Just posting for opinions as I'm curious. What do you think will be the next lot of things he announces? Other than wearing masks.
I did hear it was Monday the 23rd. Is this correct?

@frostedviolets

No idea but I’ve been quite impressed by Boris as PM so far and I was never a fan, I didn’t vote for him.
I find this post offensive
The80sweregreat · 15/07/2020 19:48

As a labour voter / supporter I'm not keen on Keir Starmer as I feel his ' going through the motions' and I've no idea about his policies ( because of COVID I suppose , but it feels 'wishy washy ' regardless)
The Tories have handled this health crisis in an appalling manner but I doubt that labour would have been any better : maybe brought in a basic credit payment instead of furlough but it might have had the same level of criticism and still been abused. Who knows?
Rishi Sunak is only popular as his giving money away and been good at Quantitative Easing etc , but his voting record isn't great and he can only do this because of COVID!
Politics today really depresses me and the virus has made things worse. Everything can now be blamed on the virus!
It's all so grim.

Amortentia · 15/07/2020 19:50

I've been very impressed with Boris too. He's a bone idle, useless, morally bankrupt numpty. His government will go down in history as having the most incompetent, self serving grifters ever seen. And yet he's still PM, that is impressive.

DominaShantotto · 15/07/2020 19:50

It'll be him trying to flip flop between "I am the new Churchill" and "I'm a bloke down the pub just like all of you"

Waffle about how we're enjoying our new freedoms
Waffle about the social responsibility of trussing faces up in garish fabric with mythical powers
Waffle about his fucking five soundbites or whatever he's pedalling this time
And probably something guaranteed to really piss me off

You'd get more intelligence and leadership from Larry the Cat.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2020 19:51

It’s DC’s next announcement. Boris is his cats paw.

GreyGardens88 · 15/07/2020 19:53

Rishi Sunak is a complete knob, couldn't have been quicker to defend Dominic Cummings. Completely morally bankrupt government.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 15/07/2020 19:53

I agree, the media have been scum

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 15/07/2020 19:54

it is a free country, and a democracy, we are not in china.
we are allowed our opinions @GreyGardens88

*Today 19:45 GoingtotheWinchester

Boris clearly isn't being blamed for the pandemic hmm he's being blamed for his utterly catastrophic handling of it, and his constant lying about the facts. His blaming of care homes and lies about protecting them from the start are staggering in their cruelty. And that's just one example.

100% this. May I add: putting the leisure activities of their core voter above the needs of children and their education. The appalling demands placed on TfL- specifically abolishing free travel for school kids. Ignoring the approaches of every other sensible nation, who had access to the same science and allowing football matches, horse races to continue as normal. Not attending meetings relating to the pandemic back in February.....and so on and so on.
I hold my breath for Keir’s policies....praying he’s really opposition

"I did hear it was Monday the 23rd. Is this correct?" Monday 23rd of what month? The next Monday 23rd is in November 2020. Grin

Carrie, is that you? It's not to late to run.

SmileyClare · 15/07/2020 19:57

I've never been a Tory voter but BJ's not going to resign right now. So let's just get on with the hand we're dealt for now.

It's getting tedious when every thread attempting to discuss easing of lockdown, the introduction of new measures or whatever is pissed all over by variations of "it's a shambles, he's a prick, the country's an embarrassment, Fuck Dominic Cummings haha."

ViperBugloss · 15/07/2020 19:59
@ViperBugloss are you suggesting Boris is responsible for the recession? Or that he could have done something to prevent it? If so please share your recommendations. I’m sure there will be many, many economists interested to hear them.
Oh yes just give me the soap box........

Not acting on advice given to prepare for a pandemic
Messing up on PPE
Cuutting resources to the NHS over the last decade
Should have locked down earlier and harder for shorter but more effective results economy would be up and running quicker
Ignoring early advice to test track and trace - something we are still failing at
Misreporting figures - due to errors in data collection
Clearer communication to give the public confidence
Watch and observe other successful countries are doing
Sort out a reliable track and trace
Not send Care home residents to their death
Not rely on "the good sense of the public" who are not armed with all the facts

All leads to less spending and increases the impact of the recession.
Bored now but there is more just some basic research will help the many many Economists (many of them are agreeing with the above)

Alsohuman · 15/07/2020 20:01

@TheSunIsStillShining

Exactly. This is a bloody island. UK should have closed it's borders in early march, track and trace + mass test. Oh wait, we were late to the party so we could only pre-order tests. Oh wait, our lockdown was a mock of a lockdown, not a real one. They screwed the economy over for nothing really. Proper lockdown = stopping the spread of the virus. But a lockdown where 100thousands can fly into the country without testing and go as they please.... what's the point then to lock down.

They were going for the herd immunity, but because everyone in the world said it was a good idea they pretended that they abandoned it.
Oh wait, no they didn't.
And most of this comes down to having a psycho/sociopath as the unelected leader, because the elected leader is decorating a kid's room, changing diapers and can't be bothered to go to cobra meetings or read research papers.

This. Except I doubt Johnson has ever changed a nappy in his life.

Weddings! A road map as to how and when and in what form they go ahead. The wedding industry is crippled, and couples are struggling.
And when can I get my eyebrows threaded

Quarantine introduced at the end of June lasted how long?

And today the home secretary has admitted that she does not know how many people coming into the UK have coronavirus.
Priti Patel could not say what proportion of the roughly 50,000 travellers passing through the border into Britain every day either using air corridors or going into quarantine are carrying COVID-19.
She said she has asked for the figure, but it is held by another government department.

@ViperBugloss none of those things would have prevented a recession.

The global economy is suffering but yeah, all Boris’s fault.

Which countries do you consider have been successful? New Zealand? Relies massively on tourism so not sure their economy will be flourishing.

The IMF latest outlook actually has the U.K. forecast to decline less than Spain, France and Italy.

As a PP said, different scientists will always have different ideas and theories.
Messing up on PPE
This was terrible I agree
cutting resources to the NHS over the last decade
This isn’t Boris specifically though is it?
Should have locked down earlier and harder for shorter but more effective results economy would be up and running quicker
In hindsight, they were following current scientific advice at the time.
Ignoring early advice to test track and trace - something we are still failing at
Misreporting figures - due to errors in data collection
True, this is bad.
Clearer communication to give the public confidence
True but not helped by the media with their outright lies
Watch and observe other successful countries are doing
Tricky to do that when we were only just starting to see cases and no one knew anything about the virus or how to tackle it and were guessing at how best to sort it.
Sort out a reliable track and trace
True.
Not send Care home residents to their death
True, but, and it’s a horrible, horrible thing to say, but as happened in Italy if your health service can no longer cope you prioritise who is most likely to survive.

Any country that dealt more effectively with the virus will recover faster economically too.

NZ will at least have very high internal demand.

Our poor virus response has compounded the economic damage - UK will be the worst hit in Europe. Government figures released this week show greater damage than we thought.

The government failed on both the virus and the economy - because both required the same fast, decisive action.

That will be all. Thank you.

Noextremes2017 · 15/07/2020 20:51

Someone on here called Sunak ‘seemingly competent’.
Please. Just listen to what he says!! The guy is a very smooth talker and his words add up to absolutely nothing.
His qualifications for running the finances of the country appear to be:
1 He was an Investment Banker - the type that fucked the country over in 2008.
2 He married the daughter of a billionaire so he is obviously attracted to the smell of money.
3 He is a smooth talker so makes up for bumbling, stuttering Johnson.
4 He is photogenic so can acquire the catchy nickname of ‘Dishy Richie’

Has the country really sunk this low????
