40+ year old women posting selfies on social media - is this a new trend?

Quite a few of my friends/acquaintances have recently started posting very posed selfies (without much in the way of a description) on FB and instagram. Women who are well into their 40s, married with children. Is this some sort of lockdown related insecurity? I find it so strange.

Ahh you are being harsh, what does being over 40 got to do with it? It probably is insecurity, unfriend them as you aren’t their friend. I don’t post selfies before you assume I’m on the defensive, not 40 yet either.

Why on earth do so many people on the thread keep telling us that it's a discussion forum? We know it is and nobody has tried to stop anyone else from posting. We know you're allowed to say how much you hate selfies, it's been 14 pages of very little else.

It's a sign of a truly decimated and groundless argument that all one can give is "well I'm allowed to say it".

Quite. the point of a discussion forum is to think critically about why people hold the views they do.

You're all well within your rights to parrot these (in my view) misogynistic stereotypes, we're within ours to call you on them and ask you respectfully to think about why you're choosing to judge other women on something like this.

I'm not asking you to keep your views to yourself, I'm asking you to think about why you hold them. I don't think they hold up to any real intellectual rigour or consistency.
