To find people who dislike animals a bit cold in general

Yes it’s probably goady. Yes I’ve made an apt name change but...

Honestly - anyone I’ve ever met who’s “not an animal person” always seems to be a bit... off.

I’m not talking about those who are say scared of dogs, or a bit mistrustful of cats. I mean those who are very much “it’s just an animal” (and no I don’t include farmers in this either.

I know plenty of people who are nervous of animals and they’re lovely / but have known maybe around 3 people who really are jist “who cares” and they are not so nice.

@Babymamaroon

Anyone who is OK with animals suffering any form of abuse (it's just an animal so it doesn't matter) is both cold and disgusting.

Normal people abhor cruelty to any being.

Well obviously.

But that doesn't mean that you have to be interested in hearing long and detailed stories about your friend's cat, or looking at endless pictures about their rabbit. Just not interested.

You can simultaneously have no interest in animals, and not want them harmed.

doadeer · 26/07/2020 19:03

I could never own a dog, the thought of picking up animal poo is revolting. I enjoy watching animal documentaries but I don't go mad for animals and I would never give to an animal charity over one for humans... So I would say I'm not an animal person but I like to think I'm a very kind person! I just prefer humans.

SockYarn · 26/07/2020 19:04

Or those who see an animal appeal and think “meh” (not saying they should donate - just that they don’t feel any emotional “tug”.)

That would be me. When there are children starving or drinking dirty water there is no way in hell I will be donating to a donkey sanctuary. Because people are more important than animals.

Danglingmod · 26/07/2020 19:06

Absolutely, SockYarn.

The80sweregreat · 26/07/2020 19:07

I understand that losing a beloved pet must be horrible and how attached people become to their animals. I've never had this myself , but I can see how upsetting it is.
My friends were a bit surprised when I told them that my dh had to go straight round to his mums when their dog died as she was so upset. They didn't get it , but I did ; it's not the same as a human passing, but it's still heartbreaking for the owner to come to terms with and I've never owned a pet!
Having empathy for others is also important.

Baybetterdays · 26/07/2020 19:07

I don’t trust wholly people who don’t like animals ;)

garlictwist · 26/07/2020 19:07

I am really not bothered about animals and really don't see the appeal of pets, but I always fake it and fuss over people's dogs and cats because they think you're satan otherwise.

PablosHoney · 26/07/2020 19:09

A lot of people who go totally nuts over animals hate people, animal rights activists in particular. I do care about abuse I just don’t want to possess an animal.

Tinhatattheready · 26/07/2020 19:10

@SockYarn I’m not saying donate (I wouldn’t either) but how anyone could think meh - I don’t get.

To be clear I’ve had pets and not had pets - I’m not vegan, nor vegetarian and this isn’t all about pets.

strawberrycreamplz · 26/07/2020 19:10

I like cats but that's about it. Anything else I have zero interest in.

ninjaturtle000 · 26/07/2020 19:10

I'm not fussed about animals. I certainly don't want other people's pets slobbering on me, pestering for food or climbing on me. I don't think they're cute or really have an interest in them.

However, I think cruelty to an animal (or any creature) is abhorrent. I would never hurt an animal and I would help one if I saw one in need (like if I came across an injured cat, I wound take it to a vet).

I don't think I'm cold. I just don't like animals much (unless I am eating some of them!).

Not a nature hater ether. I spent today wandering around a nature reserve with my children. Not everyone likes or wants children either - doesn't make them a bit off, or cold!

The80sweregreat · 26/07/2020 19:10

Dogs do seem to like me! It's odd as I don't encourage this behavior but they like a pet or a cuddle. I can do this for a while and it's ok , but I still don't want a dog myself!
People know I'm allergic to their cats so they have to go outside if I visit ( and just glare at me through the window wondering why they can't come in ! ) poor cats.

Alwaysinpain · 26/07/2020 19:11

My Mum has always told me to avoid those who aren't animal lovers/likers. That they're either at least slightly Narcissistic or just plain weird & cold.

FilthyforFirth · 26/07/2020 19:11

I've no desire for a pet and feel sad that a lot of people seem to place empathy for animals above humans. If that makes me cold, so be it...

TibetanTerrier · 26/07/2020 19:11

@Arrivederla
I could say that I find people who are obsessed with animals to be a
bit lacking in intelligence but I value my life so I won't...

What do you mean by "obsessed"?

tabulahrasa · 26/07/2020 19:12

@garlictwist

I am really not bothered about animals and really don't see the appeal of pets, but I always fake it and fuss over people's dogs and cats because they think you're satan otherwise.
Nah, if I know people aren’t fussed for pets, I’ll keep dogs from annoying them, the cat...well, I try, but she’s a fairly typical cat in that she makes a beeline for people who don’t want to stroke her Hmm

“They didn't get it , but I did ; it's not the same as a human passing, but it's still heartbreaking for the owner to come to terms with and I've never owned a pet!”

Exactly, no, it’s not a person, but you spend a lot of time with them and it’s upsetting when they die.

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/07/2020 19:15

The emotions around animal are very interesting if you think about it. If the rains on the serengeti fail and thousands of wildebeest starve, that's nature and I'll watch the programme and admire the vultures and the great circle of life.
Show me an ad about horses stranded by flooding and I get upset.

Alwaysinpain · 26/07/2020 19:19

@Waxonwaxoff0

I'm not a huge animal lover. Disliking animals does not mean you think cruelty to them is OK Hmm I do not think cruelty to animals is OK and I am not cruel to animals myself, I just am not fussed about them and I would never own a pet. My mum looks at dogs in the street and goes "awww", I just don't really notice them.
Genuine question - So you've never thought any animal to be cute then? Not even a baby Owl or an Otter pup? Little Penguin when it waddles?! Snoring fluffy little Dog with its paws in the air?!
TibetanTerrier · 26/07/2020 19:20

@SockYarn

I'll be donating (indeed I do donate) to the donkeys.
Alwaysinpain · 26/07/2020 19:21

@annabel85 Sometimes the biggest psychopaths are animal lovers.

Who? Which biggest psychopaths are animal lovers??

Miriel · 26/07/2020 19:22

I'm a vegetarian and think animal cruelty is abhorrent, but I'm indifferent to people's pets. I've just never seen the appeal.

I also think it odd how many of the self-described pet lovers are happy to say they hate children, would choose the life of a cat over someone else's child, and so on. (I'm not talking about pet owners who just don't want children of their own - only those who make a point of saying they hate them). I find that really creepy, to be honest.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 26/07/2020 19:24

Very true. I dont trust people who don't like animals.

Dogs in particular are good judges of character. If the dog doesn't like someone, I don't trust them.

LordOftheRingz · 26/07/2020 19:24

I have had animals, and now I don't want anything to do with keeping animals as pets. I have long had enough of animal pissing and crapping in my home, keeping me awake, pinning me down, costing me thousands in vets bills, holiday minding etc.

I just don't see the point of them anymore, they are just an enormous bother.

Sakura7 · 26/07/2020 19:25

It is possible to care about both people and animals, and to donate to charities that help both.

Freewillies · 26/07/2020 19:26

I haven't found this.

I always find 'I prefer animals to people' people are though.
