To think that it's really hard for someone over 35 to bake?

I just can't seem to cover my eye bags? See pic.

I've tried putting foundation on but not by my eyes, then using concealer around the dark bits but it always goes crepey and then adding loose powder on top of that basically equals crusty eye area. I love watching MUA stuff and they seem to do it no problem but I look terrible.

Packing on concealer then lots of powder under your eyes looks terrible in real life.

I’m 52 and I’ve just baked a seed cake, never made one before. It looks good hope it tastes as good.
I’ve given up worrying about eye bags!

Pro MUA here -
Baking makeup is totally not necessary unless you're preparing for stage, filming or a photoshoot. It (along with other trendy makeup stuff) is only becoming prevalent nowadays because of social media and 'influencers'. If your concealer is going creasy and crepey its because either: you've not prepped your skin with a moisturiser or primer first, you're using too much, it isnt the right type for your skin, or youre putting powder on top.

I think the only way to actually get a creaseless under eye is to be an anime character.

You time will be much better spent making a batch of scones.

I know zero about either makeup or baking cakes, and even I know that the solution to OP's problem is haemorrhoid cream. Not that I can actually see any bags under your eyes, OP.

Try a non bake cheesecake. Effortless. And a much better use of one's time than trying to "bake" your eyebags/face etc

I clicked on this thread to say WTF about the over 35s being unable to bake (cakes), but then I stayed to recommend pile cream (Anusol), but i see someone's beaten me to it.

Coating yourself in a layer of makeup so thick you need a chisel to remove it, isn't a good look on anyone tbh.

A good photographer / camera man with studio lights might be able to make it look passible (especially with post production editing) but in natural daylight it looks crap.

I'm 40 and for a while haven't been able to cover bags without concealer settling in lines (I used to just put foundation everywhere and that did the job). I now just use this under my eyes - a really light covering and no foundation seems to help. I'd rather a little natural colour comes through than I look overly made up and wrinkly under my eyes.

But your bags do not look at all bag-like and your eyes look great as they are!

@BarbaraofSeville

Thank you! Can't wait to give that a try.

I too always ignore brands and use chopped up value chocolate instead. I actually think it's nicer to have chunks anyway!

@Wilko312, I think that if you have reached the age of 35, you'd be old enough and wise enough to know that it doesn't really work other than for the camera.

I'd worry more about your hair dye and eyelashes.

You don’t have bags under your eyes. The skin is entirely smooth, no bagging at all. If you mean dark circles, use a light touch with some concealer, and a light light light dusting of powder.

Have you tried a trowel?

Report
Immigrantsong · 03/08/2020 16:25

OP baking is only for the likes of the Kardashians and fab Drag queens performers. Us mere mortals cannot pull off the sheer number of make up products applied.

God nows I have tried.

And the worst, is that I can't even bake a cake. So basically i suck at a forms of baking: make up and culinary ones.

@HaggisTheGreat

Try using flour and butter instead of concealer and foundation?

Properly snorted out loud at this, well done! Grin

Never heard of "baking" before in this context - why don't people use different words for trowelling make up on instead of those relating to cakes? Confused

Also - hint on using Preparation-H on eye bags - they go saggy again once you stop, and possibly even worse than before (friend tried it)

As a former makeup artist please do not bake... Over 30 under 30 it doesn't really matter. It's a drag technique that looks amazing in flash photography or under heavy lighting but in real life it just looks dreadful!

I think you have very minor dark circles anyway but maybe you just havent found the right concealer for you. It's hard there are so many out there all for different concerns!

I have really dark skin on my eye lids and under my eyes so I look knackered constantly. I use a wee bit yellow correcter - lemon aid I think it is By benefit, & Estée Lauder light reflecting concealer patted on gently makes me look fresh and awake compared to my normal half dead look. I don’t like to put layers on and feel it sat on my skin.

My eyelids are v crepey buy am used to that one is worse than the other
