To report someone returning from Spain

641 replies

Archie1989 · 27/07/2020 13:08

A friend of my partner has said he has no intention of isolating on his return from Spain. Should I anonymously report them? My mum was on the shielding list and it’s making me quite angry. People who went abroad would know the risks during all of this....and then to refuse to isolate shows such arrogance and disregard for others.

I don’t know this person well and I don’t want to make my partner feel stuck in the middle.

@SerendipityJane

I bet a lot of the "don't snitch" brigade that appear to have arrived en masse would happily snitch about other things though. Which makes them hypocrites at the least ...
Exactly.
DeepestDarkestSins · 27/07/2020 14:15

They are all at various stages of higher risk and not one of them gives a fuck about Coronavirus.

Quite. A lot of older people are horrified about what's being done to 'protect them'.

Personally, I think any old person who would prefer the pools to be permanently closed to kiddies so that they could swim themselves 'risk free' is a massive selfish arsehole.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2020 14:15

Is snitching bad if it involves safeguarding or just if it involves COVID?

MacduffsMuff · 27/07/2020 14:15

Did people going abroad just now seriously not consider that this may happen? I mean really? Mind-boggling.

1forAll74 · 27/07/2020 14:15

I wouldn't report them, it would probably be pointless,even if you knew who to report them to. But sadly, a great many people won't take any notice of all the rules and regulations now.

Signalbox · 27/07/2020 14:16

I'm honestly not being goady I just don't understand why if you get contacted through contact tracing you only have to isolate until you have a negative test result

This isn’t true. If you are contacted by test and trace you have to isolate for 14 days even if you have a negative test result it’s still 14 days.

Lucindainthesky · 27/07/2020 14:16

I would absolutely report somebody doing this.

How dare people think the rules don't apply to them.

strawberrypip · 27/07/2020 14:16

@HeckyPeck @SerendipityJane

feckin curtain twitchers, deluded and illogical.

Wow, a whole five pages before “brigade” was mentioned. The entire country seems to be formed of various brigades now.
verypeckish · 27/07/2020 14:17

I have sympathy for those unwittingly caught up in this.

However, I have nothing but total contempt and disgust for anyone who refuses to abide by the regulations and by not doing so, is endangering the lives of other people.

I'd report the shit out of them.

strawberrypip · 27/07/2020 14:17

the rules are bullshit

Crumpets111 · 27/07/2020 14:17

Always one grass eh op?

cherryblossommorningstoday · 27/07/2020 14:18

Yes report them.

Those who are saying you shouldn't - if you saw someone thumping and mugging an older person, would you not report it?

Failing to adhere to quarantine is just as threatening to multiple older people!!!

Our cases escalated wildly in the first place after mass imported cases post February half term!

feistyoneyouare · 27/07/2020 14:18

I really hate this culture of reporting that seems to be becoming the norm these days. Imho some people need to read a copy of 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' and think again.

GreytExpectations · 27/07/2020 14:19

Op, you'd do well as a member of Stasi.

It was good faith because they followed the guidelines at the time, restrictions were lifted and people were advised it was safe for them to travel. Mind your own business and find something better to do then be a snitch.

Annierose293 · 27/07/2020 14:19

People are unbelievably selfish.

Catspaw123 · 27/07/2020 14:20

Oh don't such a horrid thing to do

It's very rare that I agree with you, IIRC. But this is SO true.

As soon as I read brigade, I lose all respect for the poster.

LakieLady · 27/07/2020 14:20

It's everyone's business to avoid a second wave and a second lock down

I must admit, that's pretty much how I feel. The second wave in Leicester shows how easily that can happen.

I'm not unduly bothered, tbh, we're both WFH and have only had 3 non-essential trips out since lockdown ended, but I know that for a lot of people it's very different. And the economic impact of the first lockdown could well be appalling (especially when combined with the impact of Brexit) are going to take years to recover from. The prospect of having to have a second one is too dreadful to contemplate.

HeckyPeck · 27/07/2020 14:20

Question for the snitching is shameful people:

If someone was coming back from one of the highly infected areas and worked in a care home for example and was saying they wouldn’t bother with quarantine and they hadn’t told their employer they were going away, would you really not let the home know? Would you really think it was none of your business? Would you perhaps only care if one of your loved ones was in that particular care home?

DomDoesWotHeWants · 27/07/2020 14:21

@GoddamnGodBless

Snitching is absolutely shameful.
I seem to have wandered into a junior school playground.

"snitching"?

Grow up.

Sallycinnamum · 27/07/2020 14:21

Fuck me is this actually real? Mind your own business and go and find something more useful to do.

Jenasaurus · 27/07/2020 14:22

I get you OP, I understand why you feel its unfair and and you want to report them.

For those that are saying MYOB and calling OP a snitch, would you say the same if she reported someone she saw drink driving, or talking on the phone while behind the wheel, as this is the same reasoning, putting others at risk is selfish and I think the OP is well within her rights to want the person returning from Spain to follow the rules and take the precaution of isolating to prevent the risk to others.

lifesalongsong · 27/07/2020 14:24

@maddy68

Spain is much safer than the UK. Mind your own business
That's a totally meaningless statement, neither country has a blanket risk that is the same wherever you are, you don't believe that do you? Have you not absorbed any information on how the virus works?

If you're going to disagree with the quarantine at least make sure it's for an actual proper reason
