Toast with butter AND honey?! Ew.

Ongoing (lighthearted) argument with DH - he has butter (margarine) and honey on his toast. I think this is weird! Tbh I'm not bothered about butter/spread & can happily not have it on toast / sandwiches. Obviously I'll have it on toast if it's plain but he has butter with everything! Toast with honey, marmite etc has to have butter too. Sandwiches have to have butter regardless of filling. I would never dream of putting it with philly cheese! Am I they only one who thinks butter shouldn't automatically go on toast / sandwiches?!

Brittany butter or fuck off.
And proper butter in a proper butter dish. This ‘spreadable’ business is bullshit. There is no reason to not just keep your butter in a butter dish on the side. No need to put it in the fridge. Even when it was really hot it wasn’t a problem.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 19/07/2020 22:39

Butter on toast with any topping is essential (apart from spreadable cheeses) ditto sandwiches. I wouldn’t touch margarine,it’s shite and probably bad for you due to the ingredients. It is banned from my home!

Scout2016 · 19/07/2020 22:41

@BaronessBomburst only on crumpets. I'm not some kind of weirdo Wink

BaronessBomburst · 19/07/2020 22:42

@Scout2016 I'm totally prepared to try it the next time I get my hands on a crumpet!

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 19/07/2020 22:43

Butter is needed on sandwiches to stop them going soggy if there are eg tomatoes involved. I’m on a diet now so soggy sandwiches for me Sad

Scout2016 · 19/07/2020 22:44

I would say, in OP's defense...if the toast isn't hot and the butter won't melt then don't for the love of god have both. This is where using toasters looses out to grills - you can't put it back under to melt the butter.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 19/07/2020 22:48

Toast and marmite of course needs butter, so does toast and honey, marmalade, jam, peanut butter, Nutella,
I can manage a sandwich without butter, usually cheese or tuna, but would have mayonnaise

Fanthorpe · 19/07/2020 22:51

Ah - peanut butter and honey is amazing on toast.

Mistymonday · 19/07/2020 22:53

Always (vegan) butter first - whether peanut butter or jam, and definitely for marmite.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 19/07/2020 22:56

I love cold toast with butter and marmite

cannotmakemymindup · 19/07/2020 22:56

Butter and honey is soo good on toast.
Soft Cheese spread - no butter
Peanut butter - no butter
Biscoff spread - no butter
Chocolate spread - no butter
Jam - butter
Marmite - butter
Honey - butter
Peanut butter and Jam - no butter and butter.

Macncheeseballs · 19/07/2020 22:59

Peanut butter needs butter

QueenCT · 19/07/2020 23:20

All toast needs butter. And no, butter isn't marg/spread
The butter softens the toast and preps it for whatever else you put on

CoRhona · 19/07/2020 23:34

Margarine is rank. But butter and honey on toast is my breakfast every morning!

teaandcustardcreamsx · 20/07/2020 00:12

YANBU. Butter and honey just don’t go! Jam sandwiches with butter are absolutely vile Envy. Peanut butter and honey makes a great combination though! Grin

Mangomumma · 20/07/2020 00:58

Seems I'm in the minority! Grin

When I say margarine, it's the olive oil type spread stuff. A hot piece of toast with plenty of real melty butter is delicious! But otherwise I don't really eat it. I may have to try it with honey now so many people have said how good it is...

I don't trust butter deniers, "spread" is evil.

All hail butter and honey! 🤣

VictoriaBun · 20/07/2020 08:17

I'd rather butter with more butter on my toast, I can't stand honey, but there again I'm not keen on any sweet thing with bread.

NellieandRufus · 20/07/2020 08:20

Margarine is rank, cannot be compared to butter.

I don’t like butter in sandwiches, I tend to have mayo instead. However, with toast and crumpets it is essential.

Arrivederla · 20/07/2020 08:26

Olive oil type spreads are still shit, op - just slightly more expensive shit.

MinnieMousse · 20/07/2020 08:28

Toast without butter would be dry and unpleasant. You have to let the butter melt before you put the other topping on though.

Turniptracker · 20/07/2020 08:31

If you aren't having salty butter with your sweet honey you're missing out on one of life's great pleasures 😁

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 20/07/2020 08:35

YABU and very wrong . Toast and honey needs butter ..as for Marmite..how could it be any other way than with hot buttery toast? Catch on to yourself and tell him to buy real butter 😍

1stTimeMama · 20/07/2020 08:41

Margarine is an unacceptable 'food item, it's VU just existing.

There isn't a food stuff around that isn't improved with proper salted butter. I'd eat in slices if its a really good one, so therefore, specifically with breaded items, it's a necessity.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 20/07/2020 12:09

I had this for breakfast this morning. Thick bread proper butter and gorgeous local set honey. Scrumptious.
Spread of any sort is wrong. Butter all the way.
