In finding “I’m crazy!” people boring & annoying

Sittinonthefloor · 29/07/2020 09:37

The type of person who is all loud and “life & soul of the party” often saying “I’m so crazy... I’m mad, me!” talking about themselves all the time and oblivious to others. I’ve recently encountered such a person, who’ll be hard to avoid. Any coping strategies? Or am I just a dull, misery guts?

A guy I was on a date with once told me he was "literally so random" and as I was desperately trying to internalise my ick so I didn't look rude, he told a very long story he said showed how "properly mental" he was.

The story, after about ten minutes of build up, ended with him having jumped into a swimming pool while still holding a drink. That was it. That was what was so keraaazey.

He ended it with the juggernaut... "CLASSIC ME."

backseatcookers · 29/07/2020 15:48

@AbsentmindedWoman

They all sound awful Grin

Does anyone care to regale us with one line summaries of the most tedious stories that have been offered up as proof of their krazyness?

I have a morbid curiosity now!

Forgot to tag you - my last post was for your pleasure!
Fleamaker123 · 29/07/2020 15:50

@Reedwarbler

😂

Bargebill19 · 29/07/2020 15:55

They have their uses - they volunteer/get told to, for the crap others don’t want to do.

TokyoSushi · 29/07/2020 16:00

Yep we have one like this in our friendship group, but it's a massive front for anxiety/poor self-esteem etc.

I agree though it's very, very wearing and it does make me avoid the person, which actually has the total opposite effect of what they want to achieve.

Annabesque · 29/07/2020 16:00

Oh god, plenty of this type on the group 'Fashion Forward Bitch' on FB! Lots of rainbow dungarees, wacky print converse, gold faux leather culottes and 'quirky' scarves tied round heads like Hilda Ogden. All thinking they look wacky and quirky but they look ridiculous.

burdog · 29/07/2020 16:01

The thing is, if they turned down the insufferable lack of self-awareness, they'd probably be quite good company. Outgoing, confident, probably say yes to things and willing to try new experiences. They're just so fucking insufferable that you never get to see that side of them.

Musicalmistress · 29/07/2020 16:01

@Solaran I must be in the wrong job then - quiet, shy primary teacher here 😂🤣😂

Shinyletsbebadguys · 29/07/2020 16:03

Oh good lord yes , the "madness" is usually over things like storing the coffee in the canister marked tea or some rubbish.

I'm not great with them I forget to laugh at their antics and generally just look confused at them. They don't like that.

MrsToothyBitch · 29/07/2020 16:06

I know the type- tedious. The only type I hate more is a specifically female member of the attention seeker genus. Those who come across as soooooo sweet and wuvable and cutesy-wootsy and sugary. So much so that you know it's an act. They're often annoying and the one I used to know could flip to ice cold bitch around anyone she knew either saw through her act or just wasn't useful/worth charming. I'd still love to smack her simpering chops into the middle of next week. And back again. Hard.

vanillandhoney · 29/07/2020 16:06

God yes, my old boss was like this. It drove me absolutely mad.

He also lied a LOT. I assume it was to get attention.

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/07/2020 16:12

If they're not teachers then they're either the sort of people who do staff training or are crap actors and actresses.

Annabesque · 29/07/2020 16:14

@MrsMoastyToasty I've known a couple of receptionists like this too. Talk about how to put customers off visiting somewhere! 😂

iswhois · 29/07/2020 16:15

I much much prefer people who are genuinely a bit nuts without even realising it.

luckoftheirish92 · 29/07/2020 16:20

Oh God yes. These people always describe themselves as "random" too.

Grendalsmum · 29/07/2020 16:27

My old boss was one of these ... All bubbly, wacky, "Oooh, what am l like-ery" she was actually quite nice but you wanted to shake her 'til the krazy fell out ...

SecretWitch · 29/07/2020 16:28

They usually end a story with “ And I walked down High Street with no knickers on!”...

Sittinonthefloor · 29/07/2020 16:36

V glad I’m not bu! It would be fun to get all these people together! I think the unreactive ‘hmmm’ will be my approach. I wonder if anyone has read a thread like this and realised that they are one of these people?

@LolaSmiles

although I have also anecdotal evidence of some female colleagues being like it too. You can spot the latter by their flashing Christmas bauble earrings, donned the first day back after October half term. Yes! There must be one in every school. There also has to be someone who tries very hard to let the world know that they hate Christmas too. It must come up during every conversation, but you know come December their social media will be full of Christmas things.
In my experience music or mfl. (God they were exhausting) we have lovely non wacky ones now.
Snog · 29/07/2020 16:41

Omg there are so many office workers who claim to be crazy as a badge of honour - invariably they are really not crazy in any way and usually pedestrian to say the least. As soon as anyone claims to be crazy my heart sinks 😆

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2020 16:46

The people who post the “and that’s why we can’t go back to that place again” meme & you just fucking know their the loud obnoxious family who bray like donkeys all night in the restaurant & you can’t hear yourself think.

Their fuckwits too.

ViciousJackdaw · 29/07/2020 16:51

Can't stand overuse of the word 'quirky'. It's supposed to mean 'interesting and appealing', not someone who will eat penne but refuses fusilli (additional needs excluded obvs.).

BrexitBingoGenerator · 29/07/2020 16:52

I've always wondered if Mr Tumble is one of these people. Grin

I am a primary teacher and our deputy head was like this. He would tell us to 'board the banterbus' at the beginning of a staff meeting and then say 'ding ding, and we're off'. 😐

Every single fucking time.

He's moved to a town faaaaar away now.

SummerBlossom · 29/07/2020 16:53

YANBU. That said, I do look at those types and while I don't envy the insecure, attention-seeking sorts, I wish I myself had more fun in life!
I'm a very boring, responsible and reliable office worker.

Pelleas · 29/07/2020 16:57

I don't mind them. I'm really boring myself so I find them quite interesting to watch.
