

www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/frozen_chocolate_chip_95194

www.bakingmad.com/recipe/copycat-millie-s-cookies

Obviously I don't bother with fancy branded anything and just buy it all from Aldi or Lidl and get their cheapest value 30 p a bar chocolate and chop it up instead of chocolate chips, because I'm a cheapskate.

Sometimes might substitute about 30 g of cocoa for the same amount of flour and/or use white chocolate instead, depending on what I feel like.

Lots of heavy makeup never looks good in person.
Is contouring still a thing? - that looks good in photos but terrible in real life. As soon as the person turns their face all the shadows are in the wrong place!
