To report someone returning from Spain

Archie1989 · 27/07/2020 13:08

A friend of my partner has said he has no intention of isolating on his return from Spain. Should I anonymously report them? My mum was on the shielding list and it’s making me quite angry. People who went abroad would know the risks during all of this....and then to refuse to isolate shows such arrogance and disregard for others.

I don’t know this person well and I don’t want to make my partner feel stuck in the middle.

@luckylavender dying of the virus looks quite tempting right now compared to living in this gleefully vindictive, sanctimonious society. Idiot yourself.

Mydogisthebestest · 27/07/2020 13:52

Have they actually done it or are they just saying they will ?

tinytemper66 · 27/07/2020 13:53

Even the Transpot minister has been caught out. If he quarantined then so should the others but if he breaks the rules (like so many of the shit govt ) then he reaps what he sows!

SusieOwl4 · 27/07/2020 13:54

@ohthegoats

no - cases had doubled in a day - and the government said at this time if they had not done a blanket ruling people would be going back via other airports to avoid the isolating rule. Perhaps in the future this can be refined .

Damned if they do - damned if they don't.

People who booked holidays recently would be very aware they had no Covid insurance if they had to go into hospital . financially some may be penalised but some could work from home so will be ok . They must have realised there was a chance this would happen surely?

they can still enjoy the holidays if they are already out there ( to a certain expent all masked up ) then they will have to hope their employers are sympathetic.

Applepieco · 27/07/2020 13:55
@Applepieco yeah I do understand that but wouldn't that also apply to being around someone in say a pub or workplace with covid? I'm honestly not being goady I just don't understand why if you get contacted through contact tracing you only have to isolate until you have a negative test result, but if you've been abroad you have to quarantine for 14 days. Or have I got it wrong about the contact tracing? Is that 14 days too?
Test & trace is 14 day quarantine.

redbushtea · 27/07/2020 13:55

Mind your own business. People like you will makes us all slaves of the state. Whatever happened to individual freedom and liberty.

LakieLady · 27/07/2020 13:56

@Thislittlelady, on R4 earlier today, someone was saying that they would be spot-checking approx 20% of people returning from Spain.

And the penalty is £1,000 fixed penalty fine.

I'm not sure I'd gamble £1,000 at those odds.

katy1213 · 27/07/2020 13:57

Should I anonymously report this sanctimonious busybody?

justasking111 · 27/07/2020 13:57

The smart thing to do someone said is if you are in Spain hire a car drive to France, then catch a flight from there.

OP if this individual is going to be snogging your mum then yes report them both.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2020 13:58

@MrsGradyOldLady the same applies for contact tracing, so self isolate for 14 days.

SantaClaritaDiet · 27/07/2020 13:58

the same thing that happened when creating laws about seat belts and car seats and the rest of it.... Hmm
Topseyt · 27/07/2020 13:59
@doodleygirl I honestly don’t know to be honest. I think I’m just angry about it. People haven’t been able to go to funerals. My mum hasn’t been able to see her grandchildren...and someone is in such need of a holiday, they have to go, and then they can’t be bothered to isolate on return.

I think I’d want them to just get a warning from the COVID police (whoever they are) or something!
Do you seriously believe in the "Covid Police?" There are no designated Covid Police.

Mind your own business. And no, I don't think it is your business at all.

I couldn't give a shit any more where any of my neighbours and friends have been. I certainly don't see it as my role to play the neighbourhood snitch.

DeepestDarkestSins · 27/07/2020 13:59

Heartening to see the tide turning a little against all this stasi nonsense.

SusieOwl4 · 27/07/2020 13:59

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

that is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard - there are approx. 40000 less pensioners less to spend money .

And it has been proven by recent research ii is many asymptomic youngsters between 16 and 24 that are spreading the virus to others .

And there are many people of all ages that are high risk because of existing conditions - so we should just shut them all away as well should we?

What a selfish attitude .

cocopops · 27/07/2020 14:00

WinterAndRoughWeather · 27/07/2020 14:00

This country.

maddy68 · 27/07/2020 14:00

Spain is much safer than the UK. Mind your own business

DeepestDarkestSins · 27/07/2020 14:01

Makes more sense than shutting all of us away did.

Could have helped keep the economy going if the low risk had been allowed out.

MrsFogi · 27/07/2020 14:01

YABU - unfortunately since Dominic Cummings decided to breach lockdown I don't see why anyone would bother reporting anyone or blame others for taking their decisions about what they were/were not going to do.

SusieOwl4 · 27/07/2020 14:01

they are going to be spot checking companies who have fraudently claimed furlough for staff still working as well .

GOOD !

well, people have proven that they are unable to behave in a responsible and acceptable manners - just read threads about neighbours from hell for a start!

so the state needs to step us. Shit and a shame, but what else can they do...

wellitstrue · 27/07/2020 14:02

I agree they should follow the rules.

But I couldn't be going around reporting everyone, monitoring their activity, getting worked up about it. Life really is bad enough right now without adding that in.

I'd be getting much more worked up about people living in the UK who aren't following the existing rules, rather than someone who has come back from Spain. Unless they were in Catalonia or Aragon, there is less chance of them coming back with something than if they were in England.

MrsGradyOldLady · 27/07/2020 14:02

Thanks for clearing that up @Applepieco. I did not know that! I think I'll be cancelling my dinner reservation for Friday night as really couldn't afford 14 days unpaid leave if someone else in the restaurant was found to be positive. Don't think I'll be taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme either...

SantaClaritaDiet · 27/07/2020 14:02

Could have helped keep the economy going if the low risk had been allowed out.

they are now... see how well it's working out!

luckylavender · 27/07/2020 14:02

@MaxNormal - I'm certainly not gleeful, sanctimonious or vindictive. I just want to get rid of this bloody virus as soon as possible so that we can get our lives back. So that means we have to follow rules designed to protect us.
