Would this annoy you, re. taking treats into work?

Don't know why this annoys me but it does. Sometimes at work, usually a couple of times a week, I or someone else will bring in some cookies or sweets or something for eveyone to share.

One co-worker though when she gets her share often says 'oh I 'll take it home for my daughter'

I feel like saying 'I'm bringing in things for us to have at work not to be taken home for children, if you want her to have treats buy them yourself'

I know it's only petty but it's annoying me!

Pre covid, my Dh work place was like bake off too.

He doesn’t eat a lot of sugary stuff so when he was presented with a plate of cake/biscuits/treats he would bring them home for Ds and Dd instead of turning them down.

The people who made them were always really happy when he said how much the kids had enjoyed them. So win win.

I’m bemused by all the people who can’t just say, ‘No thank you.’ if they don’t want something.

Sounds like you work with people who don't care if you refuse. Some people are very weird about others refusing food. They don't let it drop. It's bloody irritating - a bit like those people who can't accept that some people don't want to drink alcohol.

So yes, if you are surrounded by these kinds of people at work, you do sometimes end up saying you'll take something home with you just to get people to shut up and leave you alone.

When our office feeder left, everyonelost at least a stone.

Yep, I've lost nearly a stone since the lockdown for similar reasons! People get really offended when you don't want their cake.

Shmurf · 22/07/2020 03:50

I may BU but I hate it when I offer somebody something and they say "oh, I'll have that later". Almost every time I end up with food envy as I watch them eat a piece of my cake two hours later.

BoomBoomsCousin · 22/07/2020 03:59

If you’ve made one cupcake for every member of the office then it seems a bit petty to begrudge her taking it for her daughter since leaving it will just screw up numbers. And if she brings treats in for the office then it’s beyond petty to begrudge it.

But if she’s not one of the “givers” and it’s not obviously one piece per person then YANBU at all. There is no “fair share” that she’s entitled to do what she wants with. They are brought in for office staff to eat and if she doesn’t want to eat it she should leave it for office staff who do want to.

I think people are missing the point here that OP was making - it's sweets and cookies she buys for the office- OP didn't say it was homemade cakes and biscuits ..

Don't know why this annoys me but it does. Sometimes at work, usually a couple of times a week, I or someone else will bring in some cookies or sweets or something for eveyone to share.

One co-worker though when she gets her share often says 'oh I 'll take it home for my daughter'

So OP and someone else is stocking up the office cupboard with biscuits snacks sweets for colleagues to nibble on as a treat if hungry in the office, not for colleagues to greedy grab a handful and take home to their family. It's clearly for eating in the office or leaving for your colleagues the rest of the week. Biscuits and sweets don't go off.

Buy your own biscuits for home, Dora! Stop stealing office supplies that OP is subbing!!!

It's CF so I'd be annoyed. I bet she rarely brings any treats/food in, am I right OP?

I think liking is a factor in this sort of thing too.

If you like and get on well with someone, then that person taking a cupcake home won’t bother you at all, but if they already annoy you then this becomes another reason to dislike them.

Cadent · 22/07/2020 05:46

@Sparticuscaticus you’ve made it worse than it is by saying the the snacks are kept on the cupboard!

And typical, the OP has abandoned the thread.

tttigress · 22/07/2020 06:05

Must admit, I hate the whole....but it's my birthday, you have to eat this cake, thing.

I try to stay slim and eating cake every few days because someone forces you to isn't good!

bumblingbovine49 · 22/07/2020 06:14

I do this sometimes when there is a lot left but someone is talking about.throwimg it away because it has been there a couple.of days and the weekend is coming up. Sometimes I am going to eat it but.am.embaressed because I am overweight and don't want everyone to witness my pure greed for sugar.
