Today I was in hospital having at CT for suspected clots on the lungs after having raised d-dimer, thankfully this has been ruled out. The CT scan did however show a lesion(sp?) on my liver. Just feeling a bit scared and anxious.

Hopefully it will be nothing, don't worry xx

picklemewalnuts · 11/07/2020 19:08

Scans see all kinds of stuff, most of it not actually concerning once it's seen by an expert.

AstridAv · 11/07/2020 19:08

Thank you. I have to go back on Tuesday to have further tests so hopefully should know more then. Just brain is in overdrive.

AstridAv · 11/07/2020 19:09

Thank you @picklemewalnuts that is reassuring

I can't promise- but I do know several people who had scans which raised questions that when seen by the specialist for that condition/organ, weren't a problem.

You've got quite a short wait to find out more- try and fill your time with productive, feel good stuff. Save the worry in case you need it for something else later!

AstridAv · 11/07/2020 19:49

Thank you, this is very true. Its only 2 days to wait and yes no point stressing about something I cant change which could very well be nothing worth the worry! I appreciate your words.

I am going to spend the day tomorrow enjoying my babys and having my partner home :)

Cysts and odd 'lumps' are common incidental findings in such scans.

Livers are very good at giving false alarm scares.

Enjoy your day tomorrow. The weather looks like it's going to be fine.

AstridAv · 11/07/2020 20:36

thanks @Gingernaut that's good to know about livers. Ive also learnt today that they grow back if needed to thats handy!

Anyone know why a d-dimer would be raised without having a clot? They didn't check anywhere else but my lungs were clear

OP posts:
Gruffalosgrandma · 11/07/2020 21:27

I was told I had lesions on my liver after a scan. Turned out to be of no consequence. I think it's quite common but once seen they have to
be checked out . All the best.

AstridAv · 11/07/2020 22:01

Thank you! That's so reassuring. I am glad it was nothing.

OP posts:
AstridAv · 12/07/2020 22:07

Just updating mainly for myself I guess. The lesion was picked up in a ct with contrast and given how quickly im to go back to the hospital im so worried that it'll be something bad.

I think no matter how hard we try we always expect the worst, thanks to Dr Google giving us the worst possible scenarios!
And more often than not it's not worse case scenario, just nobody seems to post online they had a lump but it turned out to be nothing after all. It's always the bad stories people post.
Thinking of you. I started getting heart problems and was convinced I was going to have something bad that would require surgery, that would lead to death and worst case scenario.
Turned out to be nothing, but tests and medical talk always feels worrying. Take care!

picklemewalnuts · 14/07/2020 08:12

Good luck today, Astrid!

AstridAv · 14/07/2020 08:15

Thank you so much @picklemewalnuts means alot

AstridAv · 14/07/2020 11:31

OP posts:
ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 14/07/2020 12:08

How did the whole thing come about op, had you been unwell?

DivisionBelles · 14/07/2020 12:12

I feel for you op. I had a hysterectomy recently as I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and a routine X-ray showed a lesion on one of my bones. A repeat X-ray still wasn't conclusive either. I stressed and worried about it for ages and then they decided I needed a CT scan. Cue more worry and anxiety. It turned out to be a totally benign thing which are often found incidentally. It'll probably be nothing so do try not to worry. Easier said than done though I know.

picklemewalnuts · 14/07/2020 12:52

Glad you are getting a thorough going over!

When DF had prostate cancer, they found all sorts on his scan. They were concerned it had spread. Turned out to be old rugby injuries.

AstridAv · 14/07/2020 13:08

@ItsSpittingEverybodyIn yes I've been unwell for a while and lost 2 and half stone since April.
I went to a and e with chest and back pains. They suspected blood clots due to raised d-dimer.

The hospital this morning didn't have me on the system because they messed up. Ive now got to wait until Thursday for the scan to be reviewed by a specialist and ill recieve a phonecall once its been discussed.
Waiting for blood results because they think I have thyroid disease? Who knows.

HollowTalk · 14/07/2020 13:12

That's such a worry for you. I hope everything's okay and that you get good news soon.

turnthebiglightoff · 14/07/2020 13:19

OP could you be pregnant? That raises your d-dimer. Hope you're ok. Thanks

AstridAv · 14/07/2020 13:21

@turnthebiglightoff no they done a test the other day before the CT. Negative
