Toast with butter AND honey?! Ew.

Ongoing (lighthearted) argument with DH - he has butter (margarine) and honey on his toast. I think this is weird! Tbh I'm not bothered about butter/spread & can happily not have it on toast / sandwiches. Obviously I'll have it on toast if it's plain but he has butter with everything! Toast with honey, marmite etc has to have butter too. Sandwiches have to have butter regardless of filling. I would never dream of putting it with philly cheese! Am I they only one who thinks butter shouldn't automatically go on toast / sandwiches?!

He is BU to have margarine with honey, because it's horrid.

But the salty goodness of butter mixed with the sweetness of honey...mmmmmmmmm

Whatthebloodyell · 19/07/2020 22:15

Marge is not butter.

Toast nearly always needs butter, in addition to the other topping.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 19/07/2020 22:15

Butter on sandwiches is optional for me, depending on filling.

But marmite, honey and jam taste so much better with salted butter too. If I can’t have butter too,
I’d rather not have toast!

yelyah22 · 19/07/2020 22:16

I agree with you about Philadelphia though! But most things I think should have butter on. Maybe not tuna mayo...

Summerhillsquare · 19/07/2020 22:17

Butter is the food of the gods IMO. Just use sparingly.

Delbelleber · 19/07/2020 22:18

Yabu. Butter +honey=gooood

Tfoot75 · 19/07/2020 22:18

Butter is an absolutely critical ingredient on toast no matter what else is going on it! Disgusting without it.

I don't have it on sandwiches though, yuck.

LaPampa · 19/07/2020 22:18

Toast with honey, marmite or jam def needs salty butter first.

Sandwiches depends on filling - cream cheese no butter but plain cheese or cucumber id have with butter etc

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 19/07/2020 22:19

You freak. Butter and honey is a classic combination.

DappledThings · 19/07/2020 22:19

Butter or margarine is an undercoat, a primer. It is essential for any other topping to be done right. This includes honey, peanut butter, jam, Marmite Nutella and Philadelphia.

Your DH is right!

Jojo19834 · 19/07/2020 22:20

Phew, glad everyone seems to think like me toast with honey needs butter! Also agree though that butter is optional depending on filling in sandwiches

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/07/2020 22:21

You need butter on the toast to stop the honey sinking into it.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/07/2020 22:22

DS has discovered toast with proper salted butter and honey this week, he keeps asking for it at most mealtimes Grin YABVU, its a perfect snack.

DappledThings · 19/07/2020 22:22

Also agree though that butter is optional depending on filling in sandwiches
I'd disagree there. I don't think there is any sandwich or toast topping that I'd want without butter.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 19/07/2020 22:23

Margarine is unforgivable - why do you let it in the house? If i want to put butter on my toast before the jam, honey, spread or whatever, what has my husband got to do with it.?I am the one who is eating it!

FourPlasticRings · 19/07/2020 22:24

You're wrong here, OP. The spread makes the marmite on toast. Also, sweet+ salty is a well-established flavour combo.

RightOnTheEdge · 19/07/2020 22:24

Toast with honey definitely needs butter!
Margerine though is VU.
Butter/marge with cream cheese is very weird.

BluebellForest836 · 19/07/2020 22:24

I’d have butter with any sandwich filling ... and I’d have it on all toast the + Nutella, jam, honey etc

motherheroic · 19/07/2020 22:25

It's pretty good actually. You only need a little bit of honey because the butter helps spread it perfectly.

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 19/07/2020 22:25

I think we need to form an intervention to liberate your poor DH from living with a woman with such unnatural views.

NeedToKnow101 · 19/07/2020 22:26

Toast without butter would be so dry. YAB very U.

Knobblybobbly · 19/07/2020 22:26

The only roast topping that does not require butter is peanut butter. Literally everything else is improved by the presence of butter.

Knobblybobbly · 19/07/2020 22:27

Roast = toast

Naughty1205 · 19/07/2020 22:27

Butter belongs with honey on toast. It's just delicious!

motherheroic · 19/07/2020 22:27

Bitter and margarine are definitely not interchangeable.
