To think my portion was too large (photo)?

I’m living a bit ‘on the road’ at the moment (essential) and relying on eating out - trying to be as healthy as I can as I’m trying (!) to lose weight.

I have attached a photo of tonight’s evening meal, my only meal of the day plus a few snacks. My photo isn’t the best unfortunately but it was a bowl of spicy rice and a bowl of bean stew/soup (I’m vegetarian).

Aibu to think I had too much? Would you have eaten all of it? Unfortunately through years of dieting and binge eating I have lost sight of what a normal portion of food is and how ‘normal’ people eat.

Ps i appreciate it doesn’t look very nice but it was actually quite tasty!

It's basically vegetables and water, so no, not too big!

Dugheed · 29/07/2020 19:47

Looks fine to me and all healthy stuff.

BacklashStarts · 29/07/2020 19:47

There’s nothing for a scale in that pic. But unless it was a saucepan full you’re fine.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/07/2020 19:47

That looks like a massive amount of food to me. It looks like enough rice for three people.

IloveBeefJerky · 29/07/2020 19:48

how many calories? It looks like a big portion to me but if it has all good bits in there and still keeps you on a calorie deficit then chow down princess

Emmelina · 29/07/2020 19:48

Too much, I would say. A big carb portion, and does that much stew get a bit same-y after a while? :)

BeeFarseer · 29/07/2020 19:48

I would have had half the amount, in one bowl, but that's because it wouldn't occur to me to spread it out over two bowls to start off with.

I may then have gone back for another serving if I was still hungry.

Onekidnoclue · 29/07/2020 19:48

I’ve come on to be unhelpful! I can’t really tell size as there’s no comparison. I’m not sure that just one meal a day is very healthy OP. You must have iron will power! Also the stew is super super healthy looking. Could you split into two portions to spread through the day?
Good luck with the diet. I’m impressed you can only have one meal a day.

TurnOffTheTv · 29/07/2020 19:49

That looks a big portion to me but there isn’t anything for scale

Frazzled13 · 29/07/2020 19:50

It's hard to see how deep the bowl of stew is so hard to comment on that. But to me that looks like a very large portion of rice.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 29/07/2020 19:50

I can’t quite tell, but if that is a side plate of rice (rather than a dinner plate) i think that’s fine as a main/only meal of the day. Pprobs too much if you also had a hearty breakfast and lunch, but easily modified if so. Looks yum. What spices are in your spicy rice?

Ribrabrob · 29/07/2020 19:50

My apologies, I see it’s a bad photo. I’d say the bowls were standard cereal style bowls, not serving dishes but I appreciate it’s hard to see that as so scale.

Interesting views so far, thanks!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 29/07/2020 19:50

I’d eat about half the portion of chilli and about a third of the rice (the rice portion is huge to my eyes).

SummerHouse · 29/07/2020 19:51

Stew fine. Rice too much. I would have all of the stew and just a couple of spoons of rice mixed in it. Looks nutritious and low calorie bar the rice.

yeOldeTrout · 29/07/2020 19:52

There's a fork (just about) for scale.
That looks like hor'derbs to me, OP. Not enough. But I eat a lot.
You don't have to eat it all.
I hate wasting food so next time you'll know to order less. No biggie if some goes to waste this time.

Thehop · 29/07/2020 19:52

Not a big portion of water and veg at all!!

jomaIone · 29/07/2020 19:54

My rule is if it doesn't fit onto one plate, it's probably too much 🤣 this comes from when we are having a Chinese, I have a plate with my rice/noodles and crispy beef on, a bowl of chips, and a side plate of starters! And sometimes a box with crispy duck and pancakes, and a dipping sauce 🤣

I probably would have got full/bored halfway through that but if it was the only thing you ate all day, you probably needed it!

GreyishDays · 29/07/2020 19:55

If you’re not sure can you weigh the rice maybe?
I’m not sure. Bean stew looks fine. It’s probably fine though.

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 29/07/2020 19:55

I’d say thats AT LEAST two meals.

britnay · 29/07/2020 19:55

I would have maybe 2/3 of the stew(?) and none of the rice. The thought of all that food makes me feel sick.

BertiesLanding · 29/07/2020 19:55

That's a lot. Put your hand into a fist: that's about the size of your stomach. We really don't need to eat as much as we often do.

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/07/2020 19:56

I wouldn't say that was too much at all, but I'm wondering why it matters?

Did someone hold your nose and shovel it in till the bowls were empty, or were you allowed to stop eating when you'd had enough like the grownup you are?

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/07/2020 19:56

😂😂😂 They're cereal bowl sized.
Bluntness100 · 29/07/2020 19:57

Using the cutlery for scale then yes that looks like huge portions to me op.

Is there a reason you’re only eating one meal a day though? I get your on the road, but are able to have snacks, so is there a reason you can’t have a healthy breakfast and lunch?

lockdownsunflowers · 29/07/2020 19:57

I want that stew it looks delicious
