You probably should have started by explaining your negative experience with essential oils. Because they are marketed as "natural", people assume this means "harmless".

StuffThem · 10/07/2020 13:47

Anybody can have an allergic reaction to EOs, just like anybody can have an allergic reaction to anything else.

Ori37 · 10/07/2020 13:47

Do you have enough to do today?

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 10/07/2020 13:48

@bestsquirrelinthewholehole

At a baby massage class I was told we can use lavender straight onto the skin, no worries. So presumably it's the kind of oils they are using which are safe for direct skin application. Try not to worry.
Undiluted lavender essential oil though? Even tea tree and lavender should never be used like that, except on small areas of skin. For massage, definitely not.
ManCubsMama · 10/07/2020 13:48

oh get a grip OP

PotholeParadise · 10/07/2020 13:48

Is this one of those cases when a manufacturer flannels the truth to sound safer? So they do use carrier oils, but they like to market themselves as 'pure'?

Another example of this is steam cleaners being advertised as 'chemical-free cleaning'. Water is a chemical!

slashlover · 10/07/2020 13:51

Quite

I'm not finding any issues with this product online. So?

OP can you link to any newspaper articles/blogs/posts/anything where a child has been burned by these oils?

Legoandloldolls · 10/07/2020 13:53

Don't use it OP is the simplest solution. I had disposable wipes in my bounty pack. I choose to not use them until baby was older and used cotton wool and water.

Seriously OP think of your blood pressure and the long term effects of thinking things are being forced onto people and they have no free will. Or ask cheeky wipes the question

ginandgingers92 · 10/07/2020 13:54

So maybe just use them for the mucky box; keeps it smelling fresh until they're washed, and leave the clean ones with just water. Simple!

My blood pressure is normal thanks for caring.

Just as you care for my blood pressure I care about babies and I hate to think of any suffering chemical burns when the use is totally unnecessary.

I don't see how a carrier oil would help in this case — it would for massages, but in water it would still just float on the top. Ok, your essential oil is diluted, but not dispersed. You need a surfactant to do that.

Unfortunately there are no carrier oils in their products. Pure essential oils. I think they are using the eco-friendly, natural approach to sell them though.

I bought these for DD2. Totally forgot / didn't realise not to add the essential oils for a newborn (blame baby brain, C Section recovery, lack of sleep), so we used the supplied oils from birth. My baby didn't explode.

When we ran out of the Cheeky Wipes oil, I replenished with lemon oil, and she still didn't explode.

Can I hazard a guess in the nicest possible way, this might be your PFB? Don't use the oils if you don't want to, but I have heard of nobody who has had any problems with these wipes. I thought they were fab. (Though the flannel ones were a million times better than the microfibre ones that went all curly in the dryer.)

userpmfrdh · 10/07/2020 13:58

@MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly

Cheeky wipes are brilliant, but I only used oils for the dirty ones for this reason - I think it's a valid point to raise with them. They do say that you should manually mix the wipes with the water well to distribute the oil though.

I've read that lavender oil has oestrogen-like properties and has been linked with abnormal breast growth in boys - that put me off using it on children in any case.

This is one of the problems. They told me to manually mix them. This is a variable though. There's no way of knowing exactly how much eo goes into one wipe, especially as they are used with water and just floating on top.

I think you're a bit over invested in this OP.

I chose not to use the oils either, but I don't feel it's necessary to demonise the company because other parents make different choices to me.

I haven't purchased cheeky wipes and even if I did, I wouldn't use the oils. My concern is parents using them on newborn babies, 5 drops is a lot but it's easy to add more than recommended (I keep doing this with my diffuser)

Minesril · 10/07/2020 14:02

I've been using them with oil since birth. They're great! One wipe gets the bum clean which would take 4-5 normal wipes. No nappy rash. And it's one less thing we need to remember to buy.

It's dangerous.

My problem is with the oils/ instructions not with the company as a whole.

withgraceinmyheart · 10/07/2020 14:03

I also agree with pp that it sounds like you're a new mum. I don't want to sound patronising, but you do need to accept that other parents will do things you disagree with or even things you think are dangerous.

Other parents will also think that about you.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 10/07/2020 14:05

This reminds me of the many threads stated by one poster about the maxi cosi car seat and their ranting towards the company and insistence that no one ever buy from them. Same level of hysteria from the OP.

Not new at all.

I have no problem with disagreement.

Informed decisions are the best ones.

TatianaBis · 10/07/2020 14:11

Lavender essential oil is one oil you can use neat on the skin. I wouldn’t use it neat for babies, but then the manufacturers aren’t either.

If anyone has experienced burns with lavender oil I’d suggest there was something wrong with the manufacturing, making process or it was adulterated with another essential oil or chemical.

Brieminewine · 10/07/2020 14:12

MN hysteria at its finest.

Won’t someone please think of the children?!
