DS (15, 16 early next year) asked if he could have a bottle of cider (4%) with dinner tonight. I said no and will continue to say no but it got me wondering if that's unusual or if other 15 year olds are allowed alcohol at home.
YABU - yes, I let my teenager have alcohol at home
YANBU - no, I don't let my teenager have alcohol at home

From around 16 I allowed mine to have a glass of Prosecco, wine or cider if they wanted. DD would occasionally have a glass of fizz but my DS said no till recently (he's nearly 18 now) but he would only have a beer or cider.

I did but then drink to take to partied though from around 16.

I agree with northern. Why do we have to act like they will have to drink someday so why not get them used to it now? Let's be honest the majority of the current generation of 30-60 year olds drink and many are dependent in some way even if they think they don't have an issue. So what our parents did isn't necessarily the best way. Just because you didn't go out and get so pissed you threw up. In all honesty I'd be pretty happy if my kids never drank. There are so many lovely drinks out there that let's be honest it's not about the taste anymore.

Thanks tits I felt a bit lonely with my opinion. I come from a group of friends who all drink far more than is healthy. Professionals who drink but give the appearance of functioning quite well on the surface. I do judge that they are giving their 14 and 16 year olds kopperberg.

DD is 15 and I would be more than happy for her to have a small glass of something mildly alcoholic at the weekend but she’s not interested

Yes. He has the odd can of cider. He’s 14. He has champagne or sparkling wine if we have it. Not a big deal really.
