AIBU to wonder how people with glasses are managing with masks?

Just to be clear from the start I absolutely have face masks and I have been wearing them on the handful of occasions I have been to the shop. I do understand that wearing one is more important than my discomfort.

However. Going around the shop today I literally had to wipe my glasses every time I breathed, I think it was worse today because of the colder wet weather. I cannot see without my glasses. I basically went around the shop intermittently hold my breath for as long as possible to minimise the number of times I was touching my face to remove and wipe my glasses because we aren’t supposed to touch our faces but when I didn’t wipe them I actually walked straight into another persons trolley.

Now quite obviously it MUST be possible to avoid this issue because how else would doctors and nurses manage? So it must be possible but I even brought some spray which apparently is anti fog but it did nothing.

Has anyone else found a solution to this? AIBU to wonder how the medical profession do it and ask them to share their wisdom?

I don't wear glasses anymore (had laser surgery years ago), but I remember the frustration of fogging up, it must be a nightmare at the moment.

I've made a few different masks, and really recommend these ones for being a great fit. I used T-shirt material for the ties, and made them with my sewing machine as opposed to hand sewing. I used gardening wire for the nose part, and they give a really good fit, both on the nose and at the sides. And they don't hurt your ears thanks to the ties, might be an option for you, to make it easier to remove etc @Paul72

Face shield is better I find with glasses .

Just shift your glasses a little further down your nose. Took me a while to get used to it. (NHS, so mask wearer all the sodding time)

I’ve given up and switch to contacts when I go out now.

Pull mask up high on the nose and glasses sit over the top. Been wearing them for a while for work and just played around a bit to get the position right.

Nose wire works for all the glasses wearers in this house. I made cloth masks for us all and bought aluminium nose wire strips from amazon. I think they were about £7 for 200 (I’m anticipating they will break eventually). I remove them for washing.

Very badly. I had to keep removing them/removing mask momentarily to clear yesterday. We were the only ones in a massive space making it more annoying!

I just got my first wire nose mask today and it’s a big improvement.

However it’s single layer and no pocket for a filter....has anyone seen them with a filter pocket anywhere?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/08/2020 16:40

Tit tape the mask to your nose.

PickAChew · 02/08/2020 21:40

@CatandtheFiddle

Do you have a mask with a wire over the nose? I find if I wear one that does, then tuck the top of the mask under my glasses they don't steam up as much

This. I wore one yesterday for about 10 hours all told. My glasses didn't fog up, and if they did, well, they unfog pretty quickly. It's hardly as bad as in the winter in normal times.

Just deal with it people.

Bully for you.

I'm not managing. I hate it. Good tho because it means I spend less time in shops therefore less time and money buying into the capitalist rhetoric that we need to get out and spend in order to bring this country back from the brink of pandemic related disaster. The onus is on us to fix everything, but I can't do it with my lenses steamed up.
