AIBU to wonder how people with glasses are managing with masks?

Just to be clear from the start I absolutely have face masks and I have been wearing them on the handful of occasions I have been to the shop. I do understand that wearing one is more important than my discomfort.

However. Going around the shop today I literally had to wipe my glasses every time I breathed, I think it was worse today because of the colder wet weather. I cannot see without my glasses. I basically went around the shop intermittently hold my breath for as long as possible to minimise the number of times I was touching my face to remove and wipe my glasses because we aren’t supposed to touch our faces but when I didn’t wipe them I actually walked straight into another persons trolley.

Now quite obviously it MUST be possible to avoid this issue because how else would doctors and nurses manage? So it must be possible but I even brought some spray which apparently is anti fog but it did nothing.

Has anyone else found a solution to this? AIBU to wonder how the medical profession do it and ask them to share their wisdom?

Rainex on the lenses. Stops the fogging.

Jammysod · 27/07/2020 18:23

Do you have a mask with a wire over the nose? I find if I wear one that does, then tuck the top of the mask under my glasses they don't steam up as much.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/07/2020 18:24

The best masks to use are the ones with the bendy metal strip above the nose so you can shape it to your face.

If you have the disposable type, try twisting the elastic once before putting it over your ear (so it forms a cross in front of your ear)

Gizlotsmum · 27/07/2020 18:24

My mask has a wire across the top so it fits close to my nose and face and then my glasses rest on top, OK till I bend over. Soap on glasses is meant to help or tissue at the top of the mask

NurseButtercup · 27/07/2020 18:25

rub washing up liquid on your glasses they don't steam up

Totickleamockingbird · 27/07/2020 18:25

How? Miserably! It’s awful! Sad

KittyFantastico · 27/07/2020 18:25

A mask with a metal nose strip gives a better fit and helps stop the fogging. I also use an ear saver that helps pull the top of the mask snug so makes it fit more closely and air isn't puffing upwards.

MarshaBradyo · 27/07/2020 18:25

I wear glasses but don’t get steaming up at all. Not sure why

NurseButtercup · 27/07/2020 18:25

Rub washing up liquid into the lenses of your glasses that helps prevent them from steaming up

daisypond · 27/07/2020 18:26

You need ones with wire in. My bought fabric was no good, but my disposable ones works fine. You shape it around your nose so no breath escapes upward to fog your glasses. I wear glasses all the time and can’t see a thing without them..

Starlitexpress · 27/07/2020 18:26

Anti fog spray, google it!

PoetaDeLosSandwiches · 27/07/2020 18:27

What Jammysod said.

I use a mask with wire over the nose, put the mask on first and then glasses.

Paul72 · 27/07/2020 18:27

I wear glasses and two hearing aids. It is not easy to take and mask off and keep hearing aids and glasses on.
I will try rainex as it will help with one problem.

DrDreReturns · 27/07/2020 18:27

I'm used to it having worked in a lab!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/07/2020 18:28

I take my glasses off and put them on top of my head. Luckily, I can see without mine but my eyes start to hurt after a while.

My mum put a strip of tissue under the top of her mask (one with wire to shape it to her nose) and she said it worked at not steaming her up.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/07/2020 18:28

I’m wearing an fp3 mask, don’t get fogged up with it. With the fabric ones I do.

Figgygal · 27/07/2020 18:28

I tuck my glasses over my mask and don’t get any steaming

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/07/2020 18:29

Glasses wearer here! Agree with everyone else, you need the mask to have a metal strip on the top seam, that you can then bend to fit snugly. Then put your glasses on, on top of the mask.

Anxiousmeg · 27/07/2020 18:29

I put aftershave on the lenses leave it for ten minutes then buff it off with a soft cloth, it leaves a clear film so you can still see but prevents them from steaming up

Anxiousmeg · 27/07/2020 18:29

shaving cream even

Cryalot2 · 27/07/2020 18:31

I was a glasses wearer until I got older and switched to monthly lenses.
My adult son has no bother and he wears glasses.
I do wear a tiny nhs hearing aid which I have to be careful with the elastics. I make all ours in several designs, and usually wear the type with elastic at the back of my head as opposed to round my ears.

lydia7986 · 27/07/2020 18:31

Buy some surgical tape, and stick the top of your mask to your nose. That way, the top is sealed, and your glasses won’t steam up.

tapdancingmum · 27/07/2020 18:31

Apart from the steaming up I'm finding it hard with varifocals as the mask masks 😀 my view and I feel like I'm falling over 😮

Sunshineonrainydays · 27/07/2020 18:32

I agree with @Jammysod, I've been wearing the disposable ones with the metal wire piece at the top. I've had very little fogging by making sure it is as high up my nose as possible (just underneath my eyes) and pressing the wire to mould to my face.
Some people have mentioned putting some tissue over the bridge of the nose to sort of soak up the moisture. Also to rub shaving foam or liquid soap over the lenses and buff up which gives a coating. But today I did neither of these and had no issues.
Good luck.
