Toast with butter AND honey?! Ew.

Ongoing (lighthearted) argument with DH - he has butter (margarine) and honey on his toast. I think this is weird! Tbh I'm not bothered about butter/spread & can happily not have it on toast / sandwiches. Obviously I'll have it on toast if it's plain but he has butter with everything! Toast with honey, marmite etc has to have butter too. Sandwiches have to have butter regardless of filling. I would never dream of putting it with philly cheese! Am I they only one who thinks butter shouldn't automatically go on toast / sandwiches?!

YABU for calling margarine butter!

Real butter makes everything better, marmite, honey, chocolate spread, jam etc etc.

Toast only exists as a raft for butter; that is the sole function of toast.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 19/07/2020 22:28

We have a motto in our family. Butter = Better.

I would use butter without every possible sandwich/cracker topping including cream cheese, honey, pate and jam.

Margarine is completely unreasonable. Do people still actually eat it!?!

BillBaileysBum · 19/07/2020 22:28

The toast is just the vehicle for the butter. YABVVVVVVVVVU.

EatShitBoswell · 19/07/2020 22:28

What's all this about not having butter with Philadelphia? Shock sesame seed bagel with butter and Philadelphia is one of my favourites, what's weird about it?

Margarine HIBU

Making toast and not putting more butter than there is toast is always BU

Scout2016 · 19/07/2020 22:30

I'm with your DH and you are missing out.
Have you tried hot crumpets with butter and hummus? Now, there is a texture and flavour combination that takes some beating.

BaronessBomburst · 19/07/2020 22:30

Butter with everything! Except hummus. It really doesn't go with hummus. But a drizzle of olive oil does...... Grin

EatShitBoswell · 19/07/2020 22:31

Sorry about the double post.
Will also say though that butter is not interchangeable with Marge 🤮

And also butter needs to be on all toast, especially with peanut butter otherwise it's dry and claggy Confused

lurker101 · 19/07/2020 22:31

Butter belongs on toast and sandwiches - margarine belongs in the bin 😂 Sorry OP it’s just dreadful tasting and doesn’t melt and hangs around like a wet weekend on top of your toast

BaronessBomburst · 19/07/2020 22:31

Amusing x-post with Scout2016.

Gingerkittykat · 19/07/2020 22:32

I love butter and would happily spread huge slabs of it onto my toast and eat endless crusty bread slathered with it if I wasn't calorie counting.

Margarine is horrible though.

jessstan2 · 19/07/2020 22:32

Butter, not marg, with honey on toast is lovely!

MrsJBaptiste · 19/07/2020 22:33

Toast ALWAYS needs butter with every topping. Even Nutella.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/07/2020 22:33

Margarine is not butter.
Butter and honey, yes. Marge and anything in the world, no.

And yes you have butter in a sandwich unless it has mayonnaise.
For example making a cheese sandwich, butter on one slice, cheese, pickle, salad leaves, mayo on the other slice.

wafflyversatile · 19/07/2020 22:34

Hes right, or at least closer to right. All toast should have butter regardless of any other topping.

DeeTractor · 19/07/2020 22:34

Absolutely despise butter on sandwiches and wtf is this perversion about butter with Philadelphia? Degenerates.

Spottybluepyjamas · 19/07/2020 22:34

Margarine - absolutely not. Vile stuff.

Proper salted butter with honey on toast on the other hand, is phenomenal.

transformandriseup · 19/07/2020 22:35

I would put butter on toast before just about anything. And I put butter on croissants too but don't get them very often.

LadyPrigsbottom · 19/07/2020 22:36

Marge is horrible and isn't butter. Honey on toast with no butter sounds very...dry? I would normally put butter and honey on toast together. Also with marmite. But not with cream cheese.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 19/07/2020 22:36

Margarine is vile.

There is nothing that isnt improved by butter first, including honey. Glorious.

saltycat · 19/07/2020 22:37

I'm laughing now, cos I just came home from OP's parents place on a quiet part of the coast, was lovely, we are grateful.

So OH said, would you like something with your tea. And I said toast with bit of Kerrygold Butter + honey on top.

No problem. Was delish. Not getting the problem here.

funinthesun19 · 19/07/2020 22:37

Has to be Lurpak butter for me.

The yellow stuff tastes too buttery. And I’m not a big lover of butter and never have been. I don’t have it on my sandwiches because to me it ruins the taste.

Lurpak and Jam. Yum! Perfect combination. Honey probably tastes nice with it too.

madwoman1ntheattic · 19/07/2020 22:39

Wut? I know not a single person who has honey on dry toast. That’s fecking weird.
And FIL is a beekeeper. I know a LOT of honey aficionados lol.
But yes, butter. Not marg.

excuseforfights · 19/07/2020 22:39

I’ve never had toast with honey, strikes me as a strange combo.

Although I loved the breakfast that was served in Turkey which was rolls with honey etc
